  1. I have a 2005 Forester with manual gear shift and mine is very smooth and easy. Its a two finger job to change gear so if yours is so much harder then there is something wrong.
  2. AWD and Hi/Lo ratio still available in Europe on the Forester. I know as I have recently brought one.
  3. No the anti rattle clips are in place and they have not filed any thing down as yet. Certainly there appears to be some play on the slide pins.
  4. I have a 2004 2.ltr Forester which I am very pleased about with the exception of a rattle on the front calipers. The dealer initially told me that the wrong grease had been used on the caliper slide pins, and I watched them replace the grease and all was well for abour 2000 miles when the rattle started again. The dealer is now telling me that Subaru have stoped using the damper pin on the caliper (which appears to be the top slide pin which has a rubber ring about half way along it) which is causing the problem. However they are not prepared to replace my pin with the damper version unless Subaru tell them to do so which they are not, as aparently my vehicle and a few others are isolated cases. Has any one else come across this problem?
  5. I brought my first Forester last September since when I have covered some 5500 miles. Recently I started to hear a loud rattle from the front end on uneven ground. The dealer tell me it is the front caliper pins which instead of being lubricated with grease are only oiled which is causing the problem. I believe they are correct as if I touch the brakes when the rattle is preesent it stops. They are going to sort it tomorrow. My question is has any one else had this problem, and is it as simple to fix as just adding a bit of grease? The dealer tells me that this is only the second case of this they have had. Funny enough both on the same day!!
  6. Bad Luck. Happened to me some years ago. Dont know about the seat belts but you want to check behind the bumper as it is possible that it deformed enough to take up some of the shock but in doing so has caused damage to the panels behind. If you have a tow bar this may also have deformed the chassis rails underneath.Glad you were not hurt.
  7. I have recently brought a new Forester and the deflectors you mention are standard add on items for it in the uk and are available from main dealers and cost about £80 uk. I dont have the catalogue at present otherwise I would give you the part number. My point is that if they are available for the Forester then they are more than likley available for your car as well.
  8. This may not be a lot of help to you but I have a 2004 2ltr manual transmission Forester and I can get between 32 to 38 mpg depending on how I drive. 24 sounds very low to me. A friend has a 2.5 auto legacy and he says he gets an average of 31 mpg.
  9. Thanks that confirms what I thought and what the manual hints at but does not say. With all the rain we have had in the last few days I will have need of it soon.
  10. Its definately a high/low ratio with its own lever beside the handbrake, but thanks any way.
  11. Its comforting to know that we have something you guys dont, but its little use if I cant find out how to work it. Thanks any way.
  12. This is my first Subaru Forester. The handbook is less than informative about the low ratio sugesting that when starting on a hill with a loaded trailer low ratio should be enguaged. However it does not tell you whether a move to high ratio can be made on the move and at what speed. Subaru dealer is no help and Subaru UK decline to answer my e-mails. Does any one have any information on this please. Having only just got it I dont realy want to bugger it up.
  13. I have just brought my first Subaru Forester and although i have only had it a week I am very pleased with it. I live in the UK and am told that a workshop manule is not available over here for the vehicle. Can any one give me any idea where I may be able to get one from.
