  1. great suggestions guys, I will try to get that done tommorrow and keep you posted. thanks for the suggestions. I think I know way to little about these cars to own one! I am in the market for a little honda/toyata/geo metro to replace it so if anyone is interested in buying this little guy, feel free to PM me! In the meantime I am going to go find out what a wastegate is so I can check if its stuck or not ....
  2. ok, I recent got a 87 gl10 turbo sedan, it has about 140k on it (i think) and its an auto (gross I know) anyway, the previus owner said he put 20w-30 in it to "keep down the ticking" which seemed stupid to me, I went ahead and started runnign 10w-40. anyway, I have come into some problems lately and though and was hoping for any thoughts/input any of you all have: a) seems to leak oil, I guess this is not a huge issue as most sube's tend to leak a bit now and then, it's coming from the passenger side of the motor somewhere (cant pinpoint where) really bad lifter noise, this started BEFORE I added any of the "thinner" oil. I am wondering if the guy I got it from used some seafoam or something. Is the ticking a problem? Is it something I should be concerned about or is it just "noise"? c) there is a weird clunking noise when going over bumps, it seems to be coming from the front left side, again, I cant exacly pinpoint it, it almost sounds like something is loose but I checked and found nothing up there after a brief inspection. Its more of a "clunk" then it is a rattle (if that makes any sense) I suspect it may be suspension bushings, I have heard they clunk when they wear out... d) (this is the sucky one) the turbo stopped working, one night it worked, the next morning I woke up and the car seemed sluggish, it took me half a block to realize I didnt hear the familiar whine that I have come to love over the past few months. I took out the spair and couldnt see any aubvius issues, I started it up and couldnt hear any exaust leaks that may cause this, what happened? Is my turbo just firied? For some reason it seems like if a turbo blows it would make a loud noise, or would happen under extreme circumstances, but in this case, it just stopped working.. any thouhgts?
  3. I have an 88 gl10 turbo sedan, its got 135k on it, 4wd automatic tranny. I just picked it up a couple of weeks ago anyway, I was driving it tonite and the electrical just died, suddenly, not alot of warning couldnt get it started again so I drove my friends car down to where it had broken down, took his battery out and drove my car home on his batt. I am guessing this is the alternator, so I will put in a new one on thursday. Starting this morning my right turn signal would blink really fast like it does when one of the bulbs is burnt out, but all the bulbs worked well, also the radio randomly turned on today, the cruise doesnt work (I dont think that has to do with electrical stuff but it may?), the horn and four ways also dont work. The clock resets every time I start the car and the radio never remembers the pre-sets. Any thoughts? Could all this stuff be related? I know a bit about workin on the mechanical stuff but I don't know JACK about car electrical systems, any of you guru's out there have any thoughts or opinions? All help is welcomed! Thanks in advance -Jeremy
  4. Ok I have an 89 gl10 turbo sedan, just got a "new to the car" (used) motor put in it about 2 months ago, didnt give me any problems really for the last few months in the last week I have noticed a severe power decrease, not only that but it starts up fine the first time, then as I drive more if I let off the gas and it goes down to idle it dies, after it dies if I crank it, she sorta sputters and coughs a bit then fires up ok, if it DOES stay at idle, instead of just dying, it runs really really rough. now the car did sit for a year or so before the new motor got put in, as soon as the new motor went in it got a fresh tuneup and a nice full bottle of injector cleaner, but I am thinking the issue might be a couple things .. either: a) sediment at the bottom of the gastank getting stirred up and clogging the injectors or reaking havoc on the fuel system maybe the cat is clogged? also the heater doesnt work and it kind of gets nasty mileage (about 210-240 a tank) I think I am gonna put a new thermostat in tommorrow and see if that helps anything, also I will try pulling the cat off and seeing if she drives any better, as far as cleaning the injectors, I havent really looked, are they hard to get to? any ideas from the experts? Anything is apreciated! -JEremy
  5. hey there, not many of you know me, I am probably one of the biggest lurkers on the board, but I had to post just to say I finally got my car running! it's an 87 gl10 sedan, thanks to austin (ratty), patti (austins girl), dave (austins friend) and varius other folks, they did great work! I spend all weekend just doing some fine tuning, new plugs and all the tune up stuff, some new belts, reset the timing, oh by the way, ya know those green wires you have to connect to bypass the ECU when you set the timing? Apparently you have to start the car and THEN plug em in, or else the computer gets confused, took me a bit to figure that one out! got a few questions though ... What exactly am I supposed to be setting the timing at? I have it at 22 I believe every 20 minutes or so my car randomly just beeps, no lights, no motor issues, it just randomly beeps .... its super weird I am lookin for some trim pieces here and there so I'll start keeping my eyes out for that besides that, I guess its just time to start rummaging through the archives to start learning about EA82t's! I don't know ANYTHING about turbo's (all my previus sube's have been ea81/ea82) so if anyone has any good links or pages let me know otherwise I will just start diggin through the archives! anyway, I'll see you guys around -Jeremy
  6. You gotta look out drivin in the ocean like that, I was down at ocean shores up here in washington once, and i was driving my friends geo prizm in the surf .. deffinetly not as deep as you were, but I actually got pulled over by the police on the beach and they told me I was driving in "clam beds" after the cop made sure I wasn't wasted he told me that basically they dont give a crap about the clams they just use that as an excuse to pull people over because they get alot of drunk folks out there ... looks like you had a good time though and thats what counts, we just pressure washed his car off at a car wash and it seemed to do the trick!
  7. Wow, you have done a great job of setting that thing up! do you have any action pics? I would love to see it off road, not to mention my buddy was just sittin next to me as I said "wow this guy is doing a really good job settin up his brat all nice" and he said "he's never gonna wheel it" anyway, I would love to see some action pics! -Jeremy
