  1. 86 GL10 Fan hit the radior I believe while I was accelerating. I came out to a pool of coolant under my bumper the next morning. Could my motor have shifted forward while under load because something is worn? Any input would be appreciated. also suggestions on aftermarket radiators or should i try to get an oem if possible? Thanks!! Lee
  2. So I spliced a new disconnect on to the temp sender wire and my gauge reads until I hit a certain temp and the light goes away(digi dash). Im considering an aftermarket sensor and gauge. Any other tips would be awesome. Thanks!! Lee
  3. I replaced the coolant temp sending unit but sure enough found that the single spade connector was barely hanging on by a thread which is probably why i get intermittent readings. Is this wire easy to find a replacement for or should I attempt to splice a new single spade connector onto the existing wire. Also I resealed my thermostat housing with a paper gasket lightly coated in thermostat specific RTV and the f*cker started leaking again first from the back side and then from the bolts. Pointers on what I should do different are appreciated. Thanks! Lee
  4. naru2 Thanks for the prompt response. So it’s the one under the T-stat in my second photo? Thanks again!
  5. Hey friends, Recently replaced the water pump and thermostat on my 86 GL10 MPFI. I let my buddy do the thermostat while I tinkered with other things and after a few days of driving I noticed it was leaking coolant from the t-stat housing so I will have to reseal that. I’ve also noticed the temp reading on the dash comes and goes. I was going to replace the sensor that controls this but after reading through a bunch of threads Im still confused which sensor it is and is it possible I may just get away with cleaning up really well instead of replacing since it does read the temp some times. I’m pretty positive it isn’t the sensor coming straight off of the top of the t stat housing. I noticed one right below the t stat housing with a single tab. Any help is much appreciated. Lee
  6. Thanks for the responses! At least I have some where to start. I’ll be sure to post what I find...once it stops snowing. Gotta love fall in Montana! At least the hunting is good.
  7. So I finally got around to putting 1.5” spacers on my 86 gl10 that has a 2 inch lift both on the motor and on the transmission. The car has not been. run since the install. I noticed as I was installing coolant started leaking on Driver side. It is dripping from timing belt cover. Any input is mush appreciated! I have never had this thing overheat on me
  8. Seems like If I want to use the 05 forester top hats I bought I’d have to get different springs. My springs seem to wide at the top to seat properly.
  9. Would 225/60/16's fit on this set up with out rubbing? Thanks Leebo
  10. Ok, so ill return the rear struts i bought and buy some 99 outback kyb's along with some oem forester top hats for the rear. i will keep the front struts i ordered and use my legacy springs all around. this will allow me to put the 225 60 16 tires on there. Thanks for the response Gloyale!
  11. I think I have read every thread that has anything to do with this topic but I could still use some clarification. I have a 95 Legacy L wagon with worn out struts. I wanted more clearance so I ordered some 05 forester KYB struts. I think this maybe was a mistake. First question: Will I need to order springs in the front/rear or both to fit the Forester struts to avoid the saggy butt ive read about? Second question: Should I have just ordered outback struts instead and reused my legacy springs? There is a set of 225 60 16 toyos on wheels from a 2002 outback that are in great shape on craigslist near me, which set up would work best with these wheels? As always thanks for the help with such a redundant topic.
  12. Yeah Im buying it. I love the all time 4wd feel. The thing really gets up and goes compared to my 95. I did try to convice my wife to take my 95. She is not really keen on learning how to drive a manual even though I told her it's safer in the winter. She loves her little Toyota Celica. Insert puke emoji. Thanks for the input!
  13. I own an 86 GL10 with a d/r fwd tranny and a 2" lift. (needs some love but what subie doesnt) about 180k on both motor and tranny. I also own a 95 Legacy L 5spd with aobut 196k that burns oil pretty bad, but the AC works which is nice in the summer. I have the chance to buy a 93 Legacy alltime 4WD with 185k for about $700. The AC doesnt work and the blower motor only blows high for the heat. My wife may kill me if i bring home another Subaru but isnt it worth it? $700 is a bargain here in Montana for one of these little tanks. Comes with two sets of tires on wheels. Might be a fun one to throw some Outback struts on.
  14. It does seem like it leaks more when its full. But also when it isnt all the way full, just not as much.
