  1. I would still say not worth it to do welded diff even if you have it just for a daily driver we get alot of snow up here where im at and regular four wheel drive gets me around just fine unless your going over the snow and threw the woods to get to work? Just my thoughts I have heard things both ways as far as added wear from using one in a daily driver personally I think its all about how you treat your vehicle if you abuse it your going to break things if you treat it good it will last a long time
  2. Honestly I would say leave it as it is for DD I wouldnt weld the diff just for that and I live in minnesota about an hr and a half north of the twin cities we already have around a foot and a half of snow up here and im still driving around a rusted out eagle vision with front wheel drive till I get everything together to do my brat project (also off topic if anyone has a 120 wirefeed welder they are looking to part with cheap im looking for one to do the body work on my brat)
  3. Thanks for all the great information guys I appreciate it and just for all your information im going to upgrade to the 2.2 with a 5speed and dual range tranny I wouldnt try to roll 31's on a engine as little as whats in there my motorcycle puts out more horse power then my subie does but I still love my subie more
  4. any information on this one it looks pretty wicked and pretty close to what im trying to acomplish with mine outside from the paintjob
  5. Anyone know what size cut out fender flares work best for a 1980 subaru brat im putting a 6" lift in it with 31x10.5 tires on it and it has some rust around the wheel wells already and rather than try to patch it im just going to cut some of the rust and put fender flares on it if anyone knows what size fender flares work best for minor alteration please let me know.
  6. In all honesty that rust is nothing compared to the beauty of a brat im fixing up right now it has rust holes so big I can litterally put my head through them but I will fix it including all suspension and keep it on the road it might cost me a pretty penny but here in minnesota we find somthing we like and we try to keep it alive and improve on it instead of giving up on it its part of the whole minnesota nice thing I think
  7. you want to whip it around buy an old lincoln like 70's they whip around real good
  8. I agree I didnt buy my subie for the snow but I know that if I can push a 93 plymoth acclaim through over a foot of snow in the winter in minnesota then a subaru brat will go through anything I need it to
  9. Thanks for the info I think I will just avoid the place after reading your initial post I googled it and I found alot of bad reviews for the place so I think I will just stay away from it and get my parts from other sources
  10. thats not that bad only about a 6hr drive so would that be a good place for me to find either a 1.8L ea81 with a hi low tranny for my brat project or possibly a 2.2 with a 5spd hi low if I chose to go that route?
  11. Okay im sorta new to subaru's but what exactly is subaru heaven?
  12. That is pretty kewl looking it reminds me of somthing you'd see in the old herby the love bug movie's that I watched when I was a little kid or on classic car shows I watch on sunday's after church theres a guy always looking at micro cars it looks somthing like what he calls a "micro bus" (or mini mini van)
  13. Possibly in northern wisconsin I know we here where I am are expecting snow saturday night into sunday otherwise I wouldnt be hesitent to drive into northern state minnesota or wisconsin right now then again I have lived here my whole life and driven through some pretty nasty blizzard stuff where the snow is so deep your pushing it with your front bumper
  14. I'm just over the boarder in minnesota and the roads arent that bad over here so I guess it would depend on where your going in wisconsin
  15. Very nice I hope she enjoys it my wifes next vehicle is going to be a subaru wheeler too im just not going to tell her that
  16. 850 sounds good for the 6" lift and hubs we will go with that color prefference not really im going to shoot the entire under side of the car with an undercoat type of stuff so just black would be fine if you happen to have any pics of any gen 1 brats you have lifted I would be interested in seeing them if you dont mind e-mailing me some pics to floyd66623@hotmail.com otherwise I look forward to feb to get the lift and hubs from ya

  17. Just out of curiosity how much would it be for a 6" lift instead of 4"? and so you know its disk in front drum in back and I will just have you get the hubs for everything that way I can keep the original ones original incase I need them for some reason

  18. I will get intouch with you somtime around feb to get them from you if thats alright?

  19. I was planning on going with 3.75" backspaced rims and 2.5" spacers the tires are going to be 31x10.5x15 do you still make a 4" lift for the gen 1 or if you dont do you have any plans that I could get a copy of? Also do you or do you know anyone that does the 6 lug conversion? cost for the lift and the 6 lug if you do it? I'm mostly looking to get everything somtime around feburary if that makes any diffrence?

  20. Do you still make a Gen 1 brat lift? If so do you know how much lift I would need to get 31" wongleflute cepeks on it? Im thinking 4-6" of lift? Let me know if you do still make them.

  21. Checked them out it looks awsome hope mine turns out half way as nice as yours I live in minnesota so I have alot of rust around the rear wheels to cut away and new metal to weld in wont have the stamped design of the original wheel humps but it will look pretty smooth when im all done but I hope it comes out half as nice as yours I will post pictures as soon as I figure out how do I have to be a paying member or somthing for that?
  22. I love it very nice I have a 80 brat im doing a complete restore on I would post pictures but I cant figure out how anyways just spent today sandblasting the rust from the wheel wells in back now I have to weld in new metal I hope mine turns out half as nice as yours but im gonna go with synergy green for the paint color
  23. Just putting some random thought into this but is the 1.8L engine with 5spd trans and hi low transfer a direct bolt up for a gen 1 brat or do I need motor mounts trans mounts etc as well im assuming it will fit in the gen 1 space without modifications? Also as im getting further into this project I have parts from the vehicle I dont need anymore the topper that was on it has sun fade but still works, the jump seats with seatbelts the one on the passangers side has a small crack, I also have a set of 5 original rims with 5 good treads on them, and an extra 1.6 ea71 block (not sure of condition) if anyone is interested in any of this stuff let me know make me an offer
  24. I did look maybe im not in the right place exactly but im not finding anything for a gen 1 brat most of the fourms I have found with any info there hasnt been any activity on them for a number of months or better I was hoping to get intouch with the beast i drive he had one listed a while ago that I liked the looks of and wouldnt mind getting one from him otherwise if somone even had the specs for making one they were willing to shoot me a copy of that would be fine too I have the equipment I would be more then happy to make one myself with some specs?
