Total noob here.
I have a 91 loyale 5 speed and first off I am wondering what motor is in it. it is the 1.8L stock motor. Is that the one you can an ea82? The next question is if I wanted to upgrade to an ej22 that came out of an auto 1990 legacy would it work or not?

91 Subaru Loyale, smells like exhaust.
It was in a rear collision with the last owner, maybe it is the hatch. They killed the hatch pretty good, but it still openes and closes.

91 Subaru Loyale, smells like exhaust.
Whenever I let my car warm up during the winter or if I leave the care running when I am stationary it smells like exhaust inside. What can I do about it?

91 Loyale wagon, 5 speed, 32mpg?
I thought it was bad to rev them up to 4000 to shift through the gears.

91 Loyale wagon, 5 speed, 32mpg?
ya it has 4wd, what are the shift points, 2500 or 3000? I usually have it going about 45 to 50 mph. I dont drive to much on the highway. My tires could be the problem actually, I have the right size tires, but they are different than the ones I usually see on loyales.

91 Loyale wagon, 5 speed, 32mpg?
I am new to Stickshifts, but I bought a 91 Loyale non-turbo with a 5 speed and every time I talk to someone with one they always tell me that they get about 32 mpg. Maybe it is just me being new to sticks, but I am not getting 32mpg, more like 20 or so. It is mostly in town driving, but I took at trip last week and only got 26 mpg going about 75-80mph. Is there something I am missing? I am not that bad at sticks, I have had it almost a month now.

91 Loyale Wagon, Clock isn't working.
Anyone know what to do if the clock on the dash isn't working? I checked the fuses yesterday and they seem fine. The flashers work and whatever the other thing that is connected to that fuse. Do I just need to tear into the dash and find the cord or is there a easier way?

91 Subaru Loyale 5 speed Wagon, Engine check Light.
Ya, I figured it out, I connected the white and green ones to reset the codes and then it started to tell me the actual code. It was 34 which is the EGR, so we got one from another Subaru, cleared the codes, then started it back up and it works perfectly, even passed the IM test with flying colors. Had to replace almost the whole exhaust system too, had holes all over it. It runs great now.

Subaru'n in Anchorage AK
I love Subaru's and I just found this forum and I am so excited to be a part of this group of people. I am going to try to get a Subaru apprenticeship in town and become a Subaru mechanic. Thanks for this amazing site!

91 Subaru Loyale 5 speed Wagon, Engine check Light.
I was hoping for some help here. I just purchased a 91 Subaru Loyale and the engine check light is on, so I took the bottom part of the dash apart and I found the 02 monitor and made sure all the test connectors were unplugged. I turned the key to the "on" position and I counted the red blinks and it just does 5 short blinks and keeps repeating. Does anyone know what that code is? I disconnected the battery for 30 seconds to reset the codes, and it went away till I turned it off and turned the car back on.
