  1. Thanks, I took it to a shop yesterday and it's the exhaust from the rear cat to the rear of the car. Expensive pipes!
  2. I have a '97 OB Legacy Limited MT 2.5l, w/ 200,000 mi. Recently, it's noticeably loud upon start up, while driving and upon acceleration. It sounds like it is coming form the mid front of the car. Also, it seems like the rev I had at start up is significantly lower 1000rpms instead of arcing to 2,500 before coming back down. No codes, runs well...could this be exhaust? Thanks
  3. Thanks for the suggestion. It makes good sense, I'm just getting used to the 2oth century music technology!QUOTE=The Dude]It's not an answer to your question, but have you considered replacing the head unit with one that will work with a MP3 player? Sooner or later, electro-mechanical devices like CD changers ALWAYS break. Buy a nice MP3 ready head unit and then swap it out when you get new car. My MP3 player has more than 40 albums on it. It makes a 6 CD changer look like small potatoes. Plus, you can play podcasts in the car.
  4. I have a '97 OB Legacy Limited 2.5. I had to cut the wiring to the CD changer under the passenger seat to get it out and dislodge the magazine stuck inside. Since it's a high mi. car, I don't want to spend a lot to install a new unit, so my question is-will other changers work with this head unit? It's a Panasonic from 1996 6 CD changer under the passenger seat.
  5. The magazine for my under -the- passenger- seat, 6 CD changer appears to be stuck inside and spinning, despite not having touched it for nearly 2 years. The in dash deck reads an E3 code. Can anyone help with extracting the cartridge and advice on whether or not I should replace this one or trouble shoot the repair? Thanks!
  6. Ah! It's the CD changer under the passenger seat. It appears the magazine is stuck inside. It says E3 code. Does anyone know how to dislodge this magazine? Thanks!
  7. It happened when I put the key in the ignition. It sounds like a radio that is out of tune and at very low volume. When I pull the key out, it is still there, cuts out some and eventually when I start the car, it either goes away or I can't hear it. At some point in the drive, it goes away. It does seem to be coming from inside the cab, maybe the passenger side? It's possible that the speedometer had some hesitation too of that the power was low, but I could be imagining that. I'll do some more observing. Tx.
  8. Hi- I have a '97 OBL MT 2.5 w/ 195,000 mi. I just had the viscous coupling replaced by a transmission shop yesterday and today heard a distinct electrical hum at start up. It's intermittent, eventually goes away, but stays even when I pull the key out. Is there a connection to the having the tranny open and the VC replaced/ All thoughts appreciated.
  9. Thanks, still looking for someone in Madison-a guru, a wizard, whatever that person is called in Subaru lingo!
  10. Sure, I'll take the number, appreciate it. Still looking for someone close to home too!
  11. Hi- I think I'm still looking for a mechanic to work on our '97 Subaru. It needs the cat. converter flange either replaced or clamped at this point, tune up and maintenance on-going. I know a few shops in town but would rather hook up with someone who will keep our car running, (194,000 mi), and well maintained, without having to buy a lot of shiny new parts! Thanks!
  12. That's a great idea, thanks! Right now, don't need anything replaced, but want someone I can take it to with this weird rattle, for example! Maggie
