Sticking solely to cars, I've been a Subaru fan since way back in my high school days. However, I've owned a variety of other makes. In all I've owned 14 cars: Two Outbacks, One Forester, and Two Brats.

  1. Here are a couple more recent pics of the Forester up in Cooks Forest, PA, around New Years.
  2. Headlight blackout has a lot of appeal, and a spare tire carrier is definitely in the cards as well. Not sure when, but that'll happen.
  3. Thanks. Thought of a lift, or at least the saggy butt spacer at the very least. I also thought of maybe some driving lights on top of the push bar (since that and looks is all its good for), but figured that might be overkill.
  4. Introducing my 2010 Forester 2.5X 5MT. I've had her since new and have slowly been adding to it. So far I've added an STi's front and rear sway bars, PIAA fog lights, sport grill, push bar, side trim on doors, roof basket and Thule bike rack, 16x7 rims with General Grabber AT tires, and Class 3 Curt hitch, in addition to slightly upgraded audio inside. I'd like to upgrade the exhaust to something with more Subaru burble allowed, and perhaps skid plates. After that probably not much. Any other suggestions?
  5. Unfortunately I can't tell you much. The tires are 225/75 R15 and are Uniroyal Liberator A/Ts. But if you can fit that size under your GL (the fitment is very close and clearly there was some fender messaging going on to make it work), then I would get a set of Mickey Thompson MTZs. I have them on my Jeep and they are simply unstoppable. Very drivable on-road, as well. As far as the rims I have no idea. I don't like them, though. They don't seat very well and are relying on the lug nuts only. Will be looking into other options once I get it running.
  6. I thought I would keep my 3AT in as well. Then 3rd gear went. Optimism isn't enough to save these things:-)
  7. I bought member Dylan86GL10's 1986 wagon - previously FirstSubaruGLwagon's Das Poopinwagon. I haven't done anything with it yet except cleaned it up a little bit. I have the megasquirt being looked at now. Hopefully with that and a few other things I'll have this up and running. This has tons of potential, but it's definitely a project. Looking forward to seeing what it can do. This is officially Subaru #7 for me. Right now I currently have an 83 Brat "Johnny 5" and a 2010 Forester. Took a family photo:-)
  8. Hey guys, I'm thinking of picking up a second project to play with, but this one would be well past what I've ever tinkered with before. Never really done any heavy duty engine work. Basic tune-up stuff, exhaust, suspension, brakes, even minor body work okay, but never a real build. A guy is selling this 86 GL and I'm thinking of making the purchase. I've owned a few Brats, a couple Outbacks and my current Forester. My question is, what am I getting in to? http://norfolk.craigslist.org/cto/4039900427.html What would you say its worth?
  9. Well, the question of whether to keep the 3AT or swap in a manual has been rendered moot. Another 3AT has given up the ghost. Lost 3rd gear. Nursed it home about 20 miles away, though. So no complaints from me. I know the popular thing to do is swap in the 5MT D/R, but the 4MT D/R is considerable easier, right? What all will I need for that, aside from transmission, pedals, interior console?
  10. Rust, rust, and more rust. What got me on my 83 Brat is the rear subframe. The common areas weren't bad, but crawl up underneath and check where the rear cross member bolts up.
  11. Thanks! I really like it - not as much as an 82 that I had for a while. But this is a great car and I'm just happy to have saved it.
  12. Now with some 14" pugs. I painted them white for the rally look. Looks phenomenal. Last update of the exterior for a while, though. Once I get some money saved up I'll start replacing the subframe.
  13. I agree. I'm just going to do what I'm not very good at, which is be patient. I do know a good welder, but fabrication is 'a whole nother' (bringing out some Pittsburghese) ballgame. I'm going to start saving some money. It runs and drives sooooo well. And only one owner? Can't let it go.
  14. Here are some pictures of the work that needs done. Probably a good 2k of work at least. The rear crossmember, holding the rear diff, is being held up by a wire hanger on one side, and completely rusted away sub-frame. The frame rail just ahead of that doesn't look much better. The front looks pretty good, and even the floor boards aren't too bad. Rockers will need replaced as well. These pictures don't do it much justice. She's a beauty otherwise, though.
