  1. So here it is...another thread about how little I know about cars and how I got scammed into buying a lemon of a Volvo. Today's issue with the 95 Volvo 960 I bought 2 months ago is an idling problem. I started her up today and it was definately idling incorrectly, when I was stopping it acted like it was going to die. I pulled over immediately and checked my oil...it was bad looking (wrong colour- i.e. thick and milky and smelled somewhat like gasoline). I had an issue similar to this about a month ago, when that happened I had the air flow meter and temp. sensor replaced and new oil change(that was alomost 1,000 miles ago). Okay. So I take it into the guy who sold it to me. I was civil, no cursing, as much as I wanted to freak out and go off on the guy I kept my cool which is hard for me being a quick tempered lady of Irish roots who doesn't take s*** from anybody. But here's the kicker. The mechanic calls me up and says it was the spark plugs. Really? I find this hard to believe. They changed the plugs and the oil - no charge. He also tells me I need to drive the car on the highway more and that's why the oil is getting gunked like that? True? B.S.?! I guess I really was born yesterday. Any opinions or thoughts on this situation?
  2. :-\ I'm an idiot, I realized this today...that I can use a standard socket. I don't need a Volvo genuine parts piece of crap.
  3. Update: Worked with the bike a bit... got a few "coughs" out of the bike on thursday trying to kick start it on the only nice day this week. Unfortunately had to go to work...going to put a space heater in the garage if I can finagle one off someone.
  4. Common sense would've told me to use a standard socket.
  5. A couple of weeks ago I acquired a '78 XS500 cafe racer....I was wondering if anyone has any experience with bikes. I can't seem to get it to start at all. The bike was some kid's project and he started on it and then let it sit for a couple of years. I charged the battery(I'm going to go get the battery tested tomorrow). The clutch cable seems loose, like really loose, it doesn't seem loose enough to affect it, or so I think. I can't get even a noise from the electric start. I tried to kick start it. Nothing. Anyone have some ideas?
  6. I gotta try this...hopefully it works... Will post more later...
  7. I'll try and get some pics up tomorrow afternoon before I go to work.
  8. I will post some pics of it soon. It is the Mountain Grizzly. The guy I bought it from acquired it for the engine but thought the Grizz was too nice of a car to destroy it. I saw it on craigslist, test drove it two days later, made an offer, and the rest is history. I was glad to do the search on it here on the boards. I had no idea it had had so much work done to it in the past.
  9. I put 1980 GL....I meant 1982. I was thinking of a bike...
  10. Uh, I'm new here. I joined the board to try and find out a little more about a car I purchased recently. It's a 1980 Subaru GL wagon with an Ozified lift kit, it's reddish with a mountain scene with a bear on the side...it says Mountain Grizzly. I'm not really into cars, I apologize for my poor taste in cars (craigslist BRAT .)...motorcycles are kinda my thing. I bought the car for 500 bucks and have the intention of fixing it up (new fan, brakes, etc.). I was wondering if there are any other people in the Missouri area? P.S. Who here has knowledge about the Ozified lift kit? My car leans to left...how can I fix this?
