  1. Oh I'm so sorry! I wrecked my baby (exactly like yours, only silver and gray) 3 days after I got it!!! Scraped the right side off on a guard rail! Seeing those pictures makes me want to cry!! At least youre getting back on the horse! Hope the insurance company is cool...mine wrote me a check the next day. Good luck.
  2. So I Santa brought me my goodyear assurance t.t. early! Put them on my 99 OBS and WOW!!! Couldnt belive my eyes (and everything else that goes into driving.) Not only do they look sharp, but they handle incredibly. I had a chance to drive on them in the heavy rain. Did 75 down I-70 and it didnt even feel like there was rain on the road. I dont think hyrdoplaneing is going to be a problem with these tires. However, dont drive on gravel. The huge treds like to stick onto large chuncks of gravel and fling them at your later on when your back on the highway. I am going to Salida, CO to do some skiing at Monarch on New Years. Hopefuly I will be able to report back on thier (and the OBS') winter performance. And by winter I mean snow. And by snow I mean I have driven somewhere I shouldnt have. But hopefuly it snows hard when I am there, that way I dont have to get myself into trouble and the skiing will be great! If anyone else has some snow experience with the new goodyears, lets hear it. I am also in the mood for some good winter vs subaru stories!!!
  3. Thats odd that people have had problems...I have never had a problem, but I know that when impacts were first popular people had lots of overtorque issues, but I just figured that today's mechanics were savy about the wonders of a torque wrench. Has anyone used walmart and had no problems? I wouldnt think I'm the only one.
  4. Now I want it to snow!!! Also, I have heard of the Wal-Mart impact problem before. I think that maybe a few bad apples spoiled the barrel because when I watched the mechanics replace my tires, they spun it on with the impact and then took a torque wrench and tightened it the rest of the way...probably knew i was looking or something!
  5. Asked for tires for x-mas and santa came early! Just ordered the new tripletreds on walmart.com. Dont think it was the best price in the world, but I love walmart because if anything happens to your tire there is usualy a walmart with in 50 miles of anywere in the US. Drove around on them yesterday and they seemed to do very well on the dry road. Very quiet and sensitive. Today it was raining cats and dogs and I figured why not! Boy howdy, these tires were ment for water!! Doing 70 plus down a highway that holds an alarming amount of water (Kansas roads seem to do that) was an enjoyable ride! It was almost like there was no water on the road at all. I cant wait to get a good coating of snow/ice and see how they do. The seemingly considerble grip produced by the treds coupled with Subaru's amazing all wheel drive appears to be a rather formidable combination. I would woundnt expect any problems when the ice and snow comes. On the down side, I wonder how well they will wear, since Subarus seem to be rather rough on tires. Since balance and rotate are free though, I can easily rotate them at proper intervals, and that seems to help the life of a Subaru's tires considerably. All in all, my father's 400 bucks seem to be well money spent!!!
  6. I second spybot. Works great, if you know what your doing!
  7. I got sick and tired of removing the bolt so I just left it off. The resevoir seems to be snug with out it. Never had any problems and its a snap to remove when I'm working on the engine.
  8. 60-70 sounds good to me, I think thats what I payed for mine. Just dont get rebuilds!!! They are cheaper, but I had to replace mine twice in a year.
  9. Oh yeah, forgot to mention that the wagon is in pretty darned good condition and no rust at all, yet alone any holes that i can stick my head through! Sounds like you got a sweet deal.
  10. 450? ouch. Im selling my 92 legacy for 500 (or less) and its got 214k. Still seems like a bargin to me. If it was all wheel drive I would make it my shagin wagon rally car. Wish I could find a 100 bargin. Heck, for that price you could drive it like you stole it for a week and sell it for 50 bucks (or parts.) Some people spend 50 easy just going around and around in those stupid little go carts at Fun World, so I would consider the loss money well spent!
  11. My 92 legacy has the intake from the side panel, but one flaw with this that I schemed up was the fact that on a hot day, after parked in a lot all day (say during work), and you just drive it home (say only a couple of miles) would the body really cool down so much as to "cool" the air? Wouldnt it be better to have the hot outside air than the super heated air being warmed by the hot body? I guess on those cold winter days, this could really help! But here in Kansas during the summer, the 100-105 really bakes your car. Worth pondering over.
  12. You speak words of wisdom strakes. Never heard of vinylex, but I am going to go buy a bottle tomarrow and try it out. I still like turtle wax though.
  13. I put some thought into this myself. Still havnt figured it out...my guess was that it takes in a little cooler air that is drifting up from under the engine, since it isnt subject to as much hot air that has been pushed through the radiator and around the engine. Either that or the gap around the head light lets more fresh air in...who knows that those crazy engineers were thinking. Now that I actualy sit down write out my theory, I am more puzzled. We should figure this out!
