  1. Did your motor just die too? Haha, mines also about shot and I'm currently debating EA82 replacement versus doing a Ej22 swap. Obviously it's a conspiracy. Engines go on sale- ours die..... EDIT: In all seriousness though, I am actually getting very frustrated with my GLs engine. Could you guys recommend a good outfit to do an engine swap or replacement? I ask because am in an apartment these days and swapping it myself would be an issue.
  2. WUH?!? Somebody makes a spring that will by design fit my GL?! SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY! No seriously, I still don't have my freaking suspension sorted out and I am very interested. Have a link?
  3. Copy that, I'll make it hapen, thanks for advice. On a side note the belts got to replace mine are wrong as well. the A/C, WP, .. something else belt is too short. Its fun times! I'll crack this baby yet.
  4. Welp, I got a 94 Nissan Maxima alternator, built by duralast - part # 14661 at autozone. It doesnt fit, there's some bushing in the mount that wont fit into mah car. I would consider filing it to fit except the plug is wrong as well and well, this is looking bleak. pic of the offending part: in summery- the 94 year model alternator seems to be a no go.
  5. I'm back! I have been slowly whittling away at my new/old GL and have hit a bit of a wall, I replaced to the temp sensor and IACV because it idled MUCH too low when cold. I have created an interesting problem in doing so. The situation: When cold, the car idles low, around 500-700 RPM, wont start/ stay running without me keeping a toe on the gas pedal to raise the revs. Once warm the car idles high. Like... 1500-2000 RPM high. Now, by my reconning the car is doing exactly the opposite of what it should be doing. Do you guys have any idea what would cause this? I checked the search, but saw nothing that fits my circumstances. Thanks!
  6. I ran engine codes on my GL today, the prognosis is bleak. The good news is after another ... 600 dollars worth of parts to get the engine running correctly then all I will need to do is completely rebuild my suspension, interior and replace some stuff on the outside of the car. GOOD PROJECT!
  7. Well, I set to doing bearings to fix the drumming my GL was making (yeah, just getting around to it. I can procrastinate) . pulled the wheel off to find this: Yeah, that is not a cotter pin and the nut was on hand tight. That explains SO MUCH! I pulled the corner apart enough to know I need new ... everything , so I ordered new wheel end and axle stub and put it all back together only tighter. I'll fix this damn car yet.
  8. ok- I'm all straightened out now! Got genuine Subaru wheel bearings/seals for all four corners of my little car today! This weekend I will finally get that drumming fixed. I also have some ignition components on the way and the little GL should run like a sewing machine... a leaky sewing machine!
  9. wow, mine is doing the exact same thing- must be an '88 thing or something. I cleaned my MAF and throttle body and that helped some as well, so you might want to clean those if you havent already- didn't outright fix the problem, but it did help somewhat for me... maybe that plus this air thing theyre talkingabout will fix that right up.
  10. You are awesome! I just bought a '88 GL Wagon with SPFI and 4wd as well! Coencidently you want to do mor or less the same stuff to yours that I do mine- this makes us some sort of spiritual twins. Good luck with your project and welcome!
  11. I changed the oil in my GL today! Also I decided the GL will be hereafter referred to as "The Rock". I also changed the gas struts on the rear hatch; this provided two benefits: one it no longer attempts to knock me unconscious while I root around in the back-end, and two, it makes that great deloren door opening "imma gas strut extending" hiss sound. I love that sound. Next up I'm going to hunt down a vacuum leak that has my engine idling all wonky.
  12. Is that a spring for the front or rear? Also these spring dimensions being thrown around are for the 4WD Ea82, yeah? Sorry, but between 2WD/4WD , front or rear ... honda, tempo, intrepid - I've become quite lost and I happen to be in the market for springs on all corners I am attempting to get this cleared up (plan B is taking the springs off and measuring them, but what a hassle.)
  13. read that, very nice info, but it's a bit confusing in places. for instance, it leaves a bit of doubt in my mind as to which accord springs fit which GL (I think its front accord to rear GL ... but in the 2WD or 4WD?) and I have no idea at all about which Tempo springs fit a 4WD GL at all. EDIT: Discovered to PO is a bit of a liar, the rear berarings, which he claims to have had redone are REALLY gone and the freaking half inch of play in the wheel is the noise I've been hearing. At least, I hope that's all the noise.
  14. I'm making a list of things to fix/replace that'll hopefully fix the sound up (and generally improve the subby) I'm going to have the exhaust replaced next week. I have ordered new shocks and I am currently trying to find springs that fit, in another thread they said the springs from an 89 Honda Accord with AC work, is that front and rear? As for the possible axel gubbery- I have a buddy that used to do front end work for a living and I have him coming over to poke at that. So I'll get this bad boy all fixed up.
  15. Yes, there is some slight wheel shake as well- nothing violent or anything, just that kind of "i ran over a joint in the pavement" kind of ... nudge, that goes with the tempo of the drumming. It tracks straight as an arrow though. Shocks, yes the shocks are all completely worn out- I have some KYB Excel G shocks ordered. I cannot find the model number to put gas adjusts on all corners , so the Gs should work- they'll sure be better than the blown out things on the machine currently. Now that it is brought to my attention: Yeah, that axel does look a little wierd. I'm going to run some errands and let it warm up, this afternoon I'll take better pictures and post those.
