  1. Anybody point me to an existing discussion about an HID headlight conversion process/parts/kit for the 1998 Outback, or describe the possibilities for upgrading the factory headlights to much brighter types? Am tech savvy, electrical savvy, mechanical savvy -- fire away -- I'll grok! Subeedoo
  2. On my 1998 Outback wagon, it is located under the console. To access the switch, you will need to remove the two Phillips screws, located just under the console armrest lid, which attach the center plastic of the console to the bin/armrest section of the console. Next, remove the two Phillips screws of the shifter handle, located near the bottom of the shifter handle -- one on each side -- and lift the shifter handle up and off of the shifter stalk. Finally, you may need to move the emergency brake handle up a bit, so that you can lift out the center section of the console -- start by picking up on the end under the console lid, which will allow the center section to pivot up on the front, by the radio. Lift this center console section off, and you will see the switch just below the now removed shifter indicator (IIRC) -- it has a plug and wires attached. Careful, the shifter handle screws are very short, and are quite easy to lose! Subeedoo
