  1. correct me if I am wrong but aren't the phase 2 2.2's single port exhaust while the older phase 1's are dual port? I know my 92 ej22 in my brat is dual port but my 98 is single port.
  2. 1998 impreza OBS was the car I used the excedy clutch kit on. Worked really well thus far.
  3. I replaced my built to last autozone clutch with an excedy clutch kit from rallysportdirect.com. It was like $200. They don't have 2.2 obs as a model but the 2.5 impreza one worked wonderfully. I don't know how they are for shipping though since I live near them.
  4. I live in the wrong state.... and I need to lift my brat. Maybe once me and my wife are done with school and move to washington we will be able to hit up cool stuff like this.
  5. Will the wiring match up for the most part? I might have to make a visit to my local junkyard tomorrow if I have time...
  6. So my buddy has a fun little 2002 wrx automatic. I told him if he ever wants to sel it let me know because my wife would LOVE to have an auto to drive instead of my OBS. He called me today to tell me he would sell my the car for $1500 due to the current bent rod in the engine :-\ If I could find another EJ205 turbo engine and just drop it that would be sublime. But I am wondering about other engines and what works with wiring and ecu etc. I kind of live in my own world of EJ22 because thats whats in the brat and obs, and as far as re-building engines.... I don't have time/money/patience from my wife to do that I guess what I am asking is how difficult/costly would it be to rebuild the engine and fix the problem (I know the shop quotes were from $5k-$7k) or are there other turbo motors that would fit, or could a newer model 2.5 fit in without loads of wiring (wiring the ej into the brat was enough for me thanks). There is a 2007 ej25 from a legacy for $1200 locally. I just want a nice reliable car for the wife to take to school that can still power past people on up the canyons And if anyone is still reading by this point... Thanks! Any info is appreciated. I will continue my lurking for now.
  7. In Numbchux conversion manual he mentions something about the neutral switch. I can't remember the details but iirc you just don't wire the neutral switch. Read through his write up 6-7 times just to be sure
  8. ah axle replacing, how much I love it. As far as roll pins, I bought a box of harbor freight ones and have been using those. That is when I loose the original from hitting it out and it bouncing to some depths of the garage never to be found again. Like everyone else said, it can only go on one way. If it is 180 degrees then the holes will line up like 60-70% but the roll pin won't work. Where in utah county are you? I might have some time tomorrow before heading back up to northern utah if you want a hand in the morning.
  9. I kind of hate you. Just because its snowing here I'm gonna have to let you know when me and my wife head to moab in the spring with the brat.
  10. I was kicking around the idea of getting a thread adapter kinda deal when I did mm power steering. Use the EA ends and get something that threaded into the end of the inner tie rod, and then it changes size to then thread into the steering rack... Make sense? It does to me and I can make drawings if anyone cares, I talked to a machinist but I ended up finding an EA power steering rack and grabbed it asap, good find for $15
  11. The brat sold pretty fast. Hopefully it went to a good home. What junkyard was the brat at? because I have been to kurts and state street and didn't see anything.

  12. If you have/had a donor car I found it helpful to keep the old gauge cluster because then I can trace wires when my tape that was labeling them fell off. Use the pinout that numbchux has on his website and that will tell you what wire is supposed to be the tach wire, and then find the one that comes off your gauge. It is kind of confusing but at the same time not. I spent a few days just following wires around because I kept second guessing myself, but it ended up working. I recommend reading the conversion manual in the sticky of this section, at least 3,4 or 6 times
  13. I was going to text you but my phone seems to have lost your number... There is a brat on ksl in the cars for $150. It doesn't run but its a perfect candidate for a potential EJ swap... Thought you might be interested. If you do buy it, I will buy the camper shell from you that the guy won't sell separately :D

  14. BRAP BRAP car runs, and drives. WHOOOO!!! Thanks for the help all, hopefully I never have to deal with this again.
  15. Stellar, I was getting told by lots of people that the universal style ones never worked as good and blah blah blah. Thats what I get for looking for my info someplace other than USMB
  16. Got my driveshaft figured out. Legacy at the junkyard and took 2.5" off the back section. Cut, welded, and balanced for $10, my cousin is a pretty awesome guy. I am having a hard time finding proper O2 sensors tho. NO ONE carries a proper one. It's the plugs that are getting to me. On my car the back one is a square plug but ones at autozone and other online places show triangles for the rear. OR they are the wrong plug and it won't fit. Subaru dealer wants $150+ for one and they will have to order it. Anyone know a harm in getting the one from autozone and wiring my old plug to it so it fits? I know the wire length is supposed to be pretty exact.
  17. Well it started blinking a lil red light after I pulled it from my car so I was waiting for cops to swarm my house demanding I return the stolen vehicle.
  18. Not to worry about throwing it out, I am as big of pack rat as any. It will be going in a box in the basement for years to come if I don't just plug it back in. I will have to search around some more and see if I can activate it and for free is the best kind of price. Who knew something this interesting was dangling by a zip tie above my feet these last few years.
  19. Kinda nifty, I am assuming that by unplugging this, it won't have any ill effects on the car? Im getting my brand spanking used driveshaft made tonight which means I might have a running car by tomorrow and would hate to screw something else up.
  20. Thats what I am concluding now. A little more ripping into it finds a nice little processor and a SIM card actually. I am now slightly curious as to my vehicles past lives it has led. I wonder if I can patch into it and see everywhere it has ever driven since the little black box was installed.
  21. It has been in the car since I bought it over 3 years ago. It's kind of gotten in the the way whilst chasing wires and today I finally pulled it out. Kind of curious what it is. Here is some more info. Part A plugs into where an OBDII scanner normally goes, and part B because what I would now plug a scanner into. From my little searching I have discovered it is some form of gps/cellular emitting device since there is a blad antenna and a little box velroed to it that says, GPS with a bunch of numbers. When I pulled it from its not so nestled place in the car it started blinking a red light at me, until I unplugged its battery pack at least. Can I just get rid of this? or even sell it?
  22. Yup, new clutch for sure. and Exedy at that. I think the driveshaft decided to mangle the shifter linkages as well because when I was getting ready to put it on the trailer last night it was REALLY sloppy and was very difficult to find gears. Haven't worked on it any yet due to my cold/flu. Hope to get it up on jack stands and at least pull the front part of the shaft off (leave the rear part adn carrier bearing up there). Its convenient where it broke since I can leave that little stub inside the end of the trans to hold the fluid in. Fun stuff, when I get it off I will have better pictures of the damage. Im going to mount this driveshaft on my garage wall as a trophy. Oh and yes it is an impreza outback sport. No real bad problems until this last month.
  23. Well... This is just awesome. The clunking went away, but thats because the UV joint snapped while my wife was getting off the freeway on her way to class this morning. Im going to pick it up with a trailer later today and should have better pics but these will have to suffice. Anyone know of driveshafts from other cars that are the same length? I don't want to drop a ton of money on a new one, I would rather sell the car, haha. Sorry if the quality isn't great, I only had my phone.
  24. Carrier, sorry. I think someone called it a carriage bearing once and it stuck. So yeah, depending on how I am feeling tomorrow I will crawl underneath and see what I can see.
  25. The one before the autozone one was slipping. After taking a drive with my buddy martimus, we think the latest thumping noise might be carriage bearing related. The rattle? not sure. The rattle was tolerable, but a bad thumping is pretty scary. I read a thread about how someone had bad thumping at low speeds and it turned out to be the carriage bearing. Anyone know if carriage bearings are car specific? Or can I steal one from the row of legacy's at the junkyard?
