  1. I had the timing set to +10 before it went ca-clunk. And I was also planing on two tone-ing the paint after finishing the body work, along with a 3" lift You're going to really enjoy her
  2. Hey all. This is the previous owner. This is the first time I get internet access since the incident... Brent, since it was pretty loud yesterday when we were talking I'll try to clarify some stuff. I'm guessing that the gas was taken out of it, everything was there when I left it. And I think your initial problem when trying to start the car was that you didn't time the motor before putting the distributor in. Because there was no way of telling where the internals were at that point; the rotor was taken off and the dist. removed... Also, I believe I developed and exhaust leak on my way across the country... nothing welding can't fix and my average MPG's the previous 3 days on the highway before breaking down was 23, @ 60-70 mph. and the temp gauge never went much above the half way mark as long as I've owned it. And I checked my notes, it won't need an oil change until 151,188. I think I told you something completely different. I have a front brush guard for the car too. The mount is already on the car, the guard would just slide on and get bolted to it. I also have two brand new front struts. I think that’s about it, if you or any one is interested. She’s a little rusty as you’ll see. But a couple of months ago she got new rockers complete with reinforcement bars/mini rock slider type of things. I am super bummed out about my horrible loss. It was not an easy decision to leave the car in some ************ty Illinois town, but the weight of getting to my destination with my driving partner in a reasonable time, outweighed the week of loss time waiting for the new distributor and being pissed and bored as hell, then having to travel to Utah solo. But now I have to deal with no car, and no money to find a replacement… But I am happy to know that it won’t get crushed. It broke my heart to know I stranded a perfectly find automobile, but I had to do what I had to do… I’m going to stop blabbering now I just thought I’d give some info and a little insight from my end. Brent, if you have any questions you know how to reach me. Thank you all for trying to help me out during that hard time, makes me even more proud to wear my USMB shirt!
  3. very good to hear. Thanks again everybody. looks like another one was saved!
  4. well all it needs is the distributor. but he can't get one till thursday, but because of time he can't wait around for it. So he hopped in with his friend and left the car. Car is currently located in minooka, illinois. It has a bunch of sweet goodies on it. so if your interested in getting some parts or want the whole thing (all it needs is a distributor) contact my brother and he can give you contact to the shop that has it now. C and R auto care? maybe? well it seems like a waste to leave a perfectly good car, but this way the best route to go for my bro. Thanks guys. Especially bratman18! much appreciated!
  5. well just got done talking to my brother and he re checked the dist and popped it off and he thinks it is toast. so you were right. But now he needs prob needs to bring it to a shop since the engine is so out of time now, right? cause he wont just be able to put on a new dist? or is there another way to do this?
  6. hey guys, i was on my way to utah, from maine, and car died. i can get my car towed from AAA 200 miles or so? 7. yea i wish i could get dome more people in on this. but thanks for your help it is very much appreciated!
  8. alright i just called him up, and told him that bit of info. he said he already checked all the wires and still nothing. but good to know that new info. that helps. thanks. Is there anything else that could make the engine all of a sudden stop working?
  9. really no timing belt or chain? that don't seem right. well i'm not very familiar with the older subaru engines. but anybody from the Illinois area?
  10. well i am posting this up for my brother. It is a 1983 Subaru GL. he told me he thinks maybe the timing chain went. He is not exactly sure. it went clunka clunk and died. and won't start back up.
  11. hey guys, i was on my way to utah, from maine, and car died. i can get my car towed from AAA 200 miles or so? I am in minooka currently on rt. 80. I think maybe the timing chain broke? not sure though. anyone out there that could lend a hand and garage to help figure out whats wrong and get me back on the road. much appreciated. Give me a call if your near by, 207-577-0996. Thanks, Jim
  12. Yup, same senario. I'll say your right and not worry about it
  13. Thanks for the quick response! I have checked the fluid, and it read "full". I'm guessing that we are thinking of the same thing. It was the dipstick on the tranny. And I can't imagine the rear noise being a bearing, because I don't have to be moving to hear it. I actually only hear it when I'm sitting still, like parking it for instance. When I let off the break pedal, it make that funky noise, and the car isn't moving at all (e-brake is up).
