  1. Can we get an update? This project sounds too great to die!
  2. I want this transmission. The best gear shift out there is the 1.59 D/R down shift in second gear (on snow of course). I used to have a BRAT w/only rear axles installed using a custom trim piece to prevent shifting into 2WD inadvertently; the quick throw b/w Hi & Lo ranges was phenomenal. The fact is that having that 'halving' effect of the 1.59 Lo range allows you to put your (low hp/tq) engine in the power band at any speed. I like it most for the 2nd Hi to 2nd Lo shift, it gives the lower-speed torque like first gear w/o out the hesitation from the 1st gear synchros. Build me one?? (I like the 23-spline mod, EA81 FTW!)
  3. Thanks for the suggestion. I am looking for new motors all around (4), but in the meantime I am hoping to figure a way to raise the glass by hand. It seems like a hassel to get the pannel off & I need a temporary fix. As far as sourcing the replacement regulator, any suggestion helps. I'm not sure where to buy a new one so I was thinking the local dc electric repAir shop could rebuild the old ones. - Noah
  4. Hi, so it's getting colder & my rear window is part way up with a dead motor. Can someone suggest a method or tool to force it up fully? I will replace the window regulator sometime when it is more convenient, but for now I want it rolled up. Also, I tried to force it up by hand to no avail. Thanks for the input!
  5. I posted prematurely . . . I got the belts on with the help of two beers. GD, I mis-spoke calling these belts serpentine; my bad, thanks for your attention and the correction! Cheers, - Noah
  6. I'm installing both serp. belts on my turbo and cannot get the 'idler' belt on (closest to engine). The idler pulley itself is adjusted up, but the belt will NOT go on. its slightly too short to get onto the idler pulley. The PROBLEM is that this new belt measures up to the one its replacing. It seems odd that it's a fight to get it on the adjuster/idler pulley (which adjusts a significant amount) . . . I'm at a loss at the moment and normally I'd blame the parts store for the wrong length but this is the size that came off!
  7. ^Thanks Randy, I'm discussing this with Robert currently. I would like to change topic here and pose a question: What are some 'recipe' suggestions for a custom FT4WD D/R build? Firstly, the application would be auto-x and rally-x in my 84 turbo hardtop. Secondly, I'm trying to decide on the center differential, lockable or EJ . . . And of course I need to figure out what final drive ratio to go with and what gearset to use. Input appreciated.
  8. So, it's pretty standard around here to run GR2's front and Gas-a-just's rear? Will this setup retain the stock ride-height adjustment?
  9. I'm considering these upgrade struts for my hardtop and have a couple questions for members who have used gas-a-just replacements: - KYB lists only Rear struts for the Brat application, is this the strut being installed on all four corners? - Performance: Please describe the driving characteristics. Is there a significant reduction of body roll? How does it autocross? - Bushings: Where can I source stock and/or stiffer bushings? . . I'm thinking autocross campaign with my t-coupe in rwd . .
  10. Thanks for the helpful comments! I had a hunch that it was preventatively expensive, but worth double checking with the resident experts.
  11. Can someone guesstimate how much a transmission shop would charge me to rebuild a FT4WD D/R with swapped gears? I'm just looking for a ballpark estimate.
  12. What are other people's opinions? Will it decrease the value of this car to do some light modifying? Also, I'm starting to think about performance struts with the stock hight adjustment, any suggestions?
  13. I'm trying to decide what I should do with my 84 T-Coupe. Its got 58,xxx miles on it and runs perfectly. There are two minor body dings that need attention and it's about to get new alloys. The interior needs a new rear seat, and I'm planning to magically resurrect the digi-dash. The question that I've been mulling over is whether or not I should restore the vehicle for resale or for my personal pleasure. I'm very curious what resale value of this car would be in near-mint condition. The reason that I'm torn on this issue is the simple fact that this car is highly upgradeable and has a lot of potential and cool factor. As an example, a 4- or 5-speed and rear disks would improve driving qualities and fun, but might devalue the vehicle in terms of resale. So, my question to you who have a gauge on the rare EA market is: tell me what this car might be worth.
  14. Keep us advised on this; and definitely snap as many pictures as you can when you find the subie-stash!
