  1. what engine? in my 93 leg 2.2 i stripped a bolt hole in what i thought was the block under the a/c. but it was a bracket that bolted to the block behind the tensioner. the bracket bolt was for one of the pulleys. the whole face of the block and head is level across there when putting the tensioner on. maybe the bolt holes are raised slightly.
  2. here is what i did with my 2.2 in my 93 legacy. i got a damper froma 1.8 imprza and use dit. it slooked exactly the same except for the timing mark was in a different place. so i t took muy angle grinder and made a quick grind mark onthe pull in the correct location for my timing mark. i then uesd white out to paint the new mark. the thing about dampers vs baalncers. is a damper onyl dampens crankshaft vibrations on internally balanced engines. a balancer is a balancer and is used to externally balance and engine. a flywheel may also be used to help balance an engine with a crank balancer. and or the flywheel can do it all too. you can usually tell a balancer will have the soild part as half of it there and half of it not there. and or may even have holes drilled into the solid part of the balancer. a damper is just one piece of steel then the rubber and then the pulley around the rubber. if the rubber becomes dried and cracked it can let the pull slip and show the engine out of time when it isnt. enough about that. i hope this helps you get a new damper for your engine. i am going to have my damper welded and turned so i can reuse it if needed some day.
  3. i wondered if that was the power steering pump bracket mount or not.
  4. jbweld it and maybe jb weld will pay you for advertisement rights. i like the lexan approach. that would be cool. just like a model wankel engine. is this at the bellhousing? i think i can see the firewall.
  5. i like the idea of it. but i would have to get a very close inspection of it before even driving it. unibody car use the roof as part of the unibody structure. and if the roof is removed the structure of the car is comprimised and has to be dealt with if the roof is removed. reminds me of a baja. throw the cooler out. install a crossover toolbox. as far as the rear wall of the cab. that better be water tight too. thats a sure way to rust out a car or damage the carpet fast. i didnt see a video link anywhere.
  6. dosnt sound like it. myself thats the only thing i would trade mine in for. is another subaru. these cars are very hard to stop.
  7. let me say so far thanks for all the help so far. on sunday the cooler hose for the trans blew and lost more fluid. and the trans now slips going forward. great. so it isnt being driven again. but reverse came back. so if my wife could learn to drive backwards at 55mph. we wouldnt have a worry. yeah right. anyway i guy emailed me asking if a 98 forester trans would work for me. from the link about a 98 trans is a phase 2 and would need wiring and computer. but it was also stated above about resistors to fool the computer. what size resistors. what would each one hook to and all of that. i barely know what as resistor is. it limits voltage.
  8. what generically will i need? i know i will need awd manual trans. shifter linkage clutch pp and disc also the slave cylinder and clutch pedal. what else? driveshaft? computer. the front ratio doesnt matter right now. i can figure that out easily enough.
  9. i have seen other cars such as impreza to part out. will these fit? such as a97? will it bolt up? then maybe i can deal with the sensor stuff.
  10. next question. why is this transmisson so limited in only the 90-94 legacys? what changed in 95? was it just a sensor? and or how that sensor plugged in? what? some of the duty solenoids maybe?
  11. they are probably a slight press fit. and can be removed by wiggling them. that is how slight of a press fit they probably are.
  12. well duh. i went to you tube and watched a couple of videos i guess it just unscrews from the rack. thats all i needed to know. unless there is something specific about the subaru i should know.
  13. before i done my timing belt last year. i went over to you tube and started watching videos of how it was done. here is the link to soem of them i watched. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=subaru+timing+belt+replacement this is what i really watched first was the water pump replacement videos. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=subaru+timing+belt+replacement
  14. i agree it could just be a dirty / bad switch. you could test if its dirty switch by testing power going into and coming from the switch. you will have to remove the switch and connect testors to it. and see which side is the hot side and which side isnt. turn the switch on. with key on of course. and see if power goes out of the switch from the side with no power when turned off. on my 93 there is a control box behind the glove box mounted on the kick panel. if i remember right it is for the a/c control. but i could be wrong.
  15. 93 legacy awd 2.2 auto 4dr sedan. my drivers side tie rod end is bad. yes the boots are ripped. when are they not on a used car. anyway can anyone give me the steps to replace the drivers side inner tie rod end. basically how does it come off of the steering rack. is it threaded does it pop out? the car just left. so i cant look at anything until 5 pm today. but it is bad for sure. you can see it move inside of the socket.
  16. my legacy 2.2 has near 289,00 on it. i just put a water pump and timing belt on it in the last year. if the transmission wouldnt have gotten damged as to others fault. it would probably go alot longer like it is.
  17. 2000 for a 1984? have you checked with kbb.com or nada.com on its value?
  18. yea i have not even half a load of scrap in my truck right now. i am probably goign to go down there tommorrow and dump what i have inmy turck. i hate having that stuff just sit in there. i do try to seperate my metals. auto cast vs shread. and aluminum as well as copper wiring.
  19. i have considered a manual. she can drive it. i need to strip a whole car to get all the parts though.
  20. i'm not sure what car yo uhave but. the legacy manual says to warm the car up put the trans in all gears. put ift back in park and check the stick. it should read to the full mark when top full warm. i assume it may read half full mark when cold.
  21. all he said was the crank pulley came off. i dont have a place to store the car to part it out. i have 9 other cars trucks and vans. i have to get rid of two frames and two vans soon. i am loosing my storage place. my garage is packed full of stuff i cant seem to sell because of what ever reason. i just got awy from craigslist. i have been on there most of the afternoon. i found a trans in arkansas a couple of cars in sw misouri and 1 in oklahoma. and about a million new car dealer ads. scrap is 175.00 a ton here. i dont know what a legacy weighs with or without the engine or transmsision. and or fuel tank and tires. i could possibly ebay some of the small parts from it. but they are gettign older. who knows. these cars are hard to find. and the prices arent super cheap when you do find the parts.
  22. i have a 93 legacy 2.2 at awd. my wife is a subaru fan. but she also said a ext cab ford ranger would be good for her too. well that gas mileage isnt as good. and they are as reliable as subaru. so what subaru can i buy. that i can either swap in my 93 engine or use parts from the 93 on what other car? i have always loved the bajas. and i found one for sale at a dealer. too bad its yellow over silver. but color isnt a bad thing. what should i be looking for. transmission type doesnt matter. awd would be preferred. i really dont want a car that has had lots of common break downs in the past. i would prefer that the car isnt a one of a kind engine to swap in. i do not want a 6 cyl. i woul dalso prefer that it uses the same size tires i have now. 185/75/14 i think is the size. several years ago we were going to buy a brand new outback . and we should have i guess. i just couldnt get over the cost and payments they offered. but we ended up in about the same boat with the mini van we bought and then it went to heck. then we bought this subaru. it came all the way from colorado. well what is the best replacement used subaru to buy? what year. what model? color doesnt matter. i'm going to inquire about that baja anyway. and i saw a 90-94 legacy i already emailed about.
