  1. Just wanted to give a little update Sometimes when we have problems we automatically think of the worst possible scenario. But after hearing all of the calls for disaster on my 84 GL's hesitation problem... being told it was the feedback carb's fault, the code 14 being a disaster code and all that (just check the posts)... The whole problem was a severely clogged carb from having old gas sit in it for a long time. A couple fo sea foams, complete tune up, a berryman b12, some carb spray cleaner and presto!! The car has been running like a champ now for weeks, about 1000 miles of perfect running and 28.2 MPG (so much for that post that I would be lucky to get 15-20 MPG with the Code 14 on! Anyway have a nice day. Thank you all for the help. But one thing - just don't automatically assume the worst.
  2. So probably the one that changes how the computer feedbacks to the carb the most is the O2 Maybe someone reading this would be kind enough to scan one for me I have 2WD but I'm not sure about the hitachi or carter. I thought that only hitachi was available that year. I'm trying to fix a problem with hesitation that comes and goes. The carb has 224+ k miles so it needs a rebuild. I also have the ignition pulse code (Code 14 that year), but I'm not sure how much that has to do with it since it was running for a few days perfectly even with that code on. I think it could be gummed up carb from sitting for years with old gas in it. I've only driven it 155 miles since its been sitting for that long, and it seems like if I spray a ton of carb clear in it and suffocate it sometimes it comes out of the problem for a while and but then returns to the same old stuff. I'm getting a rebuild kit through autozone today but I wanted to know what things could be effecting the feedback so I could replace those too. I don't want to go weber.
  3. Do I have to remove the distributor to take out the control module? I took the cap and rotor off but there is a part above the module that is shaped kind of like a star that doesn't seem to come off. Any suggestions? 84 gl ea81
  4. What is a duty solenoid? Also, are those the main factors (O2 + duty solenoids) that determine the feedback given to the carb?
  5. Apparently I have a feedback carb and I am looking for what items impact the feedback on it. I suppose the O2 sensor is one of them
  6. Couldn't I just rebuild the one I have then with a rebuild kit from a non feedback and take off the feedback equipment? I guess I don't understand the differences between the feedback and non feedback in this way ---- did the same model years (like my 1984 with this problem) come with the option of both feedback or non feedback? How could I determine which carb is which from looking at them at a salvage yard?
  7. Is it common for the ignition control modules to go out? I'm trying to find one for an 84 ea81 but they are rediculously expensive new and I don't have any place to get junk parts. Does anyone have one thats known to be good? How much would it cost for one of you guys to get a whole distrib from a junk yard?
  8. Does anyone have a list of sensors on an 84 ea81? Thanks
  9. I am starting to have my doubts if this code has anything to do with my problem as well. The two days that the thing was running great the ECS light was still coming on. What years had the non feedback carb that bolts on? I am going to call a salvage yard in my town to see if they would have it. Does it use the same air cleaner box? Thanks.
  10. For anyone who has been reading my threads you know I have been trying to chase this problem down. For two days my 84 GL ran like a brand new car and today it suddenly began having all the sputtering probelms returning and so on. My next questions are these if anyone has a clue: 1. Could the ignition pulse problem be caused by the fact that my ignition coil is leaking a bit of oil? Could the coil be overheating? 2. Could the oxygen sensor be causing this ignition pulse code to come on and cause my problem? 3. Could the sensor with the vacuum lines connected to it in the air cleaner assembly be causing the problem? 4. Could the distributor or the control module be causing this problem? 5. Could the carb be so worn that it is throwing off the system to display this code? 6. Is there any way to get my hands on a factory service manual or find one scanned online? Thanks and if anyone else has had experience with the ignition pulse problem please let me know. I know I am beating this subject like a dead horse but this is my only vehicle right now while I'm paying my way through college and providing for my wife and 2 kids so I have a lot more time to stay up late and work with this thing than $$$ right now. I also don't really feel like exchanging this out to a weber either for $$$ reasons. Thanks for all the help
  11. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Holley-Weber-2BBL-Carburetor-Carb-Chrysler-4-Cyl-2-1072_W0QQitemZ130223123707QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item130223123707& Someone have any info if this will work on the an 84 ea81?
  12. Does anyone know where I can find specific information on troubleshooting code 14? Is there a site that has info from the FSM? Thanks
  13. Does anyone have a link to a good, step by step method of converting my 84 GL to a Webber or rejetting my Hitachi to non-feedback? I would need step by step instructions. What model Webber needs to be used? Do I need any kind of kit? What modifications are necessary? Thanks
  14. When checking the engine codes, does the unit normally continue flashing the same code repeatedly? As stated in another post, the car seems to give me code 14, but it continuously flashes this code at least for the minute and a half that I watched it. Is it normal for it to continue with the same code?
