  1. Found an article on Torque Bind. There were two Scenerios. One was rear differential and caused Shuddering. The other was the mid diferential for the front drive and Symtoms are what I have. It's called Clutch pack Bind. UHH! That's not a fuse. I wanted a fuse! Some electronic Gizmo. Not crawling around under the car! Oh Well... Thanks for the term (Torque Bind) Steve. Sure helped make my search a lot easier.. P
  2. AWD , 4WD Not the Same thing. Of course it's always in. Thanks for the observation tho
  3. Hey Guys, I know the AWD is supposed to Kick in when I need it, But this thing is in 4 Wheel Drive Hard . Tires squawk (and jumpy) in tight slow turn. Drive train is being stressed out. lots of tension released when you stop and put it in neutral. Is there a fuse or switch or something that goes bad to cause this or is it a tranny thing? Clutches or what not. Anyone had this happen before that knows how to fix it? Thanks, P
  4. Just talked to friend how is the service manager at arundel ford. First thing he told me is I should have driven the car more than a couple of miles. I'm going to go back and see if it's still there. Here is something he told me that might help you too. When the transmission shudders, it is very often due to the clutches getting glazed and this is very common with cars that old ladies or people that drive like old ladies have. The first thing they do is flush the transmission and then they use an anti shudder additive that cleans the glaze off the clutches. He say's this most time fixes the problem and should be the first step for any reputable outfit before they tell you that you need a tear down or rebuild. Just thought this might be of value to you. I've had a few american automatics (GM turbo 350's) and if you don't know already, they are a bunch of thin disks that stack up (just like a motorcycle clutch) Thanks for your reply, it prompted my Call to my freind. Good luck with your Saturn. I have to go look at the car again if it's still there. PC
  5. Thanks for answering my first post ever. Sorry, I forgot to mention this ones an automatic. It does it under excelleration no matter what gear. Could be a mount I suppose. It's really a hard one to explain. Like the transmission stumbles. If you step on the gas just right, (I got it to do this in 1st gear) it's like a rumbling sound. In my small mind I'm thinking maybe it doesn't know whether to be in AWD or not. I'm also wondering if there is a switch or relay that goes bad and causes this, or is this what happens when a tranny is crapping out for good. The thing that's bummin me is that where I live the small car dealers, especialy the ones that know Subarus gobble these cars up when they're cheap. and sell them for book. I heard a tranny rebuild runs about $1000 for one of these cars. PC
  6. Not sure if I'm posting correctly (I'm new here) But you may have hit on it yourself. Sounds like brake pads. Brakes have those little chirpers on them and they usually stop making noise when you turn and when you aply the brakes. this is because the pads are a little loose when your not stepping on the brake. You can't always tell the condition by looking at the outer pad. The inner pads on the piston side are the ones that take a beating. you may have already checked this out but if not it's a place to start. PC
  7. Hi, I'm a Gen one 1989 GL owner and that car I know like the back of my hand but I tried out a 96 legacy today. Car looked and ran in neutral beautiful. Old lady owns it. (Really) When I test drove it the car kind of shuddered or bucked in all gears under medium and hard Excelleration. Anyone know of a problem where the transmission bucks under excelleration? Could this be the all wheel drive kicking in and out? Is this a common thing with an easy fix? The car has 140.000 mi on it. I could have bought it for 3 G's but that scared me off.
