  1. hey all, I have an 86 gl 3dr cp with carb and and 89 somewhat wrecked 89 3dr cp. I would am trying to get the 86 on the road and would like to put the fuel inj. on the 86. what parts and or modifications need to be done. the 86 has 97,000 and the 89 has 190,000 on the odometer. the 89 runs beautifully when it starts, just have to push it and dump the clutch, electrical gremlins, aka squirrels. thanks for any and all input anybody has. dennis
  2. Hey everybody, A while back front drivers side had and impact and bent the control arm and leading rod. trip to the boneyard and replaced both, straightened the sway bar brackets, had an alignment done and still having problems. Can't keep tires on it. they wear out in about 500 miles. car feels like you're driving on ice going straight (alomost trecherous when the roads are wet or muddy and don't even think of driving in the snow) but turns fine either direction slight pull to the right. tires wear severely on the outside edges. I've done a search and it seems I probably have a caster/camber problem more than a toe-in/out problem. any thoughts or insight would be greatly appriciated. thank, dennis
  3. just picked up an 86 3dr cpe w/ the ea-82, carbed. got it home changed the oil, plugs, and put some carb cleaner in the tank. before, it would start, idle rough then smooth out. now, starts up and idles at about 3 grand. thought the throttle was stuck but nope, bottomed out against something on the side of the carb with a diaphragm in it (i think)(passenger side). new to the carb scene on the ea-82, my 89 has fi and works great. any ideas and thoughts are most appreciated. thanks, dennis
  4. sorry man, it was just there hanging and I had to jump at it. wish I could help you out. dennis
  5. going around a blind corner and having a guy parked in the middle of the icy road has done some really fantastic body work to the fender, door, and quarterpanel of my 89 3dr cp. A new fender from the scrap yard and a door on it''s way from Craven in Michigan and I'll be ready to rock.
  6. so far it's "the project", my wife calls it "get that POS running or get it out of the driveway!" and she says it smells bad. BUT I love it.
  7. question...i found an 88 gl on the internet and the guy is calling it a hatch. i know they made an 87 gl hatchback and the 3 dr coupe. is it the same with 88 then they dropped the hatch in 89? having a hard time getting the guy to email me back with my questions so i'm trying to do a little research and the 88 image gallery on the site has no images. sooo...any feedback is appreciated.
  8. I found a 88 gl-10 for sale with 102,000 on the odometer. the guy says he has to get $550 for it. test drove it, usual lifter tick from under the hood, lots of power, brakes a little stale when stopping. So mechanically I say its ok. body wise...really rough, he has foil tape around the winshield and all over the body to plug the holes. hasn't been inspected in pa since 2-04. asking the board, is it worth it or wait for a better one to come along. I wrecked my 89 3 dr so I'm looking for another set of economic wheels. thanks
  9. cougar, thanks that seemed to be the problem, I made a jumper wire and grounded to the strut tower ground. turned all acc. on and volt meter never dropped below 12. even when i turned the driving lights on. awsome thanks, thanks, thanks!!!
  10. thanks guys, i checked the connections, clean. checked the voltage to the fuse box... getting 13.6. checked the fusable links getting 14.2 on both sides. w/ the engine running i unplugged the wiper motor and checked that and got 13.6 there. but when i turn the lights on wipers, fan i get a visable drop on the dash lights and i also have driving lights i installed, when i turn those on the radio turns off for just a sec then turns back on and the lights dim as well. the only thing i didn't check was the power relay, don't know where it is. maybe that's the problem? still perplexed
  11. Hi, brand new to the site so taking the time to say what a great board full of useful info. bought a 89 gl a year ago for 300 bucks and with new timing belts, water pump, radiator, brake cylinder, and winshield have a very dependable car, all said about $800 wrapped up into it and it passed PA inspection with flying colors. anywho, my problem. jumped in to go somewhere and the battery was dead. jump started it and checked the voltmeter and it read about 10 volts. put the multimeter on the battery posts and got 12.5 volts. turned the car off and got 11.?? something on the battery. checked the cells on the battery and one was low on water, filled it and charged. same thing. put new battery in. now i get 14.5 volts at the battery but at idle i get 12 on the meter in the dash. turn the lights, wipers, fan on and drops to about 9 but still have 14.5 at the battery? at night lights dim and then all of a sudden get bright then slowly dim etc... any ideas what is going on? alt bad? bad wire to the fuse block? I'm stumped. any help would be appreciated. thanks
