  1. Well, I did not have any anti-freeze in the motor, straight water. A head cracked from the freeze, also blew out my intake gaskets. Some one told me that they have rarely seen a cracked subaru block.
  2. start more simple than that. Check fuses and stuff, ya know. Might hve blown a fusable link (?)
  3. Basically sounds like the typical "Hi-crappy" carb to me! When I would first fire up my car, I would have to hold the throttle open (for about 1-2minutes) at about 2000RPM to keep it alive, and get it warmed up, then the high idle would keep from there. About the hesitation, mine started doing that... I figured out it was the secondary jet leaking, at idle, and at highway speeds (for some damn unknown reason) and that was even after a rebuild. So you might want to check that. I would suggest to rebuild the carb. (cheapest option compared to a Weber conversion) get it all cleaned up inside (outside too). Also, some "bandaids" to try would be to turn up the idle speed, and mixture...
  4. They are very expensive, high quality though. I guess if you have the money, its worth it. I might have to go a less expensive route myself. I'd love to "build up" my ea81 though
  5. The motor in my Brat froze last month, and cracked a head on an outside water jacket. I'm thinking about splitting the block to see if it is still good or what. But, i'm not sure if it is worth the time/work, if I could just buy a new motor. Any one have ideas/thoughts/experience?
  6. By no means was I judging you. I was just making an off comment/observation; no harm was intended, I'm sorry.
  7. What the ************ ever! Restureant, eh? you know that much bout cars, i'd think you could get a better job than that. anyway.
  8. replace Feul filter(s) and do a tune-up if neccesary (plugs, wires, cap/rotor) start simple. Although, i'm not sure about a cut off switch in case of a wreck. My guess there isn't one.
  9. I dump the hell out of my stock clutch(s) in ALL conditions (mostly 4wd)... sometimes you just gotta ROCK:headbang: ! They might not last as long as a stage 3, but what the hell. Soobs just rock teh noobs!
  10. Dude, get your self an X-Box and the game Rally Sport Challenge 2... fookin' awsome game to get a good idea of how cars handle, not kidding. just remember: Soobs rock the noobs!
  11. Lift it??? leave that pretty thing on the ground... you'll probably just end up trashing it otherwize
  12. Carby freeze, mate??? Don't quite follow. But the thermal air cleaner set-up is overrated; I havn't ran with that for quite some time, everything warms up just fine for me. The Weber doesn't even have a thermal set-up.
  13. I just bought my Weber kit from Top End Performance http://www.topendperformance.com they seemed like cool dudes. Got my stuff shiped right away. I'd just call them.
  14. Oh yeah, thanks alot dude. Hahaha, no need to tell those stories, I have a pretty funny one on that page. I actually pretty much got everything figured out on it. I think I have a few more lines to cap. I deleted the EGR, I don't need emissions where I am. I ended up doing a crazy mod. to a Carter Weber throttle cable bracket. I actually just extended the height of it (I have pictures of it, not sure how to upload them). And for the choke, I had your exact idea, but I ended up just making a whole new wire with ends. thank you very much for your reply, I appreciate it. I'm not new to Subaru (or auto mechanics) but of course I don't know everything. So after all that, I figured out my head cracked from freezing, and possibly my block;and my intake gaskets blew, it sucks. didnt have a chance to tune it in (break it's hymin).
  15. No, hence the frozen motor. I was definitely unprepaired for the cold weather, as I had taken the old carb. off, no coolant, just water in the motor; and no way of circulating coolant. Any shared experiences with frozen blocks would be great.
  16. I've dropped several gas tanks in my short time (none Subaru though) pretty much, just put a piece of plywood on your jack (best would be to attach it securely to the jack plate) that way you can forego renting a few midgets, and still hold your tank up there without stress.
  17. I was in the middle of my Weber conversion when it suddenly dropped below freezing tempitures. I put a lamp in the motor bay to thaw it out, and keep the freeze off of it. I have a huge crack on the outside, in the front of one head. the freeze also blew out my intake gaskets. There was no water in the oil, and everything else seems to visually be ok. I'm just not sure if my block has been cracked on the inside or outside (beyond my visual check) machine shop sugested to split the block and then pressure check it. I'm wondering if anyone knows where these EA81 blocks typicaly crack when they freeze? and any other adivice about the whole cluster************ is appreciated.
  18. Dude, It's a Subaru thing...! My EA81 Brat does quarky things in freezing temps too. Famous Head Truama, inc. qoute for non-soob owners, "It's a Subaru thing, you wouldn't understand..."
  19. Well, the cable is still too short after disconnecting it from the firewall (via a clip). I didn't mention that I had done the Carter carb. to Hi-crappy carb. conversion, which came from an '83 wag. (HAH, and now that to a Weber!). which included a new throttle cable, and peddle(from an '84 Brat) . Can't recall if the peddle was taller, or shorter; but that is the only available cable.
  20. I put a brand new Weber carburator on my '82 Brat GL 1.8L. I'm not really sure how to hook up the electronic choke. I suppose I have to do some cutting and splicing? Also, what do I do with the throttle cable, the one I have seems to be too short? Last thing, what all gets capped(i've deleted most of my emissions junk)?! Pictures would be helpful, but any knowledge or advice will be greatly appreciated.
  21. Thank you for the pictures, do you have any written explaination on the choke, PCV, throttle cable, and vaccum caps? I delelted most of my emissions crap, so half of it I don't need to worry about...although, I'm sure I could delete the rest of it.
