  1. thoretically you could do itelectrically the system could work, but there are a few problems; 1-driving the pump-running a low presure/high volume pump takes hp or amperage.subarus cant afford to give up much of either,so you woould need a lot of batteries inthe trunk to supply power. 2controlling ride height and strut pressure-ride height is actually easy to deal with as you could set up mech or proximity swtiches any way you see fit,but dialing in pressures would be tough to tackle as this will affect driveability .Too high of pressure, loss of traction and topping out,too low, sway and roll problems. There willnever be a perfect pressure for all loading and driving applications. You could make things expensive and more complicated by adding an accumulator to the systemto help with dampening, amd 4 corner proportioning, but them your suspension will cost more than your car. Large mining trucks use hydro suspension, but it is very expensive, complicated, but neccessary in that application Remember, you cant compress a fluid, thats why precise pressure control isnt needed in an air system, the air acts as a spring, hydro rides like oak.
  2. Im down with subarus because they make me think about what I am doing when I push the cars' limits, and I havent found a car that can do what this thing can any where else. The F350 is too hard on the wallet and parts list cause its too easy to overdrive. Plus I like the glares from soccer moms as I blaze past them in their MB suvs going up into the mountains.Pulling other cars and trucks out of snowbanks with a station wagon is pretty amusing as well!
  3. harness connector in good shape? also check current at the connector to see if the switch is acting up.
  4. He doesnt need 4wd.In florida, off roading requires an out board or paddles!
  5. see, baja knows how a sube SHOULD look! :headbang: :headbang:
  6. lotsa $$$$$$$$$ up here! The wreckers sell this stuff at a premium, and finding compatable stuff is pretty tough. forget oem I have been led to belive that there are some compatability issues as well.
  7. this might not relate at all,but I know that when GM trucks start doing that,I pry open the gear case on the wiper motor and wipe out the crud on the conductive strips for the park circuit.Works every time. hope this helps!
  8. On the way to work today, the wagon decided to go low rider on me by dumping all the air out of the rear shocks.NOT COOL! Got pissed off and decided to tear out the drivers seat and carpet as soon as I got to work. Well looky there,17 wires worth of corroded harness connector under the rug right by the door frame.Icut the connector out and cut in some weatherpack connectors in there place. Now Things are pretty much working again, but the car sits slightly askew, and the dash switch doesnt seem to work. Questions: 1-do I now need to dump the air manually from all four struts and let the car air them back up,maybe to let the cpu "figure out"what is actually level? 2-Maybe I busted the switch hammering on it trying to get it to work?I cant remember if its a 2 position switch or momentary? any ideas are welcome, and maybe we can pass on or save the bit about the harness connector,as there is very little about diagnosing the air sys on this board and I could see this being a VERY common failure! :headbang: :headbang:
  9. I would create a new ground, but I dnot know where to put it! but check this out,I got in the car to warm it up after work tonight, and there it was,the light for the height control was on! Only problem is,the key was still in my hand so the car wasnt running. Put the key in and fired it up,light goes OUT!Press the button, nothing happens. This keeps up,the sube is going to become a skidplate for the F350.:madder:
  10. tried to get the seat out and now I have two snapped bolts, shoulda known better, does any one have a fsm online that shows this circuit? first person to solve my mystery gets a case of Nelson Brewing Co. After Dark ale at wcss (damn fine canadian microbrew)
  11. my crappy haynes book has about 10 diagrams on pwr widows, but jack shat on the air suspension system or chassis gnd circuit QUOTE"these systems are generally beyond the scope of the do it yourself mechanic" Apparently writing manuals is well beyond the "scope" of these "perfessionals"!Do they even proof these things ?
  12. note that ive been too busy(lazy lol) to get under there.Ihope I dont have to though, interiors always get destroyed when I work on them!
  13. im getting 600 km to the tank,87 octane and driving like a jackass up and down mountains!
  14. just to add on to this ,i think the ps pulley has four exposed studs on it ,is there a bolt on fan that could be adapted for the ea82t?
  15. Sorry for beating this to death, but im trying to find the ground for my air suspension system controller. Im quite sure that this 1 elusive wire has caused the system to go completely dead. All the components work fine if I introduce an alternate gnd source, but the contorller and dash switch do NOTHING.Yeah the fuse is good, dont know if there are relays in line and havent had the time to rip out the drivers seat and carpet to swear at the controller face to face. I greatly appreciate the help Ive had to this point, but if I can find the missing link.....
  16. I recently had the same problem, and it was that hose I mentioned, but for the love of god, that sensor behind the in manifold, thats your knock sensor, and they get very fragile and expensive!I dont know if a failure of that sensor would screw up your startability that much, but try to stay away from that from now on($325 can,approx$200 us)
  17. that little pin that was missing actually locates the gear so that when set up,your valve timing is bang on,so,that side of the engine was probably out of time before. good thing the belt came off or you may have been suffering with a dog engine for a long long time!
  18. It wont affect power output, but it will affect where the power is going. It takes horsepower to run those accessories, ponies that get robbed from the drivetrain, If I can relate a fact:A Caterpillar 3406 E diesel that produces 425 hp,loses47 hp to the air compressor, cooling fan,a/c and power steering pumps.Same story, different engine.
