  1. well last night i got home from work and there was smoke pouring out from under my hood, no light to check it out last night. today had the fiance rev it up while i was under the hood and from the back of the intake coolant was coming out at a pretty serious pace. -88 GL-10 turbo -swapped 92 loyale S/r push button 5spd -136k miles -.........
  2. it was an auto GL10, got the trans and rear end and axles from a loyale. ill check the coolant temp sensor
  3. just picked up my shiny (sort-of) new GL-10 turbo with a 5spd push bttn from a loyale in it. aside from a crushed velvet interior..... shudder...... the only real problems are that it is really hard to start have to try for about a minute or two then finally sputters to life. (guy said it was the o2 sensor its a 3 wire..... and that caused the problem) any ideas other is that in gear i have about 3 inches of slop either way. it seriously is just like nuetral in MY loyale so i know i need bushings. where can i get a set cheap (all i can find is newer model ones) any help on these would be nice will post pics tommorow
  4. thanks for the replies, the main reason i wanted 2" is so that i can just put normal tires on 14" rims and have them look right. and i really don't want to put Much strain on the driveline. looking into the 2" tube method will post pics of my results AND MY NEW SUBARU !!! almost got out of subarus due to finances, and poof the craiglist gods dropped a nice minimal rust GL-10 turbo, with a 5spd push button out of a loyale into my lap. and it has a power moonroof I AM STOKED!!!
  5. is there a cheap way to get like 2" total lift on an ea82 ? i can't afford a real lift kit (unless someone will make me a deal on one)
  6. What clutches can i use for a 93 awd 5spd impreza, all the ones on ebay are super vague on what will fit it, but for about 2/3 the price of brand x in town i can get exedys on there. what other suby's use this same clutch
  7. Im up in traverse city and i own 3/6 of the loyales in this town that ive seen. and one of those in town is 2wd, soon i will have 4 http://nmi.craigslist.org/cto/1050211934.html I have these two up for sale in T.C its a drive but if you want both ill figure out a deal, both have clear titles and theres one in Grand rapids the stubborn guy wants 1800 for.....
  8. hmmm, the thing is im poor, and i can get this whole XT for about the price of an EJ adapter kit, and im just venturing a guess but i think the harness stuff would be much easier going to EA rather than EJ. any ideas or am i way off base on my guess.
  9. got a chance to pick up a wrecked (rear) xt4 Turbo. was looking at my loyale and wondering how hard swapping in the turbo motor would be?
  10. my suspension died along with my axle and brakes on one side, put my car on blocks and decided whilst i was waiting for my parts to change my 10k old oil, changed it marvelled it bye bye tick.... then a nice slow stream of coolant pours down fron dead center front of my motor... water pump ??? is that the best bet?
  11. turboing for turbo's sake is stupid (not meaning any offense or passing judgement) the fact is you see honda tards putting 1100 bucks down to get 6-9 lbs of boost and yes there is a difference but not a huge one. My money would be: the 2.5 -je pistons 7.5:1 or so pistons with good JE rings(ive seen way to many exspensive rigs blow because they saved 20 on some chineese rings) -acl race bearings all the way through. -bigger cams -550-750 cc injectors -cheapo intercooler off ebay -piggyback system -and a walbro 255 -metal head gasket -spend a little get it tuned right -mitsubishi 14b or garret t-25 turbo (50-100 bucks) 15-20 lbs of boost that should let you handle 10-18 lbs of boost real easy: then you can make an sti wet itself all in all it would be about 1500-2000 then all you need to worry about is not killing yourself with boost its always better to bide your time and save before running into a project, then you'll have a uber fast DD and not a lawn ornament that goes psht when you shift on your monthly drive...
  12. im 21, and today when i was giving my gl parts car the compton treatment there was that weird moment when i realized that the car i was stripping down has been together and running strong since before i was born, gave me a minute of pause for sure. i don't think that the 80's subarus should ever be historic well until my daugthers driving one at least. when you stop and look at the features in an 80's subaru power damn near everything, great mpg, good emissions it puts them way ahead of their time. ive owned ALOT of cars and my first car was an 86 trans am 350 fi and the 86 gl i was taking apart had just as many spiffy features as most of my mid-late 90's cars. im still kind of new to subarus in general i come from a racing background in cars and have always been huge into talons (owned 13 so far) and these cars, allbeit quirky and new to me in alot of ways just seem better. with my taxes i had two options: 350 awhp talon, or a couple XT's and a DL and i have decided on the subarus. i can confidently say that at least my DD for the forseeable future will always be a scooby......... these cars RULE:banana: might get a dsm for a track car but everything aside since i bought my 2000 OBW because i had a daughter there really hasn't been another choice in my book. Call me backwards but historic means original starting the lines, true classics, and as long as on a weekly basis i spot a gl, or a loyale in my little town that i don't recognize they will just be the best cars age doesn't matter. sorry for the long post its late and i've had way to much BAWLS.. SUBARUS FTW!!!
  13. wow, if i could find that many EA's in a short amount of time id think i was in heaven its like pulling teeth to find anything around here, even though i did find 4 at a scrapyard. lucky go with the least rust, i live in michigan and ive seen 1 loyale without rust, and they wanted 2k for it.....
  14. nice!! my best was moving from my old house to the one i live in now, i had a 2000 OBW, queen boxspring on top, queen mattress inside, dog, and four or five packing boxes. and still took two tracks
  15. yesterday i had to go get my gl parts wagon, got to my buddies and his starter was fried on his 1 ton chevy wrecker. well instead of him getting his mud truck out and taking forever i hooked to it with my loyale, five minutes later and on snowy roads we were up and running and yet another person knows to bow to the might of the scoobaru oh yeah and i did it in 2wd. I love my wagon
  16. probally not, i was going to get the y-pipe to hold me over, but the cops haven't bothered me even though my exhaust is broken completely off before the cat
  17. thats what i was figuring that if you can go from the er- into ea then they should be the same, not sure which one of the two would be the easier swap. since there is both the turbo 4 and the 6, but i can't remeber off the top of my head if the xt6 is a manual ill take my camera with me tommorow, then ill post the loot then whatever i don't use will go up for grabs on here then i will be content with my wagon i promised I wouldn't give up on, and the toy. my bad the loyale is an 87 that im getting, there was a 90 next to it but the body was poop, and another carb'd one with a shot body(but it did have D/R) and theres an early 80s wagon in the next lane. so i figured less engine compatability for a nice body since my drivelines tight. i wanted to use the tax money to get a 98 impreza but i figure i could have two cars new tools and a new cherry picker for less money.
  18. well just filed my taxes and im going scooby shopping soo for 1200 everything is set up for the first or second for me to pick up:: -86 xt4 turbo awd -89 xt6 awd -95 outback -90 loyale carby auto awd mmmmmm.... im going to rape pillage then everything else is up fro grabs, and ill have my xt finally and depending on diffuculty i might put the ej22 from the outback into it, anyone round here done that particular swap ?
  19. well not just electrical reasons for a new one, i need to do my cv's, rusty body, no fenders in front, hood mangled and tied closed, interior electrical issues, and i think my brake master cyl, is going fast im searching round here for a new scoob, and i'll probally part this one.
  20. just went out on lunch to mess with it, fired right up, everythign but blinkers good to go....... im stumped, i need a new loyale
  21. sorry about the lack of info i just popped into work and i was rushed, its a 92 loyale spfi, 5 spd. and my hood is pooched, so snow can get under it
  22. well on the way to work today for no apperent reason i lost, wipers, blinkers, and headlights, im at work right now, any ideas on what could do this would be stellar i get out at 8 and don't have a ride, (gets dark at 6:45)
  23. sweet next paycheck or maybe even sooner its on!!, and i am picking up a beater ( thats 5 years newer and in better overall condition, and is still the beater compared to my loyale) so i won't be rushed
  24. last pic of the loyale is exactly what my car looks like (when im dreaming) awesome shots.
