  1. Hey guys, I've never seen one in person but I have seen an old Japanese video that showed an XT driving through the snow with what looked like an OEM-ish roof rack attached. Has anyone seen one? Does it exist? I know Thule / Yakima / etc are options but I'm not just looking for a rack....I really want an OEM rack if it exists. Thanks, Jeff
  2. Thanks for the shout-out, Gary. To the original poster, here's a link to my build thread with some info: http://subaruxt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=14030 To echo what others have said, you have to be very patient if you want to restore/renew. Many people don't know what it is and parts counters staffers are no help. My biggest resource (and time suck) has been salvage yards. I am on car-part.com nonstop looking for parts and begging salvage yards to sell me random widgets. This week, I have a supposedly good A/C condenser on the way, but it took calling five different yards before one would sell one to me in claimed working condition. The XT6 introduces a whole host of other issues, obviously, when it comes to parts-sourcing. I am an OEM fanatic so I have learned to be patient over the years with my BMW builds, sourcing parts from Europe, posting want ads in club magazines, etc., etc. As it is, my suspension still isn't 100% after converting to a custom Ground Control set-up that is still presenting some issues. That's been a six-month "experiment." Likewise, a new dual-core radiator was custom made to the tune of $600. And as mentioned, things like trim and moldings are non-existent. You have to learn how to renew a lot of things you might still be able to buy new with other makes.
  3. Thanks for the insight. More dense questions ahead: so the extended studs will work, but I will need to find the proper lug nuts to work with that thread - is that what you're saying? In terms of suiting the wheels: they are aftermarket OZs. Would there be some measurements required to see what width lug nuts would work with the width of the lug holes? Thanks, Jeff
  4. Thank you. In your opinion, is drilling the hubs a big "ask" of a shop or is it something most mechanics would be comfortable doing? I have a great restoration/race prep shop I work with but I haven't proposed this idea to them yet.
  5. OK. This is all new territory for me, so I apologize for the stupid questions. But - is there any option that does't require drilling out the hubs?
  6. So to be clear, there's no plug-and-play option for extended wheel studs for the XT6? I was under the impression as long as they were M12 x 1.25, I would be in good shape.
  7. Hey guys, I have a set of wheels that I'd love to run but unfortunately, my shop just called and said there's not quite enough thread on the stock studs to run them safely. Is it an option to replace the OEM studs with extended ones, such as the ones that ARP sells? If so, what size / model do I need to look for? I have never swapped out studs before but I am losing my mind trying to find a wheel that works for this car, so I'd prefer not to go back to the drawing board just yet. The wheel I have otherwise fits and looks correct for the era, so I'd like to try and keep them if I can. Thanks for any/all advice. Jeff
  8. That was my exact thought. This is a low-traffic yard, to boot, and the odds of an XT owner walking in looking for those seem slim...hence my reasoning that an old-school owner just grabbed them so they didn't get crushed with the car.
  9. SO, this is random. But there was a clean 1987 Subaru XT Turbo at the Redding Pick 'n Pull in California that my friend sent me pictures of. It had the rare rear window louvers. Unfortunately for me, I didn't see his picture in time and he had already left the yard. He went back today and the louvers are gone. On the off-handed chance a NON-XT old-school Subaru owner snagged them in the interest of preservation, I would pay a healthy price for them immediately. Apologies for the randomness of this post. -Jeff
  10. Nice find with the digidash! Good luck with the new project.
  11. Hey Gary. It would be going in the back of my sedan daily driver. I have the dimensions of the bellhousing so I can measure tonight to see if it will clear my trunk opening. As per being correct, it is being sold by a salvage yard which claims it has documented it as being removed from a six-cylinder XT.
  12. So in other words, if it's a stick and for an XT6, it can only be 4WD.
