im wondering how much hoses you can cap off on the hitachi carb before it dosn't work....this is on my 84 wagen. my dad has already caped off a few hoses here and there and it has continued to pass emissions even without a cat. im just wondering what i should not cap off..I know very little about this carb and it seems it has some crazy vacume choke or some sort of vacume deal that opens the second butterfly...

no kidding im not to far into my little project but im sure this place will be of some help. i hope it contiunes to grow. -
i might be wrong buti don't think there is alot you can do. i have seen some mods but due to the ecessive amount of vacume lines and crap you can do a whole lot.

no kidding man. all my vw stuff is metric also, im used to it. but i think the parts places have asked in standard measurments.

yea i took it off today and it measured close to 7-7/8" the motor was pulled from a 2wd and it was all compatable with the 4wd tranny so we used it.

im not sure how but the 84 wagon i got passed emmisions without a catalitic converter...well what was left of it. and a carb in need of some tlc. but i guess with the weber its harder to pass. -
My 84 suby is getting a makeover. i cold have had my hands on an 82 wagon but i figured this was a better start and my mother would not go nuts about having another car in the drive way...we already have 6 drivable cars in the yard..a 7th at my uncles house. so i will get some new fenders and fix some front end damage and use it for a little while. i will have to rebuild the carb and weld up some new exhast pipe and fix the front bumber and grill but it should all be an easy process if all goes well. that way with this as my driver i can get started with cleaning up my 84 vw scirocco, i want to have the body all fixed and i would really like to respray it before augest. i doubt that will happen though, here is a pic of todays progress. I have to fix were the right light mounts, my sister hit a car and that is pushed in a few inches. and she also managed to smash both fenders . lucly there isn't any major damage just surface parts.

Hey i finaly found a few pictures to scan, this is the first suby i have had. you would be dumb to not run some sort of BOV on a modded wrx... if its all stock i don't see why you would need one. but if its running hi boost its good to have. imbetween shifts all that bost slamps against the trottle body, and can cause the turbo to stop spooling. a bov works when its used in the corect aplication.

PeterD replied to redrum3433's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the last time my dad and i did cvs on our suby we got a remanufactured one form Shucks, it came with a lifetime warranty and well we havn't had any problem with it yet....well a boot melted due to the catalitc converter being cloged and getting to hot. but thats fixed now;) we got one and it was about 60-70 i cant remember you have to have a core to give them though. -
i think i saw 3 rims just like that at a local junk yard...i was going to get them but i wussed out i wanted 4

My reasoning is poor experience with synthetic oil in older cars. im sure my scirocco worked great untill the second owner came along and messed up the perfect maintinece record of the first owner. causing many little things to happen. I then resorted to Chevron Dello400 15w-40 and have no major oil leakage. this oil is also run in th 84 suby i got and works great. i can see synthetic being fine if the seals are in good shape. who knows maybe this older ea81 engins can take synthetic and not leak...i don't know.

its a good oil, although i would not use it in an old subaru.

SWEET JUNKYARD FIND....i think ( 6 pictures )
PeterD replied to PeterD's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i might be back at the yard tomarow, i kinda want the turbo mirrors. the body is in ok shape. no major damage. -
well thanks for the offer...im trying to avoid an auto tranny.... my dad said the lady asked to make an offer. it will need an engine swap, will an ea81 fit into an 82 gl ( i think its an 82 ).?
