  1. The head can drilled and tapped for the oil return. Retard the timing 5 degrees, leave the boost stock. I did this to an 86 xt na engine that had 165k miles on it. I ran it over 45k miles before any problems. Good luck, Ogordon
  2. I prefer visegrips myself , I've never had one fall off . ogordon
  3. I would take a close hard look at the themostat. Sounds like it is stiking after setting for a while and then starts working again after beinb overheated. ogordon
  4. Does the turbo block for the 82t have the oil jets for cooling the pistons like the ej series turbo engines? If so this would be a good reason to stick with the turbo block.
  5. I am running a mpfi from an 88xt , now with turbo. I set base timing at 15 degrees and run 94 octane. I have it in a 90 loyal 4w-4sat running stock boost. I tried it in a 85 wagon 4smt with 12 lbs boost ,it ate a head, ported itself around the exhaust seat. So far 12k miles no probs. Daily driver 64 miles rt to work.
  6. See if you can a Luk. I ran one behind an 88XT nt 9.5 cr turbo,12 PSI untill I holed a head. about 200 miles. It still had a readable part no. on the diskwhen i pulled it apart. I am now running the engine in a 89 auto awd 12k since Jan. Btw the xt engine had 165000 on it when I put turbo on it
  7. hello, the ecu for the non turbo does not have provision for knock detector ,if turbo car has seperate kd unit you should be ok
  8. Check to see if the pin is sheared in the drive gear ,used to be a prob in older cars. Good luck
  9. Back to the wheels ,I have used the spoked wheels from the 80 on up to the 88. Used a belt sander on the face of the caliper where the wheel rubbed with new pads.
