  1. So electrical issues abound I replaced the flasher with the one off of my old subie (that was working last i checked) and still nothing. Anyone have any idea why the turn signals/hazard lights don't work? I checked the fuses and they were all good, also not sure if this is related but the cig lighter doesn't work and the speedometer/odometer do not work. I'm in a bit of a bind as NC in their wisdom give you ten days from the date of purchase to get it "Inspected" and a CEL and none working hazards will definitely fail it. ******EDIT****** So I got the Flashers/hazards working the hazard light control had come unplugged. ugh the simple things. Still wondering how to get the odometer/speedometer working though.
  2. well the window is off of the 90 legacy which is the one that went 305k I just bought it at 240k and when I bought it I did a major tune up like replacing the timinig belt, clutch (it was a 5speed) and the water pump, replaced the spark plugs and o2 sensor sealed any exhaust leaks, and I had ShawnW reseal it externally at least (Iwas still in denver back then) . And I just did regular maintenance from there. She lasted me 4 years and 65k miles, including my move from Denver to Raleigh. I could still fix her up but the fact that she was in 3 separate accidents made her a bit ugly on the back and sides. ***EDIT*** Also anyone know what to do to fix the odo/speedometer issue? I've heard for some of the late 90s vehicles that it's usually a speed sensor?
  3. Cool yeah I've been trying to ask around, just gotta give them a ring during their business hours, which unfortunately doesn't include weekends. Yeah I checked the fuses they were good. I'm thinking it's the actual flashed.
  4. Well the old 90' Legacy LS MT I have is on it's last legs, after 305k miles and 3 seperate fender benders, she's on her way to the great highway in the sky (mostly for cosmetic reasons). So what's that mean? New Project Time! I picked up a 93 legacy wagon 4EAT for pretty cheap do to the back window being busted out by the dude's 9 yr old. And I was wondering if anyone has any experience removing the back window from my 90 and letting the folks at an auto glass shop install it on the 93. Also a few other issues it has are, hazard/signal lights dont flash, and the speedometer/odometer no longer work and it throws a CEL. Thanks in advance!
  5. Wow thanks for the great info, I was sweating thinking my tranny was on it's way out. So this easy fix, does it require the tranny being dropped? or can you access it from the the hood? Also is there a write up somewhere?
  6. Ah, are those the bits that keep the shifter from not having so much play while in gear?
  7. So I have a 90 Legacy LS 5-speed, and today while leaving work the transmission decided to get "stuck" in 1st gear, finally I pulled into into a parking spot and turned off the car and tried to shift it out of first into other gears and nothing, then i got it into what I believe was neutral but still i could not shift it into any gear but 1st and that was no easy task. Finally I gave in and thought my tranny was a goner and decided to limp home in 1st gear when after 10 feet lo and behold, I was able to shift perfectly into all my gears as if nothing ever happened. Anyone have an idea as to what happened? Also my shifter has a lot of play side to side, and when i checked the tranny fluid levels it was overfull. Thanks in advance.
  8. i am looking for some serious help. i have a 1996 legacy outback 2.2 litre 4 cylinder. the engine keeps cutting out as if one would think it might be the fuel pump. i have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel hoses, spark plugs and wires, sprayed the mass air sensor and checked the vacume hoses. cannot find a vacume leak. fuel flows fine. car ran fine for the last month and the problem re-acured this morning. so now i am at a loss. if i let the car sit for an hour it will start fine but when i put it in gear and give it gas it spudders and cuts out........ any one have any ideas what i am dealing with

  9. So like 8 months ago my rear left caliper seized up so I replaced it and the pads and the rotor and the brake light has yet to go off, which doesn't bother me too much except now that I live in NC it has to pass some safety inspection of some sort and I just don't want that tripping it up. So I'm just wondering how to reset that light. Thanks in advance!
  10. My car just made a big road trip from Denver, Colorado to Raleigh, North Carolina which was about 1800 miles. this last weekend we went to the beach and at one point it just did not want to shift into 2nd gear I could skip it and go into 3rd gear and all the other gears when I was driving to the beach. I checked fluid levels and everything was normal though the trans fluid was a little high and smelled a little funky. I drove back and one point going from a stop it did not want to get out of first gear.. it was like in neutral but i couldn't move it side to side and then I turned the car off moved the shifter around into neutral and worked it into the different gears. I then started the car in neutral went into first and drove without incident. just concerned about this issue. Thanks in advance guys!
  11. Yeah that was it. Filled it, burped it and now it's working again. Never had it leak or anything... wonder what happened to the coolant that was in there. I'm addressing all those other issues now as I'm going to be having to do a drive to Raleigh, NC and I'd rather not break down in the midwest.
  12. I did check the coolant level and it was low. I have not tested to see if that solved the issue as it has not been cool enough to test it out yet but I will post my findings as they are made available
  13. I have not, but I will try those and report back. It just seemed strange to me that it only starts to overheat when it is idling and blowing cold air, if it idles and blows hot air then it doesn't over heat and if I don't have the heater on at all it wont over heat.
