  1. in closure, it was just the clutch disc which was worn down to the rivets.
  2. Its made a slight 2 second chattering sound upon ignition for the past year- Probably a loose spring on the disc and it finally gave up the ghost? I think youre right though, saw bits of disc once i pulled the starter out and inspected it. An exedy kit is in the mail, I'll report back when i get it seperated.
  3. All the axles feel as they should. no play outside of normal tolerances, boots intact and a solid connection to the diff stubs and hubs
  4. Im certain its going into gears- with the car in the air, the wheels *very* slowly move forward in 1st and backwards in Reverse. The car rolls IN gear with the e-brake off.
  5. 99 Legacy Brighton PhaseII EJ22 5 MT AWD I need some help diagnosing an issue that is perplexing- Subie starts fine- when i depress the clutch pedal (it feels normal) put it into gear, nothing happens. Nothing at all. I am able to shift through all gears with no sign of engagement. I have burnt a clutch out on an older GL, and was able to use the starter to move the car- Which leads me to believe that it may be something else wrong here- Any suggestions on what i can do to diagnose the issue and get this daily driver back on the road?
  6. i'd guess that its the cable itself. either get a new one, or lube the cable you currently have.
  7. ^^ i got to check out littlejack97's BRAT yesterday. he's got some great mods in mind, and a clean chassis to work with here's my current DD:
  8. No ECU in this car, it's running a Weber 32/36, although good point if it was FI The distributor shaft indeed turns while cranking. The coil leads could be potentially hooked up wrong, as its easy enough to fudge. BW from body = 12v IG. = POS BW from Disty = POS Noise Condenser= POS Yellow from disty = NEG Yellow from body = Tach signal wire = NEG Correct?
  9. I'm not able to verify voltage that at this moment as the Brat is 20 miles away. I was under the impression that the pickup coil is integral to the ignition module. This is a Hitachi disty, just to be clear.
  10. So I went and looked at mossgreens brat, sure I could sort it out having had this issue before. We installed a new (JY) ignition module, New coil, replaced all fusible links, verified grounds (coil bracket, etc.) Still no spark. What's a simple method of assuring the module is no good, as I'm finding it hard to believe we can't get a spark. Thanks, Pete
  11. The mesh/screen im speaking of must only be in California specific cats, as i've seen this screen in the two that i've gutted. It added a definite element of "fun" to the process. Stock system, mayyyyybe. But what fun is a stock exhaust system when you live in the sticks? My butt-dyno and ears beg to argue this one.
  12. This is false. The audible difference is incredible! Of course it all depends on what you've got downstream. And naturally, an unrestricted flow will always enhance performance, whether intake or exhaust. Listening to this advice is a sure fire way to clog your exhaust. What about the mesh screen that surrounds the honeycomb? I tried this, and ended up having to cut the pipe directly behind the cat, and pull said screen apart with pliers in order to get all the chunks out. They dont just dump out... +1
  13. Seeing is believing. It is legitimate. No photoshop, no bullswag.
  14. I sold my awesome daily driver brat to buy a wagon with a blown engine and 391k miles (and fill my pockets with the moneys leftover). The pretty gal who owned it before me ran it out of oil... but somebody prior to her really took awesome care of this wagon, and i will continue to do so. Dropped in a 90k mile hydro-lifter EA81 and new exhaust gaskets and she ran fair. Did a "Gloyale quicky rebuild" to the Hitachi and now she runs awesome. So lets see... how about some stats: Sunroof, power steering, power windows, A/C delete, impreza alternator swap, slant console with USB pioneer deck, amp, sub etc. EA82 5 speed D/R , rear disc brakes, 14" peugeot alloys, 3.9 LSD converted Enjoy some pr0nz : Cheers y'all
  15. Trippin out Nicely done dude, especially the key loss spoob, i just remembered it was only the drivers side i changed, so you'll be able to get the ignition switch key code from the passenger side! My phone's toast, hence the non-replied texts. USMB FTW . again. (In the past, I've been able to just break the lock without ill effect) ((First 3 subies had no keys))
  16. Hey , you're in my area. I've got a modest collection of EA81 keys we could try in your lock tumblr. I've also got a couple tilt steering columns... (@ruparts an 86 Brat will definitely have a tilt column) This isnt my old light blue brat is it ?? IF so, I only replaced the door lock cylinders.
  17. The PCV breather routing you have is incorrect. Just hook up all three (PCV, and both Valve cover vents) to the hole in the base of the Weber filter. You also have NO fuel return line coming from the carburetor. Remove the single brass fuel fitting from the weber, and replace it with the stock Hitachi fitting. (which has provisions for a return line) Connect the return line to the main shaft of the The "Y" with the vacuum cap on it. The curved side of the "Y" is proper.
  18. It was the multi-switch behind the steering wheel on the column. Replaced with a used unit and all is well. Thank you!
  19. It was the multi-switch on the column, as suggested. Thanks guys!
  20. Thanks Gloyale and 81EA81. Thats what i was leaning towards. i took the switch off of the column and cleaned it up. No dice. Ive got a few lying around, i'll report back.
  21. i just got my Felpro MS91075 gaskets. Just wanted to confirm that they are junk. The paper was delaminating right out of the package. Had to torque way past specs to get a seal. While they are thick, i dont see how anyone could say they're comparable or superior to Subaru gaskets.
  22. 1983 GL Wagon 4WD Low beams work fine. When i pull back on the stalk switch, all 4 lights illuminate as they should. When i push forward, turning the high beams "on" - all 4 lights shut off. Any hunches as to whats going on here? Searched to no avail. Thanks!
  23. That headlight setup looks interesting, for sure! Not much rust at all by the looks of it, but who knows what the underside holds (or doesnt)
