  1. If the rings were gummed up, would'nt that be a continuous issue? Like i said, i have not been able to duplicate issue. Thanks for the reply.
  2. I am in the process of purchasing an 88 gl 4wd 5spd. The 1st compression ck with the engine cold on the ea-82 engine showed 150 lbs in 3 cyls and 50 lbs in 1 cyl. The next ck showed 25 lbs and the next 0 lbs. Started the car, it ran on 3 cyls for a minute or so then smoothed out as it warmed up. Checked the compression while the engine was at operating temp. Compression read 150 lbs. I would think a sticking lifter is the culprit as it ticks at times when started. Have not been able to duplicate the issue after driving for a couple of days. Does anyone have anything else to add. Am I going in the right direction to drain the oil and fill with ATF and run for a minute or so to loosen any sticking lifters? Any feedback on this. Thanks in advance.
  3. Hey out there, i'm considering the purchase of a 88 4wd gl wagon with 197k miles. Seems to be in decent shape. Runs ok. Does this vehicle have rear disc brakes and if not will a 87 gl10 interchange? Is there anything to be aware of before i purchase this vehicle. I can obtain it for 700.00. Thanks for any feedback.
  4. I,m stunned by the quick and descriptive responses. You folks rock. The water blowing from the exhaust is definitely coolant, green color. I'm in the Portland area, so any help on parts would be a plus. I will have to obtain a pressure tester and perform the test with the cardboard between the head and exhaust. This vehicle has been overheated and repaired twice before i received it. Has an overheating issue usually when climbing hills such as heading west out of the tunnel on 26. I believe the radiator could use a update. Anywhere locally to buy a larger rad? Thanks for the info to all.
  5. I have an 87 GL10 turbo that has developed a coolant leak. I have been under the car and observed coolant blowing out of the exhaust pipe. Seems to be worse when cold. Can the intake manifold have a coolant leak and where would it leak. 'Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I love the car and would like to keep it in tiptop shape.
