  1. Thanks for the info sir, I'll probably just get a newer 2 wire dist. I see them in the scrap yards for $40. or so. I have a new dist. that uses points and am having to re adjust - clean every couple of weeks and am tired of it!! Thanks again BENG
  2. Hello suby people, I have a ? I have an EA71 eng. from a 1981 installed in my 76 DL and I would like to use the distributer from the EA71 also. I know ther newer pointless dist. have 2 wires and will hook right up to the coil. Mine has a 3 prong plug in connection. Does this system use an electronic ignition modual?? and if so would anyone have one to sell? Thanks Beng
  3. vey nice looking car, The red paint still looks good! What parts do you need ? I shall look in my area. Bengal (Dave)
  4. It's easy enought to tell which way the axel goes, just look at the splines on your axel and transmission. One hole will have a male spline going right thru its center and the other , a female spline goin up its center. Just match them up. This eliminates any guess work . All the beveled edge does is help you to " find center " for your punch or your pin. That is all that it is for. I do not profess to know a lot about subaru's , These are just observasions from what I have worked on so far and a liitle mechanical common sense. BENGAL
  5. Simple solution, you say you have it 1/4 of the way out, so cut the part of the pin that is protruding off flush then drive the pin back in far enough so as to clear the axle and remove..... BENGAL
  6. Bought myself a nice little 76 subaru and now the engine has gone bad! Now I am looking for alternative engines. I'm tolds an EA71 is a direct fit, or possibly an EA81 if I use the EA81 trans. along with it, would be nice to have an overdrive. Just looking for suggestion as to what will or will not work?? I was able to drive this car around for a while , before the engine went bad. It is just amazing to me how much attention this little car draws! Wherever I go it is gauranteed someone will ask me about it and have favorable comments. BENGAL
  7. I have a 76 subaru wagon, it is from the west and when I got it tthe door weather stripping was just fried. JC WHITNEY had what looked to be the right strippiong but I was loath to pay the price. So I went to a local junk yard, (taking a sample along with me) and found a suitable allternative from an early 90's GM pick up truck. It works great and the junk yard would not even charge me for it! BENGAL
  8. :-\ :-\ Hello suburu people, I have bought myself a nice little 1976 Dl wagon. only problem is that there is an engine knock when warm. I have the heads off and the cyl. linners look great with absolutley NO RIDGE. The repair manual has me pulling the cyl. linners in order to access and remove the wrist pins prior to splitting the engine case. My question is, can I split the case without removing the linners, and reassemble as well?? Also, can anyone tell me where I might find crank and connectiing rod bearings, and head gaskets? I have just about everything else. Thanks in advance BENGAL
