  1. i did one of the lower ball joints when i put new cvs on the car this summer. the right ball joint was toast but the rubber was still good. it happens.
  2. my friends don't think any of my cars are worth anything. they think vws suck and my old subaru is well lame. i get tired of it but i blow it off and it dosn't get to me. my friend is a honda guy and i respect that. just pisses me off when he cant respect what i enjoy. oh well. my dad dosn't mind my car stuff. the more i learn about my dad the more i see how much he rubbed off on me. he had a 66 vw bug with a hand full of mods... duel carbs, couterballanced crank, highlift cam, header pipes, lightened flywheel... swaybars... ... he even told me he had it up to 95mph one time, and got a chance to race around SIR (pacific raceways ) so each time i want to work on the car or whatever.. i just remind him of his youth. i guess we are the minority when it comes down to it. we are much more innovative, having to think of stuff rather than looking on nopionline and buying the latest chip, intake... whatever. the rest of my family... sisters and mom don't understand at all. but i don't care.. they like it when i fix there car. but they cant complain about me spending alot of money.. not too many folks can drive around in a 100 dollar car and drive it home. maybe my friends just make fun of me because im a tightwad
  3. tell him to buy his own... mine cost $100 bucks from the neighbor lady;)
  4. i took my vw scirocco to a free dyno day, there was a ton of cars.. well about 30, some hopped up neon srt-4s a few turbo mr2s and a hand full of your usual rice. i put down 78hp at the front wheels and 95lb/ft of tourqe.. i was not laughed at, we all had a good time.. and they complimented my nice fat tourqe curv. i would not expect anything above 60hp at the wheels. and if the place has some mature, genuine car guys they will enjoy helping you out.
  5. thanks guys. the previous owner seriously took care of this car. he bought a new to him 04 outback to repalce this one. im sure my parents will have the car for quite some time. tonight he called me and said he started it up... and its running great.
  6. there is no real path to follow..you need to be innovative with your mods... but im sure some of the guys here can point you in the right direction. heck when its snowing i usualy go and slide around in one of the parking lots at school.. or on the many many many roads i found today... i cant wait.
  7. if i can fix my rear camber problem i'll find a set of decent snow tires and headup with yall.. I hope theres snow.
  8. my dad bought a 98 outback from a co worker for 1500 bucks... the previous owner claimed the headgasket was bad.. and being thats an issue with this motor he wanted to sell. my dad picked it up after much talk with my mother and she fell in love with it. its loaded with everything. the car looks brand new. but it has 180k miles on it. and just the other day he finaly got the motor put back together after doing headgaskets, timing belt and a a hand full of other stuff. here are some picts of the project. notice the ware...not much at all for 180k miles ^^^ tried to pull the heads without removing the block... it was possible but ended up pulling it to make everthing easier.. but you can remove the head withought taking out the engine.. my friend kyle is wrong.. wize old man: 1--young cocky car guy: 0
  9. hey what snow tires do you guys use on your stock 13in wheels. im considering a set. please move this thread if its not fit for this part of the forum. i got a set of used snow tires last winter that worked good..but i sold that car with the tires on it. my room mate had a set of Nokian studded tires that were sweet.
  10. i'll be home that weekend.. can i come anyway even if i don't get a tree..
  11. time permiting i would love to do this in the summer first, to get a good idea of what im going to be driving., my current subaru is in no way suited for this kinda drive.. it needs alot of work.
  12. Hey i found some picts of the highway in the winter time.. crazy stuff.
  13. sounds like you need to find some good axles...ive done that a hand full of times with my wagon... no problems thus far..
  14. yea doner car would probably be a better idea..i'll have to keep my eye out. unless i know exaclty what i need to make the swap happen.
  15. yes! i was checking out your website. and i was pleased to read that you make the adapters. right now its just an idea. i need to source a motor.. possibly pull one from the local pull and save to save big bucks. also the wiring harnes and ecm. and yes i am also condisdering a 5sp duel range swap.. i was thnking of running the ej tranny but i don't want to mess with the rear diff and front axles. i want to keep the cost down so it may take some time sourcing the parts. im more or less excited to have about 130hp up from my 70hp or so right now:lol: i won't be able to keep the tires from spinning.. im just getting excited thinking about it.
  16. So i got this crazy idea to swap out my carter carb for spfi setup from a newer ea82 car... idea seems resonable, and if done properly would be kinda sweet. but after thinking alot about it it would be alot of work for little gain, possibly milage.. but will it be worth it... im starting to think not.. so while in my psycology class thismorning i got this crazy idea. why not just swap in an ej22 into my 82 wagon. i will see a leap in fuel milage, a hell of alot more power, and some refinement from fuel injection. THe idea has been in the works, i have searched and do know i can get an adapter plate made for this swap.. but since im in college i may possibly atemt this feat with the help of my super handy father. wiring will also be a chore, but with time and some patence it can happen. so what do you all think. i have another car for the summer. my much loved and über fun to drive vw scirocco. could this swap be completed by the time the winter sets in... has it been done on an ea81 powerd car? am i even more nuts than doing an spfi swap?
  17. looks like a fence... not feelin it but if you like it:cool:
  18. i found that my hill holder dosn't work after swaping engines... i relaly don't care much anymore. thought it did help alot when i was learning to drive... i may looking to adjusting it or whatnot.
  19. i really really enjoy a nice 4 wheel controled slide in the winter... i cant wait. in the summer months the subaru is ok.. but i enjoy driving my vw on nice sunny days... but when the weather turns sour the subaru is my favorite... end of story there some of the best cars in the snow.
  20. since our cars were built as fwd cars they perform better that way. but in most cases rwd is better, its better for racing, better for performace.. and has a certian cool factor.
  21. my parents are coming up saturday afternoon.. around 4ish. so any time before that im good.. friday night im booked also.
  22. welcome, a subaru is a subaru for all i care.. have fun.
