  1. Thanks, I will procrastinate this project like every thing else. Looks like I`ll be taking it down to the block and swapping components listed above. Maybe I should find a $500 EJ22, that old 91 LSi Is a trusty old steed, but it needs mucho work and scrap steel is $$$. What about the heads from the 99, Will I have to swap heads out too? Assuming no, the 99 heads should be sold here or ebay, what is the market? I really do thank you and understand the value of this place. I will gladly make a donation when the time comes.
  2. I have a 91 Legacy sedan LSI getting rusty and run down a lot, 151k. Someone gave me a 99 Impreza L with a blown motor.Good looker. It blew the EJ22 stamp right off the block, might make a funny photo if your interested. I called for a new/used motor, running about $1500 , they said the engine was spacific for 98 and 99. Is this 91 motor compatable? Maybe swap out a wiring harness? I have no clue. Hope to get some discussion, thanks from Colorado.
  3. I have 6 distributors one of them is from an 85 rx ,send me the number from yours I`ll try to match it up. It seems unlikely to match up with so many different dists. As for the knock sensor if it was on the block I don`t have the block anymore. I`ve got the intake manifold and a few goodies on that. I know wat its like to have`em sittin for a while. The codes can be tough to diagnose.Dan.
  4. I`ve got lots o parts from an 85 rx .I dont what a knock sensor looks like like.If I have it its yours for a song.
  5. A long phillip head, look for a holes in the frame to go thru, maybe ,it`s been a while.Lift the engine lightly if not.
  6. Theres so many codes flashing, can it just be a ground for the harness? This 1988 gl-10 has had a long history of electrical problems. Plush with auto tranny{replaced} I`ts too nice to scrap and it ran great before it broke a few years ago. When I got it the gal handed me repair reciepts to the tune of 5 grand. Strong blue tranny, turbo, sunroof ,perfect interior.Money pit. The intermintent symptom was best discribed as a bad starter. Believe me its not the starter or the cabels .The symptom has dissappeared with a fresh battery, but always comes back. The codes are crank angle sensor11,temp sensor21,fuel injectors14,15.MPFI Ok, so the check engine light was on and neglected. The car did heat up climbing Little Cottonwoon Canyon to ski Alta.It would idle-cool down and be fine,so maybe I fried the sensor. Ok,it acted like a bad starter.Just keep clicking and it will eventually start. After clicking for one hour, sure it fired but thats when what appeard to be a fuel problem happened. It would idle and rev but not drive.maybe I fried the injectors with all that clicking. Over the years It would only idle not rev.I called a professional ,he put a direct line to the fuel pump from the battery. Now it wont even Idle. The pump still hums in a nice intermintent pattern with the key"on".and pumps fuel to the spider. Where are the ground wires for these wiring harnesses? All help and wise cracks are welcome. For $650 I got a year out it. Not my money pit,I may cut my losses, and scrap, but of the 23 Subarus I`ve had this is the nicest. Dan,Colorado 9120ft
  7. If you liked the model buy one just like it so you can swap parts for free. It may be time to upgrade to the boxy loyale style. Dont get an auto tranny for the mountains unless you want to be passed by the 18 wheelers on I-70. Check ball joints on a Colorado car. Mag-chloride eats them for lunch.Try turning a few bolts to see if the mag froze them.
  8. This ultimate bell and whistle car has been a nightmare.Codes 14 and 15 flash on the ECU. Abnormal injector output. MPFI, are all the injectors shot? The book says check harness and connectors. This car has had an intermittent glitch back when it ran. It acted like a flat spot on the starter. It would always start, just click it for a while. A few starters later it eventually wouldent start. I tried clicking for an hour one day.It would turn over and idle and rev up,but not drive. Now it won`t even fire unless it gets a little prime in the intake. Are there grounds somewhere for the harnesses or could all that clicking fry my injectors? Please help and thanks,Dan.
  9. My first posting on my 23rd subaru. Had an intermintent electrical short. The short is now letting me crank the starter after changing some cabels. Now the fuel pump hums and squirts intermintantly when the key is on "on". It fires with a prime down the intake. I think a relay or control unit or bad fuel pump pressure. MPFI with all options, digital dash,pnu-maniac shocks, etc. Need help please. I`m off to the magnet store to get that socket out of the intake. Thanks Dan. There is more to the story. Of course the check engine light has been on for a long time.
