  1. Funny, I was looking @ the rear axle in Toyota Tercell 4WD wagon yesterday, it's on a 4 link w/coils, nice width, nice desine, but it's a small 4 lug patern I would like to go with a 6 lug then I can just do the 6 lug conversion on the front and still have maching lugs all around
  2. still undecided, leaf springs would be a slam dunk but a 3 link with a wish-bone upper would up the "cool factor" alot. I need to take some mesurments and see if and how I could fit the upper wish-bone in there.
  3. OK, OK, I'm gona let the cat out of the bag on this one and just see what hapens. (but please, I know ALL the reasons not to allready) I'm gona put a solid axle in the back of my off-road wagon I am considering useing the rear axle out of the '82 Datsun PU that I got my TC from, but.... I would like to find an axle made by Hitachi or FHI just for the sake of keeping more of the drive train in the Subaru fam. I don't know, is Hitachi under the FHI banner? Or are they a seperate CO.? Anyhow, if any one has looked into this before and has some good ideas just let me know
  4. 1st off, I would have a few words with the wrench for not telling U / finding the head G. problem 1st! (as in BEFORE he started up the engine) 2nd, I think it's a mater of how much do U like this car. A head gas. is not the end of the world in terms of fixing it, but is the car worth the repair bill (to U that is) If it wer me, I'd fix it, no 2 ways about it
  5. Any one have any links to info. on other trucks made by FHI? (other than the Subaru Brat) Also, any one know if our rear difs (R160) are made by Hitachi?
  6. Still to soon after the new baby for me to be gone all night I don't know if I could go 24hrs without seeing my baby girl
  7. My plan is to chuck up the hubs in the lathe and use it to scribe a mark through the center of the holes that are there. Then all I have to do is bolt it to a 6 lug wheel and I have the center of my marks in 1 direction allready all I will need to do is center punch the holes in line with the the holes in the wheel. After I drill them I think I will weld arond them and turn it flat agen in the lathe.
  8. I have a sand blaster, and I hate it It's the little cheep one from Harbor Freight, and it works good, but the MESS!!! I use a face sheeld when I use it, or U get sand in EVERY part of your body! And the sand gets EVERY WHERE within a 10' area If I had it to do agan I would just buy the bigest blasting cabnet I could aford. If need be, U can allwase take the gun out of the box and use it on it's oun for bigger projects. I never use mine now because I need a cabenet and I never have the time to make one :-\
  9. As it turns out, I DON'T have all the kids next weekend. So I just might make it out Just post here and let us all know if it will be Sat. or Sun.
  10. Yes, but that's for the R160, U might be able to get it for the LSD that they can make for the FRONT DIF. It's hard to say, depends on how stout they think our front difs are to begin with.
  11. OK, I just went out and looked @ my car (86DL wagon) and the hill holder is plumbed INTO the front port that is pointing @ the ground on the master. Hope that helps
  12. A friend at work has one in the front of his Civic, so we jacked up one side with floor jack and he put it in gear and tried to drive(with only 1 wheel on the ground) At 1st nothing, but then, with a little brake modulation it started to hook-up. It toolk a little brake work, but we got it to drive around on 1 wheel= good for off road U can order a stifer spring set ("green spring set" I think) that should make it even better for off road use.
  13. That depends, is this an off road project, or a driver? If it's a driver I would go with the PB tranny, if it's an off road rig then I would go with the DR tranny ALLTHEWAY! Wheelin' is no fun without low range
  14. I'm NOT an expert @ carbs, but do have YEARS AND YEARS of ex. with them on and off road It sounds to me like U have somthing that made it into your float bowl and is geting sloshed into 1 of your jets, or your ac. pump(and into the squrter) from time to time. Then when it sits long enough it floats back out into the bowl. If that's what it is U would be looking for somthing like a fragment from one of the seals, tiny tiny rock ect. Just my $.02
  15. Part of my "Day Job" is driving Hysters, just for info, U sit on the engine cover on a Hyster. They are heavy! They have a pair of little (about 8" long cup to cup) struts to hold the engine cover up. I just got a set yesterday with the ball mounts they use. I will try them out as soon as I get a chance and let U all know how they work for me. If they work I will post the P# and Mfg. for them so any one can get 'em
  16. Yeah, me too, I got all the kids this weekend. Plus I have to do some work in the back room (going to start the re-model on Monday) so I'm all tied up this weekend I hear ya on the wheelin'!!!! I haven't been out since we all went to the ponds I'm startin' to go through withdawels Next weekend?? Any one? (if I start to plan on it now I might make it )
  17. R160 stubs, good CV boot kits (with good clamps), NGK "gapless" plugs, aftermarket open element air filters for our stock carbs, window rubber for the EA81's, hi-flow intakes, camber adjustment kits (for the front) and a good cluch kit for the 5spd 4WD for under $150. (I know, I'm just dreaming on that last one)
  18. Not a bad idea at all. How did U get enough threds in the shock body to keep the screw tight? Did U tap them, or are they sheetmetal screws?
  19. I can build ya somthing like that PM me or shoot me an E-mail if U want.
  20. I make them with stock mounts, and rain gutter mounts, and they are 3X stronger if it is a rain gutter clamp! The stock mounting points hold up for a while, but then the stock mounts start to pull out of the roof With the gutter clamps they are solid as a ROCK!
  21. I'm NOT one for big lifts and to big of tires, but DAMN!!! That thing looks GREAT:headbang: :headbang: :headbang: How much clearance under the front dif?
  22. Boat part suplyers hve LOTS of diferent sizes and load cap. struts for cheep;) And U can get them as long or short as U want.
  23. It's eazy to find. It's right down town on the main drag. Take the 1st Medford exit, turn left @ the end of the off-ramp, U will go through 2 signals(not counting the one @ the end of the off-ramp) @ the 3rd one turn right (onto Riverside) and get in the far left lane. It's about 3-4 blocks up on the left hand side;)
