  1. So I took a gamble with the Monroe's and that part number is wrong for a 1980 brat. Needs the shaft mount and not the ears type. Dang it all anyway. Just tout I would roll the dice. FYI to anyone else on the Monroe 4915 and gen 1 brats.

    79 brat

Wow, at first I thought it was this one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/140718462069?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 Must have been trying to duplicate it?! Either way she is a beauty!
  3. Roll bar is going to make that pop!!! Nice job.
  4. WOW! Um, bringing the mustache from Colorado, US might be a problem, lol. Thanks for the offer though.
  5. Thinking of just reusing the old ones. I didn't even consider replacements as far as mounts and bearings go. hmmmm.
  6. Didn't get back to you Nico, it was a busy Friday. But I am headed back to Hamilton/Burlington in middle August so possibly then I could bug ya to see it. On your mustache bushings were they hard to get out? I got the new bushings but haven't looked at the mustache yet. I am betting a 32 year old Brat will have rusted bushings. Any tips on that - sorry to take away from your thread with my questions.
  7. So those KYB's were direct replacements then. That is good news. I am gonna have to snag a set for my Brat now, lol. Thanks for sharing all the info for us.
  8. Looking good! I need to get off my butt and do exactly what you have done to the bed. My only issue us canned liners. They do exactly what is shown - areas of too much liner build up in areas. But you can't complain cause it is cheap. Thanks for sharing all you are doing.
  9. Pull the shifter boot and you will see that the issue is not the bushing but the shifter itself. I tried to tighten the bushing but learned it is the shifter rod moving back and forth left to right.
  10. I'm running 205's on an '80 Brat. They aren't that big.
  11. So I have two questions. 1. How did you get the mustache bushings out of the mustache? 2. Where are you in Hamilton? I am ironically in Burlington right now and odd as it sounds I would love to see this?
  12. Make model and hub adapter part numbers please. That looks awesome.
  13. More info on switch please? Where did ya get it and was it easy to install? My fan is wired directly to a "hot" source so it is always on. Need to fix that.
  14. Still though, no one responds......... I am sure this has been addressed. Please let us others know what we can remove as we are learning.
  15. Well, it is a Gen 1 Brat?! You gotta expect that from a sardine can powered by a hamster wheel. But I do relate as I feel cramped in mine too. I kind of like it.
  16. Lookin good! What paint code is that by chance?
  17. Were those the Monroe shocks we talked about in PM? What KYB part number did you use for the front struts? I also found a link to the rebuild for the '80 Carb.
  18. Wouldn't that be about the same cost as a Weber though? Wouldn't I just want to go with a Weber anyway at that point?
  19. As I am learning more and more about the Brat I love so much, I am finding that a lot of you are taking off carb emissions junk from these gen 1 vehicles. Again, I am learning but when I look at the carb I see miles of that "junk" and nowhere to begin. What can I safely take off and what is needed? I hear of people blocking off PCV valves and removing the backfire valve, etc.. What can I safely remove from my carb setup on my Gen 1 Brat? What is needed to make a manual choke? Other than buying a Weber what can be done to the Hitachi to make her run better? Searching is good, I know, but I cannot seem to find definitive answers. I am about to rip out the entire engine and want to re-seal all of her minus the bottom end, do the clutch, then rebuild the stock carb. I have been told cracking the engine on these EA71's is rarely needed. Thanks. Jon
  20. C-Springs here and welcome to a great forum!!!
