  1. So this is a great thread to help with replacing the VC but the pics aren't showing up. Anyway to get those pics up again?
  2. So I am needing some suggestions on where to find a good used VC as I don't have that much cash to fix the car. I am unable to locate any on the internet. Where did all of you that fixed your VC get yours? What years are compatible with my 1990 Legacy. If I can't get this fixed soon the car is going to have to go. I need your help.
  3. Well it has been quite some time since I bought the car and it's been great. I am needing to replace the VC now and Im wondering if anyone has any photos or video of the repair being done. Where do you find these things? I'm searching and can't find them listed anywhere. This is not looking good.... What years are compatible with my 1990 legacy? I'm going to search some more for this part.
  4. Yeah I figured it wasn't normal. Well the tires are all the same size and normal tread wear. And it is a manual trans. So what could cause "torque bind"? The car is a "full time 4WD" is what it says on the dash and the rear of the car. I'm not familiar with Subaru's or newer cars in general as my real passion is air cooled VW's. Thanks for the help so far
  5. Hi guys I just bought a 1990 legacy that has the EJ22 motor and is full time 4WD. I've got a few questions about the car. 1: I noticed that when I turn sharp that the car slows down to a stop really quick like the front wheels are stopping it almost. Or when driving and turning sharp it's like the front wheels are skipping. Is the Subaru front wheel dominant or rear wheel dominat for the 4WD? Or is it a 50-50 distribution of power? So I was just wondering if this is normal? 2: How wide of a tire can I run under it? I've found some 205/70r14 snow tires for a fair price but don't want to get them if they are too wide for the car. Thanks!!
  6. Ok so you mentioned that the oil pan bolts get loose but to save the ones in the back for when the motor is pulled? Does that mean you can't change the oil pan gasket with the motor in? And the cam tower gaskets, can you change those with the motor in? So are those the only few places to look for with the leak on this car? The pan was wet when I looked at it. And the leak where ever it was coming from was hiring the exhaust after driving and smoking a bit. I just don't want to get into far over my head with the car. I'm used to working on my aircooled vw's but the Subaru is a different animal.
  7. Ok so I went and looked at the Subaru a few days ago and it drove well and the motor ran well but it had a pretty bad oil leak. It was leaking around the pan area/ back of the motor. I took it for a test drive and when I got back it was dripping on the exhaust and smoking a bit from the oil leak. So I couldn't tell where the leak was coming from and I'm wondering if that might be a common area to leak or if the pan gasket is an easy fix or? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance!!
  8. hey guys im new to subarus and am currently looking at an 88 gl wagon with 4x4. its a little over 200k in miles but runs good and everything works between the trans and 4 wheel drive. it has the motor with the single point FI. I am wondering if these motors run a timing belt. if so, i would change it as the owner doesnt know. is it hard to change the timing belts in these? i have done standard inline 4 cylinders before but never a subaru. any help or things to look for with problems that are common with these cars would be appreciated. thanks in advance.
  9. ok so there is another subaru here on the local craigslist in spokane and im needing second opinions on it also. i just dont know enough about subarus. heres a link to the ad its an 88 justy and im wondering if there worth looking at? thanks again http://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/2321757488.html i think im going to pass on the other car with the trans problem just don't feel like tackling that big of a project.
  10. Well from what the guy told me is he was driving home and the trans/diff went clunk and he was able to drive it home I was kinda thinking that meant the trans was possibly done for also. I guess there is oil leaking from the trans also. I don't know about this now
  11. Hi everyone I'm looking to buy an 87 gl turbo a local guy has for $350 with 137000 miles the only thing is he says that the front diff went out while driving home and was able to limp it home but now it won't move but the motor still runs really well. He said the local wrecking yard has a replacement for $50. I am wondering the front diff is inside the transmission right? So if the front diff went can you replace the front diff and the transmission still be in good running order? Basically would the car be worth my while? Thanks Dan
