  1. I *want* to come...and I certainly have a rig that could make the drive there, wheel, and then make it home....I guess we shall see what I'm doing that weekend as the time draws nearer...

    It lives!

yes, in the olden days people used their imagination, but once people realized how much more effective the eye is than the mind/spoken word, they scrapped that method like an '80s domestic. That said, yes, your car sounds SCHWEET! but we've all seen a lifted EA82 wagon, but in the subaru world, they're all different, so we want to see it! THAT said...it's all in good fun, relax, we're still cheering you on
  3. well, we get in at about 10 am on the 8th...through sometime on the 14th...leaves us 6-7 days. we're renting a car for the whole trip, first 2 nights in denali, last one in anchorage, beyond that, we're not sure. already plan to do alyeska, and turnagain arm (did that on the tour bus after our cruise last year), seward, and some time in anchorage what museum in anchorage are you referring to?
  4. really? that's the size I have on my wagon....and with a tapemeasure, they measure up to almost exactly 27...cool!
  5. I can/will personally support this! it's certainly what burned up tranny #1 on our '92 3AT loyale...
  6. agreed! very nice is that the same one that got, uh, 'bent' earlier this year? lookin hot now!
  7. yes, Mudrat makes a front LSD, and subaru makes a rear LSD, we know about this, but, as said in the name, LSD's still Slip. noone makes a true locker, and most likely...never will. IMHO, a front LSD is a waste of money, just rig up the parking brake cables to independant handles, and when it get's hairly, lock the spinning wheel. it's not as clean as posi-trac, but it's hella-cheap, and almost as effective!
  8. just messing around with some basic filters on photoshop, came out with a few cool pics of my wagon. neon edges: graphic pen: Dust and scratches: This ones got a few things, lens flare, spotlight, some dust and scratches...
  9. I'm definately not bringing my wagon, that's a long @$$ drive!!! nope, we're flying, but would still like to meet up, maybe my parents could go do their sightseeing, and the three of us (you, my gf, and I) could go explore the scenic routes... but we're probably not going to leave time for a meet, or mudding or anything like that (not one of any length anyway), just looking for some recomendations from the locals as to what we should see.
  10. Here! 1988 Subaru GL Wagon, 5-speed, D/R 4WD, 4" AA lift, AA rear bumper, dual gutter mount CB antennae, Realistic CB radio, roof-mount yakima bike rack with fairing and custom light tabs, generic lights taken off my dad's old plow truck with Eagle Eye II covers, GL-10 rear wagon wing, pioneer head unit, removed mechanical fan, manually switched electric fan, Garmin GPS 45 (my automatically recalibrating speedo...), 15" pug alloys painted flat black, 27" GoodYear UltraGrip tires, XT6 seats, Thrush glasspack, rear disc brakes, braided SS front brake lines...and I think that's about it, for now. Chux and the Chuxwagon: the first pic of my AA rear bumper: next up is an AA bullbar with tabs for my fog/driving lights, and spare tire mount for the back (and a better spare tire to put on it), along with dual e-brake (got the handles, just have to connect the cables), and rear LSD
  11. so my parents and girlfriend and I are taking a little vacation to AK next month. We leave right after the midwest meet on August 8th, and get back the 14th. It's going to be super expensive, so we're kind of treating it like a once in a lifetime (or longtime anyway) thing. So what would you people who live up there recomend seeing. We're flying into and out of anchorage. and the first 2 nights staying up in denali http://www.hostelalaska.com/ (we have the family bunk cabin!). Anyway, looks like it will be super fun, just looking for more input, we have other ideas, but that's the only thing that's concrete so far. a mini-meet would be cool, if you SKA guys are around.
  12. looks good, just thought I'd bump this up to the top. looks like we'll be coming in either super late Friday night, or saturday morning sometime. I hope that isn't a problem with the 2 night minimum thing, since there's a bunch of us splitting a few sites. looks like there's ~20 people, in 13-14 cars, in 6 sites...not bad (just counting from the list on post 1)
  13. hello new-schoolers! haven't been over here much... anyway, a buddy of mine has a '95-6 (I don't remember) impreza L AT coupe, and he's putting on a turbo (stock wrx...td04 right?). He's looking for an up-pipe, something about stock wrx ones won't clear the xmember...I'm not sure. He says there are companies that make these, but only sell them as part of a kit, but he's got the turbo, DP, etc. off a part-out, so only needs the UP anyone know of a source?
  14. I'd say go to the hatch, the poopenvagen is tired and old. I parted out my '85 for less...but then again I have a loyale in need of D/R 4WD. we have austin here in town for help in putting an EJ22 in an EA81 hole. I'd love to help, if I'm in town (xmas break maybe), there's still some value in the parts on the wagon, take advantage of that and upgrade.
  15. nope, it just makes it so you only have to have one person. it does the opening and closing of the valve for you, while you pump the pedal. You should still use a little hose from there to watch for bubbles. click the link on Morgan's first post for pics and diagrams too.
  16. go climb under the back of the car, you'll see, there's a springpin on both ends at the joint. jack up the car to allow for enough play to pull out the axle, pound out the springpins and pull the axle off the stubs. you don't even need to take the wheel off.
  17. looks like I probably won't be able to come, not on this short of notice...maybe next year!
  18. I didn't air down at the last event we were at, the car's so light, and it just makes your sidewall's more vulnerable. if you've got good strong sidewalls (MT...probably, mine are just all seasons) then it might help. btw, the jeep guys said to run about 15psi, and that's even on a wrangler, which is pretty light (probably not as light as a wagon, but close, with no top/doors).
  19. cotter pin, axle nut, brake caliper (for discs), and pull. may want to seperate the hub from the disc for drilling (4 bolts)
  20. you don't have to replace the motor, I can say that almost for sure. but you're going to need different transportation for a few days, while you figure this out and fix it. maybe put the t-belts back on there and try starting it once, but not the covers, and see if oil's coming out of anywhere. and if the oil pump is spinning.
  21. I'd like to go, but don't have transportation, I doubt there's any way to convince my parents to let me go...but I may be up to ride with you (if there's still room, my gf would like to come too), and I'd be more than happy to drive it back to MN for you, I'm very close to excelsior.
  22. Just thought I'd follow up on my carnage, I think I figured out what happened. There were a number of things that contributed to it, first off, I found that my strut adjustments werent level, the side that broke both times was a bit higher than the other...oops...note to self... and another was driver error, I took a picture of the spot that killed my axle (I posted it earlier too) the rock in the foreground was nothing, but the one further down in the trail, even with the tree was what did it. I didn't think I could get between it and the tree (turned out I could, but by then my rear axle was dangling from the CV), so I tried to bump the rock with my right front tire to get over it. well, I didn't get it hard enough, and lost traction before I made it over, and rolled back. so the right rear tire was spinning forward, while I was coasting backward, and then it suddenly got traction again...that jarring force was most definately what killed it, and a similar thing happened on sunday. Anyway, now I'm very aware of what my weaknesses are, and will be more prepared in the future. It's good to know that if I get in over my (or my car's) head, my axle will fail before anything more serious. And also, that unless it's an exceptionally extreme situation (or a reman'd axle), with those axle angles, the DOJ will just fail, and not break.
