  1. sorry 98 out back sport manual tranny I can't think of a single reason for torque bind. All tires are the same size all other parts seem to be in working order....
  2. I might be replacing my rear diff soon After driving on the highway for 10 or so miles the rear tires reluctantly move while I turn a tight corner, And chirp when I turn a circle, I should have not ignored it for so long. Anyways Is there anything in particular I need to look out for or is it going to be a pretty straight forward job , take tires off, take axles out take diff out put back together? And is there a good place to get one the dealer wants 800 bucks for one or 2000 to do the work themselves.....ouch!
  3. Nope every things cool, same size tires all around, I don't even have an "AT oil temp light" But no engine light blinks at start up, E brake seems fine, can set it and release it and coast out the driveway, I'm going to drive it around town today and see if I can pin point anything else, but I guess I'm taking the Fiance Beetle to pick her up at the airport
  4. So I pull into this parking spot tonight and my Impreza slowed to a stop, I thought, Oh crap I have a flat, but there was no flat. So I did my shopping and went home, but every time I slowed and went around a sharp turn the same feeling. It only seems to happen when I turn sharp enough to get into a parking spot or whip a u in the middle of the street,( which I did several time to make sure I was not imagining it) When I turn sharp from about 10 mph the car slows and stops, Straight it seems fine. I drove it 30 miles home after I first noticed it with no brake smell or unusual knocking, could it be the half shafts, tie rods, any ideas.
  5. We thought about that but we didn't have a grease gun, so we thought it would just break, well hind site is 20\20 I suppose.
  6. It took a two days of prying but we got them apart......then the rest was easy.....untill The pilot bearing. It would not budge, So we broke it. then the outer housing wouldn't come out, while I was at work my girlfriends dad and brother pulled the motor and cut the rest of the bearing out with a die grinder. When I got back we put it all back together in a few hours. No more sliping, I also took the pilot bearing and hung it from the rear view mirror too remind me that it can be done......Thanx for the help.
  7. It's a 98 I only pulled 4 bolts\nuts off the thing 2 in the starter and two on the lower part of the motor..... those were a pain, I'm heading out to yank on her again hopefully I can get it done today...
  8. So I was reading the forum and I saw somebody eles was replacing the clutch in their car, I thought Funny I'm trying the same thing tonight.........I went the route of pulling the engine....everthing went fine untill I went to seperate the motor and tranny, and they won't budge from each other. We jacked the motor mounts up outta the cross member and tuged and tuged but nothing....is there a spot to pry the two against each other, should I put a jack under the tranny aswell.....Also I asked the guy if my clutch kit came with the clips for the throw out bearing, he said yes and when i got it no clips, then he told me it was a dealer item. grrrrrrr is there a part store the carries just the clips? Well it looks like Murphy found me again.
  9. Crap I was hoping otherwise..........oh well, Hopefully she'll last till next sat, I only drive 1.5 miles to work daily, then me and my buddy can throw it in, in a day. That is if Murphy doesent show up with his list of laws........God I hate that guy....I called around and the part store down the street has the entire kit for 159.99, I thought it would be around 300.00. So thats a relief .......Thanks for the help but look in the future I'll probably have 2 or 3 problems with getting the thing in.
  10. So I have this weekend all planed out. We leave thurs. night we stay at an old victorian hotel for 2 nights we wine and dine have a great time, explore the older sections of Kansas City. Everything went well. We left Omaha in the middle of a snow storm drove very slow arrived late slept in, got breakfast then hoped in the Subbie to go to the art museum......but wait whats that noise.....scratch scratch......To make a long story short my wheel bearing was making a whole lotta noise, it was almost to loud to speak./.....So we cut the trip short and limped the car back home.........So I bring it to the guys who did my other bearing when it went out, they were rude and the car took three days to fix.....And to top it off I get her back tonight and I got on it a little bit and the clutch sliped a bit, So now I ask this. It only slips when I really get on it in 4th or 5th gear, My friend Dan said there might be an adjustment I can tighten, is there or is this the begining of the clutch going out......fortunetly I have never had this problem with a car, everycar I've had I have replaced the clutch when I had the motor out for one reson or another, so I guess I'm wondering if my 98 obsport has an adjustment or should I just bite the bullet and go buy the new clutch kit?
  11. With winter finally being over I decided to give my car a good bath.....After washing her I noticed all the little scratches and nicks in the clear coat. I talked to a few hot rod guys I know and they said to try Mothers California Gold Wax, I always thought my car looked good after I washed her but Damn this stuff made her look brand new. Also the little scratches were hardly noticable. So I thought I would just pass the info along......BTW my wife kinda got upset because like any gear head I spent 4 or 5 hours washing and waxing the car.....
  12. Procrastination is a terrible drug; I haven’t replaced the rear brakes on my 98 outback sport ever. I bought the rear brakes a few months back and never got around to putting them on. Well now they make noise and I can't get the drums off. Does anyone know a trick or should a take a sledgehammer to them? Thanx for the help Rob
  13. I've had my Outback sport (impreza 2.2L/5sp) for a few years now. My brother had it since new, and niether of us has ever had a major problem with it. Only minor things like 2 sensors going out (knock and speed) and and the garage falling on the front of it,(no real damage to it though) I loved my 86 gl-10 turbo but my Impreza drives a whole lot better. I'd talk the guy down a bit, I got mine for 2,500 with 100,000 miles on it, but I did buy it from a relitive.
  14. Still trying to figure something simular out. After going 100 miles or so in a day my ABS light comes on, and the ABS doent work. ( I tried it on a gravel road on my way home) but I shut off the car turn it back on and no light and working ABS, could this be a sensor also? mmmmmm
  15. Hey, My Buddy just got a 2000 2.5 rs, but on the way home the CE light came on. So from what we can tell the cars previous owner modified the car, but we don't know how. (we can find misc. wires cut, a reset switch and a green factory looking plug under the dash that when pluged in causes the CEL to blink rather than stay on.) The car does have an after market exhaust, but other than that it looks like all other after market parts are replaced with factory stock parts. So does anybody have any ideas. Thanx for the help Rob
