  1. I've scheduled an appointment for a local muffler shop to weld a new pipe and flange to the cat pipe, Im not real confident that the new weld will hold up though. the metal on the cat seems quite thin. I have had similar problems with my 97 outback and the weld failed in about 2 months. This seems to be a week spot in the outback exhausts. I will order the OBX headers if it fails again..........
  2. Has anyone any experience with the OBX headers that are sold on ebay? I don't live in an area that has emissions testing so that is not a problem. The three inch long pipe with the rusted away exhaust flange has broken off the the back side of the center cat. If I cant get this welded back together the headers look like a cheaper option to factory cat pipes. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=151063791278&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNARL:US:1123
  3. Yep, wrong axle, replaced with a used Subaru axle I picked up at a junkyard, all is fine....
  4. Is there an axle washer that goes behind the axle nut? My Left front wheel was feeling loose and figured it was a bad wheel bearing. So last week I pulled the hub and took the knukle off the car, got new SKF bearing/seals and took them down to Wheeling Spring shop to have the old one pressed out and the new one put on. I put the knuckle back on the car and installed a new lower ball joint also last Saturday, I have driven the car about 75 miles. Tonight I noticed a clunk when turning at low speed. I check the axle nut that it was still tight and then noticed the wheel bearing felt bad again. I ask about the washer, because the axle nut seems to go on past the notch in the axle that you cant lock it on with a punch. The other thing going though my mind is the shop didnt change the old race and just put the new bearings on the hub......
  5. I 2nd the motion on Hakkas, over priced, they ware excellent and have outstanding traction in snow, but after about 2 seasons the belts start to break. Go with the General Altimax Arctic, these are made in Germany using the Swedish Gislaved tire mold. they are sensibly priced and can be studded and ware excellent.
  6. Got in my 01 vdc obw the other night to come home and had no low beam lights, thank god Walmart stays open 24 hrs and was only 3 miles away. fog lights don't shine very far and I hate blinding someone with hi beams.
  7. Get a 2.2 from a 95 and the y pipe, changes are after your beer buddies do the work, you'll need to rebuild it again, don't forget cam seals, oil pump seals, water pump, separator plate and new timing belt. I have seen several outbacks for sale that still have Head gasket leaks even after they were fixed by a local mechanic. 2.2s are $200-400 and almost bullet proof. I just checked car-parts.com and found a local 95 2.2 w/93K and warranty for $325. Bet there there are 2.2s in your area for sale that are similar.
  8. Do you use the regular or synthetic Dextron VI, I intend to use Valvoline full Synthetic Dex VI. at the next atf change.
  9. Is there any reason I should not use Dextron VI in my 01 vdc OBW?
  10. I have a 2001 vdc, 125,000 miles, great car, but lookout for the serpentine belt pulley bearings, they go bad quite often. I took mine on a 4200 mile ski trip this spring to Colorado, the car was assume in a blizzard through Vail Pass on I-70, Couldn't see 20 feet in front of me at times, forecast was for 31" of snow in Vail and there was every bit of 15" of snow on the I-70 pass. The week before there was a 47 car pile up in the pass. In Colorado they don't use salt on the roads, so the packed snow turns to ice, good thing they make the Semis use chains. With the vdc and a good set of all season tires, the car never slipped at all. Only problem was avoiding 2 wheel drive cars that had stopped on or along the road.
  11. I thought about that, seen them for as low as $25.00, but figured it was way easier to buy one that is plug and play.
  12. I ordered one yesterday on Amazon, was shipped today. $83.40 with free shipping.
  13. Thanks, I haven't been able to find it any lower in price. looks like a good deal.
