  1. This car wasn't well maintained by the previous owner, so I doubt that he took it in to have the watercooling option installed :-/ I am just trying to get some ideas of what could be the problem before I tear into the motor tonight. So far, I think I am just stuck with taking all the hoses/elbows off between the aircleaner & the turbocharger in order to see if there are any hoses below that.
  2. I know that the turbocharger is on the passenger side & according to... this image, the turbocharger is oil cooled. Granted I only see an oil return pipe, but... That still doesn't explain why I would have coolant running out near the rear of the motor. :/
  3. Driving to work, my 1983 Subaru GL Turbo wagon took a crap on itself. I pulled over after I saw a white cloud of steam billowing from behind my car. I popped the hood and all I could see was coolant leaking from somewhere on the passenger side of the motor. After further inspection, I noticed that there was a stream of coolant coming out of the back-side of the motor on the passenger side. It looks like it's coming from a bolt that holds turbo-charger on, but that doesn't make any sense. I consulted a chilton's, but it's too vague & there isn't enough diagrams. Does anyone have experience with this? Is there some hidden coolant hose near the back-passenger side of the motor?
  4. Does anyone out there have the front passenger door glass for an 83 gl wagon for next to nothing or free? My subaru was broken into this weekend and they weren't kind to the window. It ended up in small squares all over the inside of my car I found it used for $50-$55 locally or nearly $300 new :-/ Thanks!

First off, I'd like to say that I'm new here & I am really glad to find a site that exists for older Subaru’s Some specs on my Subaru: 1983 GL Turbo Wagon 1800 / Automatic Transmission Now, for the problem (among many others I will probably post about): My Subaru has issues going in reverse & shifting into third unless the motor is warmed up (usually past the first "block" on the temperature gauge). Is there a fix for this kind of problem... ie: a transmission rebuild kit. Do I need to find a replacement transmission? I've searched & called around junk yards around this area, but no one has a transmission that would fit this year/model. I Live in the south-eastern part of Washington & if anyone has a transmission that would fit this year/model & is selling for a reasonable price, feel free to respond. If you have any ideas, those would be appreciated as well. Thanks!
