  1. Thanks guys... Been a little busy so I haven't been able to work on her much. Hopefully tonight though! Here's a link to my photo album of the new Wagon... http://s272.photobucket.com/albums/jj168/SWMO82BRAT/88%20Wagon%20in%20Ava/ Thanks to all of you for your help on this, really appreciate the collective minds!!
  2. If this works out I'll be bringing as many as I can back with me around the 8th of April. Should cut down on shipping costs a fair amount!!
  3. Put me down for a pair then dude!! :-) Better get him something better than VB or XXXX though, shoot for a slab of Boag's or some Crownies!!
  4. Depends on where you're standing in reference to the engine Cougar... standing at the fender and standing in front of the engine will rotate things by 90*
  5. Rampant frustration levels now!! All spark plugs out, fuses for fuel etc. pulled, coil disconnected, start compression test. Crank her over a time or two and then NOTHING. The battery that was in the wagon when I bought it is now shot... showing 12v on the DMM but not enough current to run a headlamp, my charger shows a fault with the battery also :-\ Not to worry, ditched that battery and loaded up the one that came in my 88 GL-10T wagon a while ago... SAME FREAKING THING!!
  6. Again... I HATE you people up in the PNW!! I saw my first Hatch in SWMO on the weekend... only thing holding the front half to the back half was the roof, passenger rocker panel and the fuel lines down the driver's side... whole floor rusted out
  7. I will double check that, I'm pretty sure that's how it is right now but if not then that would be my problem right there!! I'm not 100% that I've done the 2nd 360* rotation after installing the belt. Thanks Miles!!
  8. Neither... Engine's been in the vehicle the whole time and I don't think the TB has been removed at all. I'll check the fuel line routing though
  9. Good point! Although something else I thought of was that the pop through the intake into the airbox could have been ignited by the hotwire MAF
  10. I have not as yet checked to see that the coil is kicking, the PO said he'd shocked himself with it so that was good enough for me. I'm going to check for myself tonight though! I'd thought that maybe he had the disty 180* out but having checked and double checked that I'm down to thinking it's a spark or fuel issue
  11. Thanks Skip I did try to run the timing light when we first got her home, Mykingcrab was cranking but there wasn't enough juice out of the battery to fire the Xenon light:-\ I've got her charging right now so hopefully I'll be able to get somewhere with it tonight. I'll grab a compression tester on the way home, left mine in Australia when I moved (technically it was my old man's)
  12. Per the USRM instructions, driver's cam mark straight up, rotate crank so the middle of the 3 ||| lines on the flywheel align with the pointer Yes I do. Won't do me a whole lot of good unless it's running. Although I could get the wifey to crank it over while I check the timing (green plugs connected of course)
  13. I might be able to work up a limited run of polished stainless steel ones if there was enough interest
  14. OK, she arrived home on Saturday after a brief visit to the pressure wash bay at the local car wash. Cleaned up pretty darn good!! I checked and re-did the timing belts, re-installed the valve cover that the PO had removed to "check if the valves got bent" and also checked the plug wires. Still no firing even with a shot of starter fluid. She did backfire out the intake once which ignited the starter fluid that had oversprayed on the inside of the air cleaner housing so that was fun for a minute or two while I put that out!! I'm going to put some fresh gas in her tonight as well as double checking that the distributor is in correctly. I'm 99% certain that the disty is in the right orientation because with the passenger side cam at 10:30 (45* CCW from straight up) the rotor is pointing at the #1 plug connection. I know that they swapped distys out of another Subaru that they had laying around... The fuel pump cycles on and off when the key is on, If all of that checks out then I'm going to run the gamut of fuel filter, compression test, etc. as well as checking for any codes, there was a piece of black tape over the CEL so I suspect I'll find SOMETHING in there :-\ (1988 EA82 wagon, SPFI, 5spd Pushbutton)
  15. Dude, let me know if you source any, I'm going to be in Melbourne for 2 weeks at the end of march and then returning to Missouri after that. More than happy to cram some into my luggage on the return trip!! Would help cut down on shipping them internationally.
  16. Machine gun headlights and in dash martini bar (British 007 Edition) I'm thinking most likely rear demister and wiper buttons though also... been a LONG time since I drove the Brumby in OZ though so I can't be 100% certain
  17. There's one for sale near me, seller's asking $4500, and there's a bill in the MO state house to try and legalize the use of minitrucks on all roads in Missouri except interstates
  18. Thanks Skip! I'm planning on checking all of that out before I get into the t-belts. first point of checking is the plug wires and disty. Then I'm going to check the cam marks and the marks on the flywheel before pulling the belts. I'm 99% certain that because he was working off the Chilton's he didn't know about the full rotation of the crank before installing the second belt.
  19. NO... I sure as hell won't! Yeah, I'll give ya a call if he's going to be able to make it, otherwise we'll shoot for 8:30
  20. We're meeting at Baldy's Cafe in Seymour, MO this Saturday (1-26-08) around 8:30am or so, eating breakfast and then going to pick up my new 1988 GL wagon Open to all interested parties!! Baldy's Cafe 1050 E Clinton Ave Seymour, MO 65746 (417) 935-9190
  21. Breakfast at 8:30 work for your crew?? Might have to make it 9:00 if hyrysc and his clan come along cos they've got a bit longer drive to get there http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=695692#post695692
  22. She's coming home on Saturday morning... if you feel like making a family trip out to Baldy's Cafe in Seymour for breakfast we'll be meeting there before mykingcrab and I head out to get her! If I'm able to get to the replacement belts on my wife's Trooper Saturday then I'll be getting onto the timing belts after that... Shooting for a safety inspection on Monday
