  1. well, driving in BC,my daily commute is wetter than that picture. Hmmmmm.....snorkel?
  2. going for a ghetto mod here,so if I cut off the bottom of the filter housing,Ill get better airflow, right? What about water+dust plugging up the filter?
  3. cleaned up the heads from my dead engine, and it lokks like there is a crack between the valves on ALL cylinders! Is this common,or is this a cast mark?
  4. why not just add an oil cooler? We used to do that on VW vans. You might even see one now and then with one bolted to the drivers side rear quarter.
  5. did you start the car and then....shift to reverse and hold for 30 sec, shift to drive and hold for 30 sec, shift to second.... this purges air out of the system.check yourfluid level after running through all the gears cheers
  6. screw the justy idea, work on your brat, theyre not too common up here for some reason, neither are modded older subes.Iguess they all got bought up by trust fund hippies, driven to Tofino and left for dead.It would be nice to see some cool brats in vancouver,Im getting sick of seing all these lowered imprezas around. What a shame!
  7. my car did the same thing after i cracked a head!
  8. any (bump) thoughts?Im trying to make th kick of the turbo a little less abrupt and give a little more inital torque.
  9. BTW,is it wrong for me to have smoked a civic si off a stop light? At first I was joking, but the he was pissed when i caught him and passed(honest)!
  10. just playing with ideas here but check this out. Im thinking of a way of fooling the waste gate into think the vaccum signal is highr at lower rpms, possibly with a dash mounted valve(restriction)to kill off a little lag.I would also put in a boost gauge or blow off to manage things and a pyro.Iam currently building a 3" exhaust from the turbo back, with a cat(damn emmisions testing)and a cherrybomb.Ithink this may give a little more snap on demand.Think this idea would work,or any other possibilities(low$$).Allthe parts to do this are readily(free)available to me.
  11. so if I come out i have to run production GT?In an 86?Wont Iget smoked by Imprezas and wrx"s?
  12. no its cool,we just timed it wrong to begin with!(13deg btdc instead of 25 deg)
  13. ha ha! We mistakenly set the timing to13 deg btdc, instead of 25.I set it properly and now super roo roars!Gotta be careful now though,I cant keep from spinnng the tires off a green light! Thanks all for helping a guy who was too dumb to check the simple things first. It turns out the repair on the knock sensor worked any way,Iwould have had a chek engine light if it didnt, apparently!
  14. Could I use the knock sensor from the 90 ea82t with the harness and ecm in my 86 ?The old failed one has 2 wires and the new one has one.If anyone has a good engine diagram,or knows the answer, please help.Parts like this are stuipd expensive up here. Or can I run with it disconnected,or jumped out so it sends no errant signal back? thanks
  15. AH HA! Thanks Setright, thats how its acting,I thought it might throw the timing off!
  16. Going to the hills,I drive in snow almost every day.Iguess i forget how well these cars perform in the snow and just expect to get where im going.Driving in town is downright suicidal though,60 % of the cars here are SUV's on idiotpilot....
  17. cant take a picture cause I dont have the cash for a camera,im too busy buying engines. It looks like a hall sensor, but maybe its not.how does the knock sensor work?would it have any thing to do with less than stellar acceleration with the new engine? It almsot feels like the wastegate line has a leak, but it doesnt..
  18. unit is on top of the engine, behind the throttle body, closer to the bell housing and off center towards passenger side.It takes a 22mm socket to remove and has 2 wires
  19. North Van Loc .Stinger, check out Total Autosport over here,980 9800,the only sube rally prep shop in western Canada. They just installed my new engine.Good guys,I trust em and so do my freinds,eh! Alaska,BC owns you.
  20. while installing the 90 engine in my 86,the crank position sensor fell apart. We assume that it was dead to begin with,so does the ECM have a limp mode if this happens? We jerry rigged the broken sensor, all good, but will the 90 sensor(1 wire) work with the 86 harness(2 wires)? Was one wire in 86 just a ground?
  21. just bypass the core at the two hoses that run to the firewall, you will need about 8" of 5/8 hose ithink to do this.If the floor dries up ,then you know!:boohoo:
  22. Superdoo is alive and well again, but holy sh!t what adifference in power!!!!!!!The engine I got is actually a 1990,22psi oil pressure warm,140 psi in all holes and an almost (1 week before the car was hit from behind)new TURBO.So now i have abunch of '90 parts sittin around, and my old engine to mess with, unless anyone locally needs anything. PS. drove the car for 3 hrs and crawled underneath, not a drop of oil.feelin' good!!!
