  1. I was curious if any one has plus sized their tires on their outback I would like to go from a 205/70R15 to something a little taller 205/75/R15 or a little wider and taller 215/75R15 has anyone done this if so were the tolerances close or did you have to do suspension mods to make it work.
  2. I got all the parts at the dealer for doing the front seals including the tbelt for $150 I recommend you get a puller for taking the pulleys off I broke mine when I was trying to pry it off I broke one of the 4 little tabs off which some how is a sensor for each cylinder. it was about $40 dollars to replace. the puller is $15 dollars at napa. replace the cam seals as well. I would not worry about the water pump at such a low mileage and get the o-ring for the oil pump as well as tighten the oil pump housing on the inside of the oil pump no reason to pull it off though. hth matt
  3. I have a 96 outback wagon that has that terrible plague on the wheels where the clear coat peels. This is a big problem in MN where I live or any where else where they use salt in the winter. so any way, here's what I did 1. I taped the wheels off to expose only the clear coated area. I also removed the wheel weights. I did not remove the wheel from the car or the tire from the rim however if youreally wanted to go nuts it would make it easier. I didn't have the time and I did not want to pay for mounting and balancing to take the tires off of the rims 2. then I took paint stripper put that on left it for a few minutes it crackles and eats at the clear coat its pretty cool. 3. after that I started with 80 grit sand paper, to get the rest of the corrosion off, then after I got it all evened out I used 400 grit then 800 grit than 1600 grit then steel wool. 4. after that got the mothers aluminum polish out and hand polished for a few minutes and it looks like new again. It takes about an hour a wheel, I think total time was about 5 hours. You can repaint the clear coat on the wheel, so you won't have to polish frequently. I prefer to polish once a month over the crappy clear coat.
  4. because we are stubborn, bull headed and resistant to change... and you forget stupid.
  5. a lightweight pulley is a good mod that does not put extra wear and tear on things it also can give you better gas mileage when you don't drive hard with it. here is a spot to get one. http://tpi.mrjosh43.com/home.html
  6. H4 is the part number for your low and high beams. H5 is the part number for your fog lights.
  7. Dent wizard is the best. the guys who use suction can't do what dent wizard does they worked magic on two of my vehicles.
  8. I would like to know how you get 24/30 miles to the gallon. I drive like a little old lady on a tank of gas and get 23 I drive like I normally do and get almost 22 on a couple of long trips I have gotten 24.5 how do you get that kind of mileage. what is with the bulbs in our dashes half of mine went out in the last month I expect the other half is coming soon.
  9. My thought when posting this message was actually see why people use this function I fully understood what it did as for others who have posted, who did not understand what this one button does I could see, why this could happen especially when someone accidentally bumps it and then can't figure out why there parking lights won't turn off. Two of the posters who had it happen to it was not there daily driver it was essentially there wifes car. I just wanted to know what the purpose, of this button would be. I see now that almost every one who posted that uses them is not from the US, most people from the US that posted seemed like they have no reason to use this function. I can see in a parking situation as well on a narrow road at night using this function that makes sense
  10. tonneau covers= luggage cover. They are the same thing. Just take it to your subaru dealer they will fix or replace it for free. thats why you lease in 3 year intervals the only thing you have to cover is regular maintance. (oil changes, brakes, tires, stuff like that)
  11. I love my outback. Yesterday I hauled a 13 cubic ft. upright freezer in the back of the wagon. I put the seats down and I bungee corded the hatch closed. If it would have been 6in shorter I could have closed the hatch. only about a half inch of clearance through the hatch entrance but once it came through, there was lots of room. I wanted to take pics but camera was unavailable yesterday. What has anyone else hauled In the subie that seemed more than it could handle? whats the most people to ever fit in one? (like the old VW bug)
  12. I have wondering this for a while and kept forgetting to ask, I know what the switch on the steering column does it turns on the parking lights so they are always on even when you shut the car off. When I first Got my car I thought they were for the hazards until I realized the hazards are on the dash. But in what situation would you use this swich? why not just turn your lights to the parking light feature at least then you would not leave your lights on.
  13. I installed a set on my outback, They are gorgeous however they are a pain in the rear end to install, since you have to pull the hands off of your guages they are very difficult to get back in the right spot took me 3hours to get it right I also painted the hands since mine were white before. I love the look and I am very happy I did it but it does take some patience. When you push the hands back on make sure they move freely if the drag on the face they lag a little I had to go back in and adjust my tack and temp guage. HTH
