Awesome, not needing to buy new studs will save me some $$. Any tips on what to use for a socket? Again I know Subaru has their special one but I had herd that you can make a 17 mm work? Thanks for the input guys I really appreciate it. On a side note I'm headed down your way tomorrow djcommie! Wish I could bring braticus but I don't think he'd appreciate a 200 mile trip with leaking gaskets right now.

I've been trying to research on here, haven't come up with an answer yet so I'm gonna shoot this question out there. [Quick story time] So after some searching i finally figured out that a leak I've been experiencing for a couple years has been coming from the oil pan gasket. OK no problem i say to myself, so a couple weeks ago i drain the oil to assess the situation further and find to my surprise.. white creamy floaties (joy!) No big deal right? Since I have to take the engine out anyway I can replace the head gaskets while I'm at it, got some decent metal ones from RockAuto a couple years ago too. Couple people I've been talking to tell me to have the heads re-surfaced, again costly but I'm finally in a position where i can make that work. [End Story] My question is, True or False - I need knew Head Bolts. I have been told that the old ones will be warped and if i get new head gaskets and a resurface that i will want new bolts or it will only be a matter of time before those crack if I put them back in. ALSO can someone explain how to modify a 17mm socket to extract them instead of buying the special Subaru Socket (Or is that really what I need?)

I was under the impression that Weber carbs set the radar off on the emissions test in CA? Course, I don't run a cat on mine... I own a 79' BRAT. The guy that does my smog has help me out a couple times, usually ends up tweaking the mixtures to get it right but I've passed now 3 times since I resurrected Braticus. The mechanic recommended a new EGR valve, but the vaccum on mine seems to work.. maybe it's not strong enough anymore? ...

This would be nice to have one day! So I'm commenting As of right now I'm still trying to get the guts to pull my dash off to see why my heater won't work. I think a linkage on one of the switches broke.

Looks good man! It's come a long way. Gives me hope I love coming to this forum. Makes me wana work more on my 79' Bratticus. You just inspired me to keep working on it instead of spending the money to buy another cheap runner

Ugh, still have nightmares of those clips :/ Like I said the 21" socket seemed to get those clips off best. But overall that plastic is super brittle.

Bonvo Where did you get your stearign wheel cover? I've been looking for one like that and can't figure out where to get one. (course i nice wood one would be sweet too)

I drive a 79 BRAT - ended up having the clock pulled and placed a regular sized stereo deck in that slot, then i have 2 wired 6x9's in boxes behind my seats.. contemplting putting a couple smaller ones in the doors... but i don't really wana tear them up so i probably never will

Ok so bratticus passed CA smog again and a great cheer went up as this time it was after i'd rebuilt the carb and idnt quite have my settings right. While doing the test for the second time my mechanic points out that i need a new EGR valve and probably new air injection filter and unit.. My question is what do you guys do for these parts? I know i can get a 'standard' egr valve, just wondering if theres a better option, also dont know what o do about the air injection parts.

yea... went to look at my Parts car.. and yet again came away astounded, previous owner got to it before it did.. seriously if i had known 2 years ago what to look for i would not have gotten this junker So, sorry can't help you

Ya thanks Datsun for helping me with that. Here's how the rest of that week went down. Went to the Junker, had Trouble loosening the screws off of the firewheel, they have ridges that hold the in the plastic i think i stripped em. So i took a grinder to it since i had an extra screw THIS was almost a bad idea... just about melted the plastic mount AGAIN, luckily it only melted a little. Also turns out 19 mm is too small..? weird cuz we definiely used a 19mm 12 point at your shop. 21mm seem's to work just fine though. While putting the posts back on i couldn't quite get the metal arms lined up right, so when i turned on the wipers to test, it pulled the plastic cap right off the metal ball. (at this point i asked if u were open last Sat.) .. i went to ace and picked up a Socket for myself instead. This turned out to be a good thing, since i broke one of the arms off the piece i pulled off the junker, AND it didnt turn as smoothly as i would have liked. I was able to re-grease the ball and plastic cap, and swith the cap for a clean, intact one. Second attempt everything went together smoothly, figued out i had to mount the posts first then attach the metal arms. ALSO Datsun helped me figure out how to remove my door paneling.. sure easy enough but i could not figure out for the life of me where that clip for the window crank was. I was able to replaced my broken window crank AND figure out if i put a little grease on the back side of the window it would stop binding and gettign stuck before closing all the way. (the original reason the crank broke) Bratticus is road worthy once more, now on to replaceing the wheels with some nice aluminum ones i pulled of junker (found out this weekend they polish up good with some spinning steel ) and get the seats cleaned up/ restuffed Thanks again Datsun for your help!

I Should have one on a parts car, that is if its not broken like everything else i go to look for on it.. Any tips on how to get it off?

How are you painting you wheels?

a while back i went and bought some really thing rubber washers to fit in between the shaft and the surrounding metal... couldn't get them to fit So my next idea is to find some spare gasket material and slide it in there... What i really want is for my shifter to stop sounding like a rattle snake, hopfully that would help
