  1. Hello, I am looking at a 1997 Outlook 2.5i that needs the motor replaced. I am looking for a project to do with my 2 boys. I want to put in a turbo charged engine from a WRX. I have not seen information about this. is it possible? is there more to it than dropping in the engine and connecting the tranny? is there electrical systems that need to be changed? If there are other posts that answer this question, please guide me to them. Thanks, Scott
  2. It is an Outback manual tranny with about 170,000 miles on it (I replaced the speedo head and lost some mileage in the process). The mechanic is not sure if the compression problem is in the valves/heads or the rings. I would love to do it for less than a new engine. I would love to stay with a 2.5 engine, I like the little more power. Thanks for the suggestions.
  3. I have been having a rough idle and the CEL was on with codes P0302 & p0304. I took it to a mechanic and he found that I had put in the "worst" spark plugs when I traded them out and that the spark was tracking to the nearest ground through the wires. So that made it run a little better, but he kept getting weird readings, more research done and cylinder 4 is showing 75 PSI and the other 3 are showing 150 PSI. The head-gaskets were changed 4/5 years ago and nothing is leaking. The mechanic recommended a new engine to fix the compression problem. What I need is a recommendation on a supplier of good quality low mileage engines and What engine can I put in the '99? I do NOT want another EJ25. Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
  4. It is a 99 OBW with about 124000 miles on it. The code is the #4 cylinder misfire (p0304, i think). I have changed the plugs and wires. Still get the same code. I replaced the fuel filter, no change. The thing that I notice is that the idle speed is 250 rpm and rough at lights. After the CEL is cleared I can be driving and it will turn on again at start up or at speed, no change in performance or acceleration. Any suggestions will help.
  5. I need some suggestions on a reputable Subaru mechanic to troubleshoot my CLE problem. I have done some stuff, but it still comes back on and then goes off for a week and then back on. I am located in Northern Utah. Salt Lake City north would work best for me. Thanks for any suggestions.
  6. Is there a good place online to purchase the plugs and wires, or should I go to the local dealer?
  7. My CEL will turn off and then at about 70mph it will come on again. There is no noticible change in how the car is running at speed, but the idle is rough at stop lights. I have not changed anything, just been trying to notice the variables.
  8. After market wires from Autozone and the non-platinum plugs. about 120K on the engine. Could it be a fuel filter issue?
  9. I have a 99 OBW with the 2.5 liter engine This error is that Cylinder #4 is misfiring. I have changed the plugs and wires. I have run some injector clearer through the engine. I have noticed that idle speed is about 250-300 and not that smooth. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  10. I have a 99 outback wagon with the am/fm/cassette/CD stereo installed. The light bulbs behind the station buttons have burned out. Has anybody changed these and do you know where I can get replacement bulbs? Any help would be appreciated.
  11. The head that is for Legacy EXCEPT Outback is part number 85020AC290. The Outback speedometer head is number 85020AC330.
  12. I finally got it fixed. I found out that there are 2 speedo heads available for the 99s. It is determined by VIN number what one is needed. I was sent the wrong one twice and a call to the local dealer helped me direct the internet seller. All fixed.
  13. Walker's Renton Subaru in WA state. They have both been in original Sub boxes and don't show any marks like they were previously used. Part # 85020AC290
  14. So is it the screws that give the power to the speedo head? after I installed the new one and it didn't run the company sent me another new one and that one does not work either. What do you reccomend cleaning the screws with?
  15. My speedo on a 1999 Outback started working inconsistently. I had the speed sensor changed while other work was being done. It still did not work all of the time, but the cruise control did work. I purchased a speedo head online and installed it last night. I went for a little drive to test and it did not work at all, not even a flutter while driving. Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated.
