  1. Look at the Yokahama line. They are running great on the wifes 2000 outback. They also have a money back trial period.
  2. I wasnt asking them to warranty it forever. My biggest problem with the whole mess is: A. Its a problem that was "Patched" up from the beginning. As others have said its like making the fuse longer on the time bomb. B They said they would provide some assistance. I dont think any of the manufactures are the holy grail. From the minute you pull on the lot people swarm you looking to make a buck. I dont trust any of them. As for the car. I will fix it. My wife loves it. I just hoped we wouldnt run into such a mess after a flawless service record. I could swallow it better if I was out beating on the motor and a bearing let loose or something like that. But for an issue that they KNOW is a problem it just gets you that your know paying for it.
  3. I just went through the same this today with my wifes 2000 Outback...I jumped through all of the hoops and came up dry....Luckily I have found a shop with a Subaru Certified Mechanic that will do the headgaskets, engine gaskets, timing belt, and water pump for $850.00..Alot cheaper than the $1500 qoute I got from Subaru not including the water pump.
  4. So my wife called me a few weeks ago sitting on the side of the road with an 2000 Subaru Outback.....I'm a freak about service issues and change the oil every 3000 miles exactly. I tried replacing the thermostat and radiator cap. No luck. I pressure/flow checked the radiator...No luck. Sure enough it turned out to be the head gasket...(Internal Leak from what I can tell). The car has 149,000 on it. Mostly Highway miles. I called Subaru who promply told me that this was one of the problem cars and it did recieve the recall treatment at 76,000 miles. The rep. advised me to take it to a dealer for inspection. I told the lady that I didnt want to face any further charges for a dignosis and asked what would be done. The rep. told me that Subaru has NEVER turned down assistance on the head gasket problems with the Outback and I had nothing to lose. I took it to a dealer that evening. The factory rep. looked at the "PAPERWORK" the next day. The dealer stated that they would only look at the car after charging a diagnosis fee because, "They dont work for free". I called Subaru back today and asked the status of the car. The Rep. told me that they were not willing to help out with the car because of the mileage but would offer me $500 customer loyalty towards a new Subaru. I respectfully stated no thanks and told them this was not what I was told....I realize the car has high miles and is out of warranty but we all know this is a problem child that has been troubling Subaru owners for years. Its a shame they wont step up to the plate and make things right. I have an Infinti with 170,000, a Chevy S-10 pick up with 150,000 miles, and just sold a Honda Accord with 230,000 miles, none of which have had a wrench on them other than normal service. Guess I've had my last Subaru.
  5. We are over the 100K for the warranty work...As far as the Cats I'd like to stick to a factory set up...I've found a few makers on line but thought I'd ask here for feedback before buying
  6. I finally got the codes to replace the Cats on our 2000 Outback. Who has the best price on Catalytic converters today?? Any help would be great.
  7. My wifes 2000 OB recently started leaking on the inside of the drivers side rear cargo window. Has anyone else had this problem??I would imagine its the seal but I dont know why it would leak now. The car hasnt been in an accident. Thanks Gary
  8. We have a 2000 Outback with 94,000 miles and have had ZERO problems with it other than normal tune up maint. stuff. Get one, drive it, and have fun in the snow!!
  9. Dont waste your time fixing a bad sensor on a 2003 vehicle. Check with this place for the best price I've found. (Around $60.00) https://www.1stsubaruparts.com/catalog/default.php I just put one on my wifes 2000 Outback last Saturday. It took about 1/2 hour to do...Very easy. It is located under the airbox and is held down with only one bolt. You remove the air box unbolt the sensor from the motor, unplug the sensor from the wiring harness and do the same in reverse to assemble. Save your $200.00 and have some fun.
  10. I just replaced the knock sensor in my wifes Outback. The dealer wanted over $100 for just the part. I got it from https://www.1stsubaruparts.com/catalog/default.php for about $60.00 delivered. It only took about 1/2 hour to put on. The hardest part is finding out where the little bugger is. Have fun.
