  1. Just finished the adjustment. It was a piece of cake. Had my wife junp in and press the clutch so I could see what moved. Noticed a rod coming through the firewall toward the center of the car toward the driver side. Loosened one retaining nut, then unscrewed the main nut until I got the release point I wanted and retightened the retaining nut. Clutch now catches much lower but the pedal doesn't have much resistance at all until it is halfway depressed. Thaks everyone for your help = 97 impreza
  2. Thanks for the info. I am also curious about the max rimwidth and tire width (is 225 too wide) that I can put on the car without the tires rubbing the wheel wells.
  3. Powerhound, This is an impreza not a legacy. This is a 97 (Outback Sport Package) purchased new in Dec 1996. It is a 2.2L no hill holder clutch. Check out the specs on http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Spec_Glance.aspx?modelid=2634&src=VIP&tab=2&sub=0&trimid=997#trimsel
  4. Powerhound, Thanks for the helpful info. I will fiddle with it tonight. BTW, my 97 OBS is a 2.2L and does not have a hill holder (great emergency brake though).
  5. I would like to adjust the clutch cable on my 97 OBS so that the engagement point is closer to the floor. Is there such a cable on this car; if so where is it and can it be adjusted easily? Thanks in advance.
  6. Had a similar noise on my 97 OBS. It was the water pump bearing. If you need to replace your timing belt soon have them check/replace the water pump too. Saves you the expense of pay for labor twice and these pumps only last an average of 80-100K anyway.
  7. Sorry about the photo. Here it is. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3669721200&category=22692
  8. Buy a couple of these for $10/ea and Bolt them to your factory load bar. Fasten rear tire to rear load bar with pedal strap. Very cheap, low profile and unobtrusive and can be removed in winter or for long highway trips to cut down on wind noise. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3669721200&category=22692
  9. I've had some luck with GUNK Valve Medic on a 97 OBS 2.2. Still had some noise on cold mornings but considerably less.
  10. Looking for the cause of a medium pitched humming noise coming from my air intake system. Let me give you the background. I recently had a water pump replaced on my 97 OBS at the Subaru dealer. The next day I had a full fuel system cleaning performed at Valvoline Instant Oil Changes. This cleaning consisted of disconnecting the fuel system and connecting a cleaning fluid canister to the fuel intake. Simultaneously they were performing an engine oil flush. I also had all the differential fluids and manual transmission fluid changed at that visit. I also had them change the oil with their new Valvoline MaxLife. The next day I noticed a medium to high piched humming coming from my engine compartment. It is imperceptable to most people but I noticed it right away. It does not seem to change pitch or go away with acceleration but I cannot be sure about this because road noise usually drowns it out. I traced it to the air filter compartment. With the engine running I removed the air filter and the noise became much louder and a little lower pitch. I took a quick look at the vacuum hoses and could not find a problem there. I am also not sure if the noise was there after I picked it up from the dealer of if it only started after the Valvoline work. If anyone has any suggestions on what may be the source of my problem please reply. Thanks.
