  1. Thanks for the info. This is happening when it is already in 1st (ie: moving along in very slow traffic) not down shifting into 1st at speed. It will be happy for a few minutes then out it comes. Where can I find the adjustmens and the specs for them? Any links to pics of these pins would be great. Thanks JWS
  2. Well the title just about sums it up. i have a 88DL with a swapped in D/R, it pops out of first gear on decel only. The trans has no abnormal noises and other than this issue works great. All the mounts are intact and in good condition. Am I looking at tear down and replacing the blocker rings or are these only serviced as a complete synchro assembly. I was not able to find the thread on trans tear down with the search feature even though I thought I've seen on on here, help with that link would be great as well as any insight into what I'm in for. thanks JWS
  3. the water through the carb can do wonders for the carbon build up. The easy way we check cats at work is to smack them with your hand (note: the cat better be cold, ouch if not) or lightly with a rubber mallet. good luck JWS
  4. Thanks, that is one of the places that I'm going to check, just don't have the ambition yet. I might check it while at work tomorrow. JWS
  5. This concern can also be caused by a failing cat converter. IE during the rattle noise it blocks the exhaust flow.
  6. Wow 24 views and still no Ideas. I was hoping I am not the only person that has had this. :-\
  7. This just started happening to my "88 DL wagon, in the morning the cluster back lights do not come on even though the dimmer still works on the heater controls and the hazard switch. After about 2-5 miles it starts working perfect. Another thing that just started to happen is the pass side blinker indicator in the cluster works intermitantly (the blinkers ar working proper on the outside) Thanks JWS
  8. Thanks for the info. Where is Toppenish Wa,? I'm in the Seattle area. PM me what you think a reasonable price might be.
  9. I am sorry for asking a question that I know has been answered already. But, I have been less than successful with the search. I really would like to install a rear swaybar on my 1988 DL. It does have a front bar. '88, DL, spfi, D/R. What do I need to get to install one. list of donor cars/parts would be appretiated.
  10. Don't mean to hijack, but I just swapped in a dual range from a "88 gl into my "88 DL push button. Is there a NEED for any of the plugs to get hooked up or is it just for the reverse and 4x4 indicators? Thanks JWS
  11. I have a spare 1988 gl cluster, dual range 4x4, had power windows and locks. If you're in the Seattle area you try it.
  12. Thats a new one for me. I've been working with front wheel drive and CV's for better than 10 years and have never heard anybody refer to inner cv joints as DOJ's. I suppose you learn something new every day or so. Thanks. as for the main question, I have found a few postes for the rear struts but still nothing on the front.
  13. Yes there is a very slight chance that it could cause issue with the rad. But one thing to remember, the heater core passages are much smaller than the radiators. I still recomend doing a drain and fill after the heater starts clearing up. I had to do this to my '88 dl and a buddies '88 gl.
  14. sounds to me like your charcoal canister. it is used to accumulate fuel vapors from the gas tank and allow the engine to burn them slowly. I don't know what will happen if removed.
