  1. In the last couple weeks I have: -Reupholstered both front seats (I'll start the back seat later this week, most likely.) -Repacked grease in the inner CV to stop it from clicking. -Replaced the hatch lift supports. (Was tired of holding it up with my head when loading/unloading crap from the back)
  2. In my experience, working on the older generation of Subarus is actually pretty easy, especially for myself, having very little experience. That is a very low number of miles for an '80 Brat, and if the odometer hasn't been screwed around with, it's pretty impressive. Something you really want to look for before buying the Brat is rust. Rust is a Subaru's worst enemy. Check around the fenders, bottoms of the doors, and of course the floorpan. Bad rust means a lot of body work that you may not feel prepared to do. If you do buy the Brat, stick around the forum. It's one of the best resources you'll find if you run into any issues or have questions. Show us some pictures!
  3. So I've got a nice block of time off from work, and I'm planning to do some serious work on the inside of my '86 hatch. The carpet, quite frankly, is pretty darn gross. It appears that the previous owner spilled several dozen cups of coffee on it, and various other dark-colored things. Ick. Has anybody replaced their carpet? I know there isn't a molded replacement to be had for these cars, so how many yards of carpeting will I have to buy? Does this number cover all the way from the front to the cargo area, or just up to the back seats? I'll post some pictures of my progress as I start work.
  4. I wish I knew. My hatch's carpet has had dozens of cups of coffee spilled on it. Fairly gross.
  5. It was 107 here in Wenatchee today. Supposed to be even hotter tomorrow. :-\ The good news is that my soob is running nicely, and staying relatively cool. I wish I could say the same about myself, though. Without an A/C, it gets hot, hot, hot.
  6. My EA81 Hatchback was manufactured 03/86 and the engine number is 061979.
  7. It's a shame that they're just sitting out there. Quick, somebody go rescue them! Bring 'em back to life.
  8. I drive an '86 GL hatchback, and have a couple questions about some things I've noticed. What color is this trim supposed to be? This greyish color doesn't seem right. What the heck is this for? In these last two, these are places for accessory buttons I'm guessing. Anything in particular supposed to go there?
  9. Just wanted to say "hi", seeing as we're both Subaru fans, and live pretty close. What do you drive?

  10. Speaking of that plastic trim that runs the length of the car, what color is that supposed to be? My GL is a charcoal grey color, and the plastic trim is sort of a green-grey that doesn't look quite right. Was it chrome originally? Edit: I mean the thin trim piece (about .5") That runs just under the door locks.
  11. Both my side window latches are broken. One is held together with a zip-tie, and the other has a rusty nail holding it together. Neither work. The plastics inside are pretty good, save for the plastic cover on the cargo light, which has crumbled into dust.
  12. I used to drive an '06 Impreza. It was a lease car, and the lease ran up. During the time I had it, I put just under 16,000 miles on it. Car belongs to my mom now. I spotted this '86 GL on a used car lot and had to snatch it up. Runs great! It had 115,605 miles on it when I bought it in May, and has accumulated a few more, being my daily driver. I'm currently trying to find the little hatch lifter arms. Mine are worn out. Autozone said they'd special order them for me, for $36.99 a pop. Seems pretty expensive. Does anybody know a good place to get parts for older Subarus for cheap?
