  1. Thanks. Like the the powder idea... and she'll smell baby fresh too. Also I hadn't tried the pump the break while I watch method. Obvious... now. Greg
  2. I have had a brake fluid puddle building up just behind and inside the front driver tire. Do any of you guys have a trick to track its' source. I have lit it and crawled around under but the fluid is so clear I am having a rough time seeing the source. Also, I have a master cylinder from a 2wd E81, (this one is four), do you happen to know if it is compatible? Thanks in advance, Greg
  3. Yes that may be on my list of things to do. I figure I run it and hope she holds till I get the time. Is there a year issue on that or can I plug in any manual trans from an e81? Personally, I want to keep this thing as stock as possible. I roughly understand the mechanical on a manual, pedal cage... but is there any electrical or dash readout issue. Do the plugs exist for the high/low to show in the dash and does the dash have the bulbs? gvh
  4. On my 83 e81 I had tracked down a serious problem to a bad distributor. Back when it went wrong the tac would dance then peg just before the engine died. After I replaced the distributor she runs pretty well and that problem went away. Now she runs a little rough and at about 2500 rpm the tac will jump an 1/8" or so every one in awhile. It isn't a natural engine kind of jump, it is a twitch. Really fast then gone. I have swapped spark plugs, cables, coil, cap and rotor. Timed and reidled. Took her for emmisions and she failed by just a bit on hydrocarbons. The tac has me thinking it is electrical but for now I am having a beer, taking a break and looking for ideas. Greg
  5. Thanks Qman, It hasn't sat much as far as I can tell. 150k on the trans. Thanks for the link. I pulled the governor and it felt "smooth as a knife through butter" with little to no "applecore". Swapped and adjusted the shifter assembly. I guess the problem is deep inside. Thanks again for the help. Greg
  6. I have a real clean set but I'd like to trade them for a clean set of 1985 Rally sub alloys. See http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/wheels2/wheels.html. Or if someone has some Rallys I will sell the Pugs to cover the asking price. Greg
  7. Just a heads up. Dropped by to grab some parts and saw this one. Was real clean wagon and everything looked 80k. Front was mashed pretty good, distributor busted but otherwise the engine looked pretty shiney. Power steering, auto windows, mirrors, all the right turbo gold trim in nice shape, badges all sweet. Interior blue and pretty sweet as well. Windshield busted and glass all over. Everything Subaru including the battery. Greg
  8. Picked up an 84 with an automatic transmission. Not what I would like but I want to run it until I can swap to manual. Did an atf and gear oil change but it still has an issue and I wonder if this is something that can be adjusted. At low rev the car pulls like the trans is too engaged. My idle is fine. This is most pronounced in Reverse. In all cases Drive, Reverse and even Neutral to a degree the effect is has a kind of wonky feel to it and shakes the car a bit. Idle Reverse is the most wonky. Once I rev up and head down the road in any gear she seems sweet. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Greg
  9. Thanks General. So even if the body damage was well forward of the strut tower "wells" it could still be the cause of the problem? I had always thought that the line for steering, alingment... issues was damage forward of those tower wells. Greg
  10. Hi all, I was reading about your poly rebuild of the tranny mounts and had a couple of questions. First, I have done a bunch of work on my brats over the years but have not tried to pull/replace these mounts. How difficult are they to replace? Do you unbolt the engine/tranny and jack the whole thing up to get them out. Is there enough room to pull them from there? Second, I have one brat that has been wacked in the front end a couple of times over the years. It burns up it's right axel far too often and it also tends to jerk the steering rack apart right where the tube and bar meet. It has done this to 2 racks now. I am wondering if the wacks it took messed up the mounts and caused it to have too much play so I get the axel/rack problems. Is there a way to test the mounts without getting too dirty? Any insights would be appreciated. I am tired of refixing this thing. Greg
