  1. There's been some concept stuff kicked around in the chat of logos... I'll take the liberty of posting one of them if TSJ doesn't mind...
  2. wire the choke open and try running it like that... Mine looked to be opening OK but turned out it actually wasnt...
  3. I'd be thinking both... Definately online in an effort to develop more work on the 4-lug subies in terms of mods, swaps, etc. and offline in the form of local chapters for meets etc...
  4. Done that too... You definately notice the load and the bed IS short but mine has proved quite capable. I certainly wouldn't attempt it in anything but ideal weather conditions. Wouldn't want to try to haul stuff in the wet or on icy roads
  5. I'm planning on getting onto that this weekend... Doing a steering rack replacement on a 95 Impreza and then if I've got some time I'll get the Brat on jack stands and goof around with that for a while
  6. I'm planning on it! I was walking through the shop @ work yesterday and our shear/brake operator was getting prepped to brake my new stainless rocker skins. I'm going to take measurements and detail out in CAD a skin for the front subframe. Will probably get that cut and bent out of carbon steel, weld it up, paint it with POR 15 and then weld it in place over the existing to beef things up a lot :brow: I'm a little scared about what I'll find when I strip the interior in a couple of weeks but it's about time I did that.
  7. I've got a 1982, stock 4spd single range trans, stock 4cyl motor with 200,000+ miles on it. I drive her to and from work 5 days a week plus whatever running I do on the weekends. This equates to about 330 - 350 miles a week, or 18000 miles a year. Averaging about 26 - 28 mpg, 80% highway Up hills? No problem if you know how to drive it efficiently. It WILL lose steam if you're not at the right spot throttle wise. Hauling? I've had 28 LARGE concrete masonary blocks in the back, wasn't on the bumpstops, she was pretty lethargic up hills and the steering was a bit lighter than I'm used to but she did it just fine. Full EJ22 in the bed, no probs... EA81 and 4spd S/R trans, also no probs... FULL load of firewood, again, sluggish up hill, steering light, but she still chugged along... As previously mentioned, rust is the big killer... Rocker panels, front subframe, and the wheel wells in the bed are the main places to look. Check out ettev's thread here (http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=92751) for some pics of what CAN happen... Maintenance wise I've only had a few things go south on me: 1. wiring issues... This was due to the previous owner botching things up REALLY badly 2. Automatic choke failed on the Hitachi carb... No biggie, it's now wired open, takes a little coercion to get it started on a cold morning but it still starts EVERY day. 3. passenger axle clicking occasionally
  8. Awesome pics! Definately proof of what you can do even with limited "garage" space and some ingenuity!! Has both inspired AND scared me for tearing into my Brat... Worried about what I may find!
  9. How big of an issue would running an X brace under the car be if you needed to yank the transmission later? Not having pulled a trans out of these cars myself I'm clueless.
  10. I'm running 205/60/14's on my stocker Brat... No rubbing issues etc. at all.
  11. I'm rolling Nankang 205/60/14's on my Brat and they're freaking awesome!! They're available in a 13" also I believe
  12. Hey man, Shoot me a PM and we'll talk... I've got access to waterjets etc. here at work and can probably come up with something that'll work for ya at a cut rate price!
  13. Worth noting that if ya crank up the perch on the front's it'll throw your camber out a bit. Incidentally, Mykingcrab and I over here in Missouri, USA are both running P Plates on our Subies just for fun... He's got a lifted RX sedan and I'm running a stock Brat/Brumby...
  14. Ign timing was OK... Just that slipped belt. I'm fixin to install my 5 tone air-horn into it tonight and then I'm hangin' out with Bo and Luke...
  15. Mykingcrab's out of town at the moment so I stepped in as his proxy wrench... I got the RX over to my place yesterday to survey the situation. Correct on all accounts. DS belt was off a tooth so I re-did BOTH belts just to make certain. On this vehicle, due to the amount of lift, the marks are pretty easy to see if you're laying under the car looking up. The alternator blocks the view from on top which is annoying as heck though! She's running great now.
  16. so that leaves 135 un-accounted for... I know Mellow Yellow has one in his Brat so we're down to 134
  17. I've got one retrofit into my '82 Dl Brat, and 3 others in my garage... so I guess that means that after McBrat, GD, and Myself there's only 139 left out there!
  18. I took my '82 Brat in to get new tires on it the other day and it turns out that the front frame rails are in pretty bad shape... Needing suggestions for what my options are for reinforcing them. I'm thinking of removing as much rust as I can and welding some angle steel in there along each side of the existing rail. I'll probably have to cut some angles into it to get it to wrap around the fire wall etc. but I think this is my best option. Anyone have any other suggestions for fixing this?
  19. Try living in Missouri! Just cos it's better than Kansas and more temperate than Maine
  20. White Since they're so uncommon around here (I know of 2 other Brats, a yellow '82 that belongs to "MellowYellow" here on the forum, and a 1st Gen that belongs to a guy out east of Seymour) You're pretty safe in assuming that ANY Brat around town is someone on here!
  21. Lots of guys are running blow through setups on sandrails without any problems... I'd suggest running a google search to find out about blow through and see if that will work for you. Otherwise, if you're mad keen on sticking a turbo on your vehicle then lets find you an MPFI intake manifold over here in the US where they're more common and ship it over to Israel...
