  1. Thank you!!! There are differences between front and rear 4WD hubs. Got it! Now to get that project started...
  2. Can't seem to find an answer. I'm getting things in order for a rear disc swap on my '84 BRAT. I know that I need 4WD hubs. Are the ea81 front 4WD hubs the same as the ea82 rear 4WD hubs?
  3. What did you end up doing with that push bar?
  4. Life can be a real kick in the balls, man. Sorry to hear about that. What's the bare minimum you need to get it started? Is this your only car?
  5. Use the search function and look in the performance area. Every conceivable question you may have has been answered on here in great detail.
  6. I run Hercules Raptis 185/70/13 on my '84 BRAT. Were about $80 each. They work just as a tire should.
  7. The body and most of the interior is in good shape. It is the donor vehicle fo the BRAT. Rockers are rusted, but the rest of the body is solid. One mismatched fender. Front seats are shredded. Dash is perfect. Motor is shot. Has AC and power steering. Wheels are ok. Winshield is cracked. Other glass is perfect. I would love to rebuild it is well, but it just isn't practical for me. I hate to destroy another old Subaru, but if it puts the BRAT back on the road, I'm happy. I will also find good homes for EVERYTHING but the main body and frame. Nothing will be wasted!
  8. Totally. I am addressing all of the rust and rest on the body, but am going to leave that panel for now. I have a line on one in the same color, just low on the priority list.
  9. I definitely don't want to do any "hillbilly" repairs on this thing, but after more reading on here, it looks like I may be able to notch out the strut mount bolt holes so the strut will slide inward. I'm liking this idea. Hmmm. This might be ok. I'll have to play with the strut adjustment and torsion bar adjustment. I may throw some non-adjustable struts in there that should lower the front end an inch. So many things to consider! Haha.
  10. Yes... But the donor metal is beat up too. And tan. Trying not to do any painting in this stage.
  11. I will go with those if I can snag 'em from turbosubarubrat. The lift won't be an issue because of the adjustable struts. I'll just clock 'em down an inch. I am starting to understand camber better. I don't think different springs will "magically" fix anything, but they will help my worn out suspension. I've started looking at adjustable camber plates. What route did you go? Something like this?
  12. If you are turning hard on a corner with some speed, your springs are compressing and the body is rolling. Considering mine are probably original and bouncy as hell, I want something new or stiffer and used. I don't want to go with camber plates. Too many other mods to think about right now.
  13. Welcome to the forum. Were like pictures in these here parts, so get snappin'! -Muffler: just buy a new one. You gan choose from a huge array. Depends on the sound you are looking for. My brand new stock muffler was $100 installed. I am switching to a Cherry Bomb, though. -Check Craigslist or post in the "Want" section for wheels. Those should bee real cheap or free. -Side Panels? Do you mean the front fenders or doors or quarter pannels? Those won't be easy to find in good shape. -Tires: Not many options. You can get 175/70/R13 or a little bigger 185/70/R13. Check with your tire shops, but I would order online and have them mounted locally. Use the site Row52 to search junk yards near you. Also, download and read How to Keep Your Subaru Alive.
  14. Absolutely! THANK YOU! If it weren't for USMB, I would never even have my BRAT. Bravo! Tickle me interested. I think I'll wait on a full suspension upgrade as the cost of my build has gotten waaay out of hand. Definitely interested in the springs, though. What I want is a slightly stiffer rider up front so I can handle corners better. I am keeping the stock adjustable struts, but replacing the inserts. I wouldn't mind a spring that's maybe an inch taller as I will clock them down with the strut, so I don't want to go too stiff. Thank you! Just what I was looking for. I really need to find a FSM.
  15. I read that post a few times and it never mentioned anything about an Ea81. That's why I needed the final word if Ea82 springs would fit an Ea81 strut. Now i know for sure just how many options I (we) have! Thanks on another great thorough write up!
  16. Thanks for the info. "Basically" just won't do. I want to know for sure, hopefully from someone who has swapped springs. I hope that doesn't sound rude! I have seen a chart on here, but it didn't cover Ea81. If you find a chart I haven't seen, please share!
  17. I have searched and read every thread I can find and still can't pinpoint an answer. What front springs will fit into Ea81 cars? Will Ea82 springs fit? I know that the BRAT springs are the tallest. I know that RX springs fit. There are a ton of great write ups about Ea82 springs and suspension, but not so much on Ea81's. I have a 1984 BRAT GL and would like to replace the front springs when I replace the struts. A stiffer ride would be ideal, but a fresh set of springs would do the trick.
  18. Delta Cams miiight have something for you on hand. You could also buy a junk motor and send the cam to Delta and have them make you something better than new.
  19. That was me! Wish I would have read this thread way back, but I missed it. I still have the "Heavy Metal" sticker on the tailgate. It's never coming off. I hope all is well!
  20. I'm assuming this is a stock Ea81 with a Hitachi carb. If it runs great once started, I doubt it's the pump. Check the cold idle adjustment screw. Also check BOTH fuel filters. Especially the one right by the pump.
  21. The current fuel door is original. I like the look of the bulky chrome door. Probably gives you +5hp too.
