  1. Thanks for all the replies so far. Might consider a delaership (have a few SubaruBucks to use), but was looking for an independent mechanic. Looks like I need to replace the front axles, both boots torn for a while now. 84FF, yes he PM'd when I asked years ago on this forum about a local, but I forgot his name and lost the PM. Maybe he will see this. Not looking for a hand out either, just want an honest and knowledgeable mechanic.
  2. As the title states, anyone know a good Suby Mechanic in the Philly area. Thanks in advance.
  3. Original owner of a 1996 Legacy GT Sedan with 116,500 miles on original HG and no signs of any issues with the HG.
  4. I have had this happen several times on my soob. Open the brake fluid reservoir and check the top of the lid to see if the rubber bladder is pushed out. If so, just push it back in.
  5. Thanks for the reply. Got under it today, boot is torn. Thanks again. John
  6. Need some advice, appears I am having the problems explained in this old thread: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=37894&highlight=crunching Had the clunk coming from the drivers front end, now it is a crunching sound. Can't do this myself. How much should this cost to fix, is this something any mechanic can do or should I seek out one that works mostly on Subaru's and is the car safe to drive? Thanks in advance John
  7. Resurrecting this old thread as I picked up that Cen-Tech OBD II Code Reader yesterday from Harbor Freight. It is on sale right now for $39.99 and I used a 15% off coupon. Don't have a code to read at the moment on the Ru, but it links with the ECU to tell me "no codes" so it appears to work. I also used it to read and clear codes from my Dad's Dodge Caravan.
  8. This has happened to me since owning my 96GT, but I never noticed that it is due to a low tank, it seems to me that the pump nozzle has to be pushed as far into the filler tube as possible to avoid it shutting off.
  9. Original owner of a 1996 Legacy GT with the infamous 2.5L, have close to 110,000 miles now with the only non-wear item I have replaced is the knock sensor. Still original head gasket and wheel bearings. Timing belt was done at 60k by dealer (before I knew it was due at 105K).
  10. JPX, Did you ever resolve this knock? This sounds exactly like what I have had for at least 2 years and 18k miles now with my 96 2.5L. Thanks John
  11. Yes, actually the molding goes all around the bottom of the car. Must only be on the GT's then. Here is a good pic from an Ebay auction for a 98GT that shows the molding, click on pic to enlarge:
